Hold You Tight

Seclusive Berlin producer Daniel Steinberg is about to unleash his debut album “Shut Up” late January on Front Room Recordings (sublabel to Made To Play, both run by Jesse Rose) but he’s no newcomer seeing as he’s spent the last 15 years honing his trade and is well regarded amongst the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Richie Hawtin and Claude Von Stroke. On the track “Hold Tight” we get a 6 minute microcosmos of the productions offered on his debut album: warm, soulful and with a tropical feel that will have you strutting around on the dancefloor in mere seconds.

Syket – Let it Heal (Prins Thomas Diskomiks)

We’ve got a friday treat for all of you.

Swedish dreamy and spaced out psychpop outfit Syket just released a new single entitled “Let It Heal” today on Bengtsson & Wirfält (together with Baseline Music). On the single we find this fantastic disco remix from Norwegian producer/dj Prins Thomas that builds and builds until there’s nothing but ecstasy and euphory left.

BEST OF 10 (1)

2010 Finale

OK, the last two mixes to showcase 2010. We promise. First one out is the Smalltown DJ’s who are beginning to make this a tradition and by tradition we mean putting together banging mixes to showcase their tracks of the year.

“Alright folks – here it is. 2010 was a subliminally awesome year for music. We’ve been making these ‘Best of” mixes for three years now and its so fun to put together these tunes that didn’t usually get lots of club play by us or other djs, but got played a ton at other times over the year – hotels, house parties, airports, office time, wherever.”

The same tradition goes for Pandemonium Jones (of Caps & Jones) who made his third consecutive year end mix and this one is supposedly suited for: “It’s a great soundtrack for snowy dogwalking. Also suitable for sipping scotch to…”

Running Wild, Running Free

One of my favorite sites over the past three years has undoubtedly been the always great, often graphically offensive Molasuperpoco blog.

But in addition to churning out continually great vibes, Jared of MSP is also a resident DJ at Razz in Barcelona where he goes by the name “pffff”. I think is meant to sound like when you spit something out while in mid sip.

This mix he curated for Vice Spain is an anthology of “not-yet-recognized-as-classic-80′s-disco-rock” music, mostly lifted from soundtracks to films like 1984, Lady Beware, Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Mad Max 3, Cat’s Eye, Jumpin’ Jack Flash, Critters, and Dream to Believe. Also noteable is the fact that he’s “100% not interested in presenting this as irony”, an important thing to note these days. Give it a listen below, it’s excellent.

Spanish Teenager (Acid Washed Remix)

Casey Spooner’s multitasking power makes my head spin. Between a little project you’ve probably heard of called Fischerspooner, performance art works with New York ensemble The Wooster Group, and now an upcoming solo album on Molitor Records, he’s got the kind of work ethic that makes me hang my head in shame comparatively.

Today we’ve got an excellent Acid Washed remix of single “Spanish Teenager” that drenches the original in fuzzy sunshine. It feels anthemic in almost a Beach Boys kind of way, a bit of a departure from the darker stuff I’ve come to expect from older Fishcerspooner work. Grab the exclusive below and read an interview with Spooner that gives some insight into his solo production work over at Nowness.
