Awesome blog post, particularly the part about the new socio-musical phenomena going on in the northwest. I'm always interested in cultures and subcultures specially when music is part of the equation and this neohippie phenomena sounds quite unusual. To be honest, and correct me if I am wrong because I have never been to the northwest, I think this has been going on for a while. I used to have a hippie roommate while studying at Indiana University and he was really into goa trance back in 2000, he has recently taken a huge interest in dubstep and is now spinning it at hippie festivals all over the US.

As you may know goa trance is characterized by very trippy sounds as well as acid lines and intricate breakdowns so it is not surprising that hippies have found a new home in the wooble nest created by dubstep producers. After all dubstep, like goa trance, is also hypnotizing but has that reggae roots / ambient reference that hippies like so much.

All in all I am glad people are dancing all over the place North East South and West!

good job Claude!

thanks for explaining the 'hippie' phenomenon to the masses, a lot of people who are not from the west coast would have no idea of the strange vibe going on around this part of the woods. as one of my friends mentioned, it seems a curious coincidence that fick came out after skream played shambhala (another outdoor hippie rave) for the first time haha
