Zulu House Is The New School!

Zulu House is the new movement brought to you from the gutters of London. This is gonna blow your hat of.

We let Nathaniel from ZDS do the introduction:

“For those that have been keeping a close eye and ear on us recently, you may have noticed we penned a new genre in Zulu House. We did it first and we do it best. We thought you might be interested in the following mix which acts as a definition of ZULU. Its quite straightforward but for those still a little unsure…

Zulu is banging on drums. Zulu is congas and cowbells. Zulu is a relentless kick drum. Zulu is rhythm. Zulu is jacking til you sweat. Zulu is old and new. Zulu is Get Rude. Zulu is a feeling. Zulu is that low down wobble you sometimes feel. Zulu is a familiar feeling. Zulu is fresh. Zulu is bass. Zulu is bigger than you and its totally okay to feel a little intimidated right now.”

Its like minimal with a cowbell.

    Time to take a nap..

I feel like Zulu house should have lots more freshwater bass

  • nick the duke says:

    May 9, 2008 at 22:43

    jeez…

why is it that white people always have to capitalize on black music?

    hahaha i’m kidding… always a pleasure, guys.

  • The HAMBURGLER says:

    May 9, 2008 at 23:34

this is the stupidest thing I’ve heard in a long time. It’s been around forever and it’s just called tech-house. Some dudes who just realized they can’t play a mix full of dubsided releases anymore and decided to delve deeper does not a genre make.

    it’s bigger than you.

  • non-hater says:

    May 10, 2008 at 00:58

the hamburgler has got a small willy. simple as that.

  • Tony Scott says:

    May 10, 2008 at 09:37

Yep, tech house and a bit of miminal. The hamburgler is right.

Zooloo house, hype yourself a genre, ZDS arr marketing boiz.

    Church

  • lucas says:

    May 10, 2008 at 11:33

aside from being shrewd marketing ‘boiz’ zds are also playing more gigs and making more music than you ever will.

how about trying to move things forward as opposed to bitching about stuff that maybe you feel slightly jealous about.

    catch up boys.

  • The REAL Lucas (ZDS) says:

    May 10, 2008 at 13:37

Ummmm, thanks for the support ‘lucas’…..and while I might agree with some of your points……………

The term Zulu is simply a name that allows us to group all of this similar sounding stuff into one neat ‘genre’, and yes, it does include Minimal, Fidget, Tech House and a whole lot more. No one is claiming to have invented the wheel here, but simply present something in a way that some people might feel is a little more accessible.

Geez, if you like it you like it. If not then cool……its all just music.

And ‘Hamburgler’ re: the Dubsided comment = ouch, you know us too well…I will definitely be losing sleep over your insightful words. Maybe next time you will include your real name and we can judge YOU on YOUR merits.

    Enjoy the music kids.

  • Senn says:

    May 13, 2008 at 09:19

It’s just minimal, was expecting something like kuduro style….

good thing I like minimal , perfect for work :)

  • Senn says:

    May 13, 2008 at 09:35

    ok there’s tribal house too

  • Todd says:

    May 13, 2008 at 19:15

I’m not a hater and happy to let anyone do their thing, but I kind of thought minimal had had its day? Anyway, this doesn’t seem super different than other minimal stuff. On the other hand there is a lot of super interseting innovation happening in the real african/portuguese world of funana, coupe decale, kuduro, Kizomba. I suggest you rock over to this forum below, take a guess at what the portuguese means, get yourself a free account and start downloading. And come check out our Manifesto african party in London.
