Mad hot

Feb 27 2006

The new Ghostface album “Fishscale” is set to drop on March 14th. With production credits from among others: MF Doom, J-Dilla (RIP) and Pete Rock, it looks like this is gonna be awesome. Just look at that cover (not the real one but still)! Several tracks have leaked already, check out your favorite mp3 blogs for the songs.

I Love Baile FunkNew York stand up! We thought it was time to bring some funk to you. So we contacted DJ Sujinho and Cassiano (from the clothing line and a record label nossadesign.com) that hooked us up with a preview of their new mixtape.

This is how they described the mix themselves:

This mix is a special pre-release excerpt from our upcoming full length mixtape I Love Baile Funk Volume 2. We’ve packed so much funk into it, that its gets tough to run through the reasons for every song, but here’s a bit of what was going on in our heads. Sufficed to say, we really love baile funk!

Sweet Dreams / Ai Voce Gosta – DJ Cassiano feat Zuzuca Pondarosa
Timbo was on the train platform in Brooklyn and called Cassiano buggin, like “yo Sweet Dreams man!” By the time he got to the city, Ca had already layed the beat crazy.

We brought our girl Zuzuca Ponderosa in to the studio and she had these ill lyrics written on a little scrap of paper. She is saying “First you scream, then you cry, then you like it.” Oh yeahhh, you like it! This is available on our EP Nossa Presents: Brazilian Baile Funk Blends, pressed exclusively on vinyl.

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun – Nao Vai Me Deixar
We came up on this crazy acapella of two dudes singing terribly off key in Portuguese to Cyndi Lauper’s melody. Like so bad it was good. Sujinho ramped up the kick and brought in that sick breakdown from the original and boom! Another banger.

Minha Faccao – Mr Catra
Mr Catra is the king of baile funk for a reason. Here is the reason.

Luzes da Favela – Cidinho e Doca
Listen to the voice here. Baile funk is so close to roots reggae sometimes that it’s not even funny. The shit is beautiful but he’s saying that when the lights go out in the favela, punk mufuckas better run!

Vou Catucar – MC Marcinho
The smoothest funk of them all. This is strictly for the ladies.

Electro Dip – Dj Sujinho
This one is some special gumbo from Sujinho. Little Computer People plus hard funks for the dance floor. You should see the crowd bounce when the Dip Set drops! Like “Oh shit, who let NY in this bitch?” The party gets extra krunk, extra quick!

If you notice there is that sound from Windows Explorer in there every so often… that’s a shout out to our IT guy, Cassiano’s brother Daniel! This is also available on our EP.

I Love Baile Funk Volume 2 and Brazilian Baile Funk Blends will be available starting March 1 at Turntable Lab and other fine music retailers. If you can’t find it, ask for it!

Don’t forget to hit up www.nossadesign.com for your official “I Love Baile Funk” t-shirt. This mix is again dedicated to todos os funkeiros do mundo. Valeu!

Live?

Feb 21 2006

The Knife, a group that to this date have never played live, has decided to forego this principle and they will do 3 shows in Sweden (Stockholm, Gothenburg and Lund) later this spring, shows in London, Paris and Berlin are planned, more info will be announced later. The shows will be “an audio visual experience” with projections, visuals etc. by Andreas Nilsson (who directed their musicvideos for “Heartbeats” and “Silent shout”).
