Flosstradamus mix

No real Mixin’ It Up today but the peeps over at Mad Decent dropped a podcast/mix filled with early Chicago house/ghetto tech etc from one of our favorite dj duos, Flosstradamus. Here’s an excerpt from the blog post:

“Curt from Flosstradamus here. Just giving you the low down on this podcast. The boy Diplo asked us to do a Dancemania pod cast. If you don’t know about it Dancemania is a label out of Chicago that started in the mid 80’s with some pretty known anthems and artists. It wasn’t till the early 90’s when the more known names such as: DJ Funk, Paul Johnson, DJ Deeon, etc. were putting out heaters on DM, with ghetto and disco sounds. Within a few years the label put out more songs than you could download in one day off of hype machine. By 2001 they put out the DM 300 12″!! Over 300 songs on a single independent label out of Chicago! Pretty cool if ya ask me? That being said we had to choose from a nice handful of songs for a 30 minute mix. Also, the original approach for this mix tape was “ghetto house” also known as juke, ghetto tech, jit, among others. So we tried to merge a few of our favorite (I’m sure you have a handful too) Dancemania “Ghetto House” tunes with some new & exclusive Ghetto House tunes of today. I hope you like the lil mix we whipped up.”

Who’s Afraid Of Rio?

Daniel Haaksman who is the head honcho of Berlin based label Man Recordings just released an EP of his own. It’s called “Who’s Afraid Of Rio?” and the title track features the vocal offerings of MC Jennifer and some sharp stabbing synth action along with a rolling baile funk groove that’s gonna make the dancefloor sweat floods.

Romanthony – Curious (Treasure Fingers remix)

Yeah, we know Aleks Discodust AKA finder of all amazing unknown gems already posted this but we just got the go ahead so here you go.

This is a new track called “Curious” from American house producer/dj Romanthony (who is the voice of the Daft Punk classics “One More Time” and “Too Long”. He is also the owner of Black Male Records and creator of house/dance classics such as “Bring U Up”, “Let Me Show You love” & “The Wanderer”). This remix from Treasure Fingers (yeah, the guy that’s blowing up worldwide with that “Cross The Dancefloor” track) is a synth banger that features some vocoder laced housestyle vocals + handclaps and one funky drive in order to get the party going.

Purple Crush in Malmö

Just had to do this post about a mega party that the fine people in Swim Fast are throwing tomorrow night at Debaser here in Malmö. The night will feature performances from Brooklyn blog favorites in the electro/hip hop/dance/80′s/booty duo Purple Crush, Swedish technopop connoisseurs The Field + more bands and a ton of local dj’s. If you’re in the area, this is a must visit.

This track “Go Digital” is a storming updated 80′s disco track that sees Purple Crush team up with rising NYC rapper Leif. Check out the new Purple Crush album “Blog Party” that was just released.

Toronto tag team Nacho Lovers with a splendid acid house mix that they recently did for The Fader.

“Here is a mini mix of some acid house tracks we love. A few classics, a few lesser known or under-appreciated gems, and a few great acid tracks that aren’t 10+ years old.”

All we can say is Discobelle hearts Nacho Lovers.

Like Woah – OSOF

Today marks the release of the second EP from Sydney electro/house duo Like Woah. It’s entitled “Raw/War” and it’s the 10th release on Bang Gang 12 Inches.

The track “OSOF” sees them move into another direction, it’s not quite as hard or party as their previous efforts. Instead with that tinny beat, slap bass sounds, mellow strings along with some crunchy bleeps and beats in the background, this seems more fitting for that opening set.

Let Them Dance

Why we didn’t post the Omar K track on Discobelle is a mystery. Now we are making up on that by posting an exclusive track from their upcoming “The Basta EP” that will be out September 2nd. The hype on the LA husband and wife duo Rainbow Arabia, who merge electro/synthpunk with a heavy world music influence, is big but sometimes you just have to give in and say if it’s good it’s good. I’m a fan!

Mash It Up

Our favorite german dj/producer, Shir Khan, once again comes correct with this bouncey remix of the track “Mash It Up” from London electroduo The Young Punx. This is destined to make the club go wild with its baile funk drums, sharp stabbing synths, blaring sirens and sweet breakdowns. The track is taken from the Japan/England vinyl release on MofoHiFi Records but you can also find it on Beatport.
