Goodie bag

Ah, things have been a bit slow over here at Discobelle HQ. Lots of good music coming out but no energy to actually post. I started working on my thesis yesterday, Björn just got back from Hong Kong and besides going back to work he’s moved to a new apartment and Niklas is busy with his job along with spending quality time with his kid. Anyway, just to let you know we’re still around, here’s a goodie bag.

First off is a mixtape that Justice apparently gave out before their first UK dates, recorded live at The Rex Club in Paris on April 14th back in 2005 (Thanks to Nathan), second we’ve got another remix of our girl Cassie’s track “Me and you” done by french rapper Booba (thanks to Glamorama), third is another Justice related track: Crimp Yr Hair from Philly sent us their – a bit more club friendly – remix of “Phantom” and we dig it. To top it all off, another find from our boy Diplo on one his many trips around South America. Cumbia is folk music that originates from the northern part of Colombia, but has spread to Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Mexico etc. Apparently, this is all over the place and it’s also beginning to mutate into cumbia tracks influenced by electro, techno, hip hop, dancehall etc. This track was screwed and chopped into an eerie and haunting piece of music. It’s scary as hell. Enjoy!

What is going on with Discobelle?!? Ever hear of quality control, guys?

That Phantom remix is terrible…simple loops of small segments of the original with a boring, flat sounding beat underneath? Wow. And the Cumbia thing sucks even worse…is this a joke? It sounds like something a 13 year old screwing around on simple music editing program made…maybe it is.

Come on, guys…This stuff is very weak music with big hype names attached to it. Does that somehow make it “good”?

    Brutal.

This blog used to be so much better…STOP THE MADNESS!!

Brian: No, the hype names doesn’t automatically make it good, but it could still be interesting which is the case with the cumbia song. If you don’t like the songs, don’t listen to them. If you can do better, do so and we’ll put it up here.

in case you’re amused by this cumbia stuff, or want to try something new, or simply like something that sounds raw on a huge soundsystem, I just did a post on Punta music from the north of Honduras
