I Follow Rivers

“I Follow Rivers” is the second single off the new Lykke Li album “Wounded Rhymes” (drops February 28th) which will most definetely be one of the big pop albums of 2011. “I Follow Rivers” is a melancholic, almost bleak tune that shows us the darker side of Lykke Li.

Rizzla + D’HANA January “NU LIFE” Mix

Describing your party as “agressive, over-educated, banjee cvnt, urban underground pop music, queer global bass” is maybe the best possible combination of words that language can offer.

And the latest mix from Chub Rub resident DJs D’HANA and Rizzla doesn’t disappoint – it’s a jaw dropping onslaught of vogue snippets and global bass music, with everything from an exclusive re-edit of Girl Unit’s “Wut”, to a Moombahton edit of Guido’s “Mad Sax” to a whole bunch of material from Total Freedom, Kingdom and more. Serious vibes.

Beats In Space – Best Of 2010

Looks like this will be the last of the best of 2010 mixes that we’ll post, not because there aren’t plenty of mixes out there it’s just that Tim Sweeneys two part best of 2010 from his Beats In Space radio show is so damn amazing. If you like your dance music in the form of warm and wonderful disco/house then this is for you. (Thanks to Kajsa Haidl for the heads up)

Catz ‘n Dogz Petcast #18: KiNK

Catz ‘n Dogz are flying high right now. Their latest album on Mothership played around with sounds in such an original way that hearing Lil Jon’s vocals on a tech-house track didn’t even seem as weird as it is. And between giving away (wh stellar re-edits and heaps ‘pon heaps of free exclusives, you’d think that giving out a podcast series curated by their favorite artists might be a bit of overkill; kinda like eating your whole pillowcase full of Halloween candy all in one night.

But their 18th “petcast” by KiNK feels absolutely necessary, slowing things down and delving into the roots of house, techno and psychedelia while jumping seamlessly from genre to genre.

Tom Tom Club- Genius of Love (Senor Coconut Remix)

Remixing a song that the universe agrees is perfect is a pretty difficult thing to undertake, but Senor Coconut pulls it off pretty well.

Dirty South Joe – Best of Latin Underground 2010 Mix

This best of 2010 latin underground mix from Dirty South Joe (of the Mad Decent/Brick Bandits crews) was just posted over on Generation Bass (one of our favorite blogs) and it comes packed with a punch with brilliant execution and a tracklist that covers everything from moombahton to 3ball, nuevo cumbia, house etc.

“This set was recorded LIVE at the infamous PYT Philly restaurant & bar in Philadelphia, PA on Dec 26th 2010 for http://radsummer.com radio, as part of the Rad Summer “Best of 2010″ series. Some atmospheric moombahton, nuevo cumbia, 3ball, house, etc…I figured “Best of Latin Underground” was a vague enough yet apt description for the sound. It was also recorded the night Teena Marie (RIP) passed away :( so “Portuguese Love” is in there as well. :) Check out the exclusive 3ball MTY Tim Dolla remixes from Sheeqo Beat & DJ Otto!! Forthcoming on Cool Records in 2011!! Big up Flufftronix for the invitation as well as collaborating with me on some exciting projects this past year. Did I mention our new label, Cool Records?!!! Big up the godfather, Toy Selectah for his nonstop pursuit of musical innovation & nurturing the amazing Mexican underground sound & scene. Big up Dave Nada for creating Moombahton and giving DJs an entirely new BPM range to explore on the dancefloor, as well as being one of the most genuine and positive people I know. Last but not least, BIG UP the homies at http://generationbass.com for being the best music blog of 2010 and a constant source of inspiration. Do those dudes ever sleep??”

Love Thing

We’ve been following New York based producer/dj Eli Escobar for a couple of years now and he just dropped his brand new “Love Thing” remix EP on Plant Music which happens to feature some heavy remixes from top producers such as DJ Mehdi, Runaway, Mike Simonetti and John Selway. Eli himself also took a go and did his own amazing rework of the track, sexy pianodriven disco/house at its finest with some sax business thrown in to take the sexiness up a notch.
