Kuduro

This year’s baile funk, kuduro, is spreading fast across the blogosphere. Born in the old portuguese colony of Angola, kuduro is uptempo, energetic and can be described as baile funk goes techno mixed up with grime and ragga. It features rapping/singing in portuguese. As always, our man Paul Devro knew about this months ago and provided us with this track. For more kuduro, go to Fat Planet or Fluokids.

I’m always a little wary of these cooler-than-cool niche subgenres (B’more club, grime, Baile Funk etc.) but I can’t front, this is f-cking HOT!!!

Hi Martin,
You should really check Buraka Som Sistema - check their myspace page at myspace.com/burakasomsistema.
They are a recently formed portuguese act and they are doing with kuduro what Diplo was doing with baile funk.
Kuduro wasn’t a well “respected” type of music here in Portugal and was an easy target to make fun at. Buraka Som Sistema are now turning it into something hip. Their live shows are *the* place to be on the Lisbon night scene.
