El Hijo de la Cumbia

I have tried to get a Mixin’ It Up from El Hijo de la Cumbia a while now but since I don’t speak Spanish and he don’t speak English it has been some confusing mail sent to each other using bable fish to translate. At last I have got a mix from him and even if it is not an exclusive Mixin’ It Up it, I don’t think many of you have heard it yet since it only been up on his blog a couple of days.

If there is ever going to be an El Hijo de la Cumbia Mixin It Up? I don’t know, I will keep trying.

Salem – Brustreet

Patrick North (from SLU fame) hooked us up with this gem. SALEM will be the debut on his brand new label Acephale The record is due to be finished up in a few weeks and it’s pretty much already sold out. The sound is kind of hard to describe but here is Patricks attempt: “there is a huge gothy shoegaze thing going on but they also incoroporate elements of southern rap, juke and screw. Comparable bands are The Knife, Chromatics, Burial, Cocteau Twins etc etc.”

This is their interpretation of Bruce Springsteen’s “Streets of Philadelphia” – it’s entitled “Brustreet”. An eerie and hauntingly beautiful version.

Jay Sean – Stay (Boy Better Know Remix)

I have been waiting for a better version of this, but enough is enough.

Rockin Wit Da Goat

I have been a LL fan since way back and stuck by him even when his shit wasn’t that great (remember Phenomenon?). So now that he is back with a new album “Exit 13″, I’m excited again. I’m hoping for a new “Jingling Baby”, “Big Ole Butt”, “Doin’ It” or a “Mama Said Knock You Out”. The first single from the new album sounds good but maybe not that good.

Frankie Knuckles – Pig Radio mix

It’s Midsummer here in Sweden today, and those of us not hanging out at Sonar are getting ready to eat some herring and drink some snaps. But before we get all rowdy we just had to post this. Our Italian homies at Pig Mag/Pig Radio just gave out this pretty much all awesome mix done by the godfather of housemusic, Frankie Knuckles. We’ll be jamming this for weeks!

The Whip – Shinichi Osawa remix

Glitchy electro goodness in the form of a remix by noted Japanese producer/remixer Shinichi Osawa of the latest single “Blackout” from Manchester based dance/rock group The Whip (the single will drop on July 14th on Southern Fried Records and features a slew of other remixes).

Kool DJ Dust

We just received the track “The Quest” from Kool DJ Dust. He is originally one third of Swedish electrooutfit Hundarna Från Söder (also part of the Stockholm dj crew Serious Party) but will release his debut solo effort “The Disco Opera” on August 27th. He samples and pieces together obscure bits of material into smoothed out and funky disco tracks. DJ-support comes from the likes of Erol Alkan, Aeroplane, Todd Terje, Prins Thomas, Tensnake, Skull Juice, Jaques Renault, Lindström, Hunee, Rune Lindbaek etc. Definetely something for you to check out!

Wolf & Cub – Bumblebeez remix

We received an e-mail with this Australian collaboration. We haven’t heard of the rockers in Wolf & Cub before but we sure have heard of party/electropopsters Bumblebeez or more notably the remixes of their single “Dr Love” (the Crookers one is killer). Here, the Bumblebeez take on some remixing duties of their own with a take on the new Wolf & Cub single “One To The Other”.
