Pocketknife mega post

We’ve got a little bit of a treat for you today. Four brand spankin’ new remixes from our buddy Pocketknife. The r ‘n b singstress Alica Keys sees Scooby messing around with her track “No One” and going all housey on it and then “She’s The Star” from disco legend Arthur Russell gets an update (props to Panda Toes, taken from the Flagrant Fowl release, “Tougher Than Featherz”). Then Scooby dug up his X-mas banger “Linus and Lucy” from last year and did a little touch up and finally we have a beautiful “Spanish Psych gypsy” remix of the Kenneth Bager track “Les Fleur” (official remix that came out on a multi-disc Music For Dreams promo. It features Clint Brewer on upright bass and Shelly Bauer on bassoon).

Game, set and match to Mr Pocketknife!

Thanks for posting these tracks, dudes!

Note: the Alicia remix instrumentation is a midi file. There’s no way that it could be off key.

do you guys ever consider that YOU might be hearing it wrong?

    LOL

    funny shit!

  • Jo says:

    November 24, 2007 at 06:22

See what I mean folks, he backs himself up by saying the midi file says it aint so. tsk tsk. So fucking what, is the acapella a midi file too? LOL, hack.

To end this inane debate, here is what I did just for Jo. I went back into Reason and changed the midi instrument back to piano instead of the synth I used. I then layered the midi file track over the original and then whadya know? They are in the same key! I didn’t even transpose the midi file at all to prove our Jo wrong. Listen to a short clip here:

Who knew I’d get to post one more thing on discobelle this week? Thanks, Jo!

    Jo,
you got some fucked up ears. The Alicia Keys mix is real nice.
Y’all should be thankful to get a break from bloghouse and blogmore.

  • Jo says:

    November 24, 2007 at 20:32

The vocal and the original song (the second post you made) starts in the key of E. Your remix starts on the key of B. (And I don’t need a program to tell me that, it’s called perfect pitch, some are born with it).

Pocket, you’re assuming that when you layer the midi file, it will automatically be in key. Somewhere in Reason you’re messing up the key. That’s the problem you’re not listening to the music. Key of B and E are different lol.

So, Pop Rawkus, Pocket, Cole, “MY” ears are fucked up? LOL you guys are EMBARRASING yourselves. You call yourselves producers? Stick to the holla board where like minded tone deafs give each other pats on the back. No more free advice man, Pop Rawkus you should be thankful of MY advice fool, which is get a new hobby. Hacks exposed! You know you’re a hack, you can’t fool everyone.

so says the active hollerboard member. i bet its roctakon

  • Pop Rawkus says:

    November 24, 2007 at 22:19

I’m not playing it like I’m some grand producer. I’m happy if five people tell me my shit’s alright for the limited time I put into it.

The Alicia Keys mix is dope, more people like it than don’t. You’ve obviously got some bone to hack, you “hacK.” If you dont like something, say it and leave it at that. No reason to embarass yourself by trying to talk shit to a whole group of people.

  • Cousin Cole says:

    November 25, 2007 at 03:17

not entertaining enough to be roctakon…. whatever

  • greg garie says:

    November 25, 2007 at 09:51

the track is kind of cool in it’s own way but for you to say it’s not off key is sort of embarassing. listen to it. it’s off fucking key.

this whole music scene is tiresome. barf.

  • Pop Rawkus says:

    November 25, 2007 at 09:54

Okay, as a really non-music person, I dont know if its out of key.
Regardless, the spaciness of the beat couple with Key’s lyrics make this shit an out of control mix. Even if it is out of key (which I’m not sure), shit still sounds really nice together. Key doesnt really mater as Emynd’s Sensi/Presidential blend proves.
Greg-go to sleep if you’re tired, come back in a year, it’ll all be fresh then, promise.

  • greg garie says:

    November 25, 2007 at 19:24

um, haha? i’m looking forward to that freshness! until then, have fun with your bmoreoclash clowntronix slap-on-some-filters-and-a-drum-loop pasty nerd barf music scene. you know, the one made up of eight untalented nerds sucking off each others “productions”, their trendhumping hipster boyfriends, a few random decently-hot girls who were somehow swindled into thinking that bad club music is a “movement”, and hilarious 35-year-old failure dj’s/message board moderators.

i loved ghostrider the remix really developed this menace. unsure about this alicia keys shiz…

i’m not really a great fan anyway…i liked thug or gangster loving or whatever it was, she had great acid wash jeans on in the clip if i remember correctly

i’m not sure why but i found the sheer fact that this was an argument over the key on a keys track amusing.

now let’s start the most inane argument of all over controversy!…
do we pronounce it ‘contro-versy’ or ‘controversy’?
(for some odd reason it divided most US and UK citizens about a decade ago, sweeping generalisation there (no i don’t know ‘most US and UK citizens’ but for the sake of a good inane argument…) people now seem to be tilting towards taking a breath, as you would in ‘contraception’.
but i’m a supporter of placing the emphasis at the end of the v. not so much at the start. not that that would cause any controversy or whatever…

it could start an inane argument though :)

i think it has more cred. sounds more ‘russian’ ‘petrov’ like. the other one sounds idiotic or american, but is probably more correct in latin or whichever language the word was derived from.

    peace

All of the links I’ve found are broken, is there anywhere I can buy the Vince Guaraldi “Linus and Lucy (Pocketknife’s Hark, the Holler Remix) track? I LOVED it and also would like to know if there are any more Vince Guaraldi remixes.
