Renaissance Man – New Years Mix 2011

One of our favorite Finnish acts – Renaissance Man – brings us a fresh mix dedicated to the new year and to the newly formed alliance between Social Club and Maison Clothes in Paris, this is 50 minutes of techy goodness.

“Two-headed Hydra who speaks with one voice (and mixes with four hands), Renaissance Man was born in 2007 after Jaxxon and Downtown met in a Helsinki architecture agency. To them, house music then conjugate poetry of the right angle and that of the discoball: dancefloor becomes the hub of their obsessions. By streamlining musical rules to their most basic, they managed two “maxi-singles” (boosted by bombs “Spraycan” and “What is Guru”) that bring club music back to its essentials: fervor and functionality.”

PS. Check out the minimal and amazing remix they did for the upcoming Worthy release “Big Perm” on Discobelle Records, it starts about 10 minutes into the mix, will be released shortly…

oki-ni presents MOON by Andrew Weatherall

Andrew Weatherall should need no introduction, here’s a mix he recently made for UK clothing boutique oki-ni and their mix series.

“Andrew Weatherall takes us on a deep and moody journey through his vast record collection with dusted off electronica and ambient tracks, sitting alongside contemporary goth from Zola Jesus, lo-fi angst from Perfume Genius and finished off with Johanna Billing’s cover of Arthur Russell’s This Is How We Walk On The Moon. A perfect ‘headphones’ mix; this is in Mr Weatherall’s own words, ‘all killer no filler’ and we couldn’t agree more. Sit back and enjoy.”

Jon Giovanni – Take Off

Adam Port – Stalker

Our favorite Berlin dj, Adam Port, is back with a split release with KiNK on the Liebe Detail label which will be out on January 31st, the groovy and jazzhousey track “Stalker” will transport you to a speakeasy and then bring you back just in time for the party.

The Look

Montreal hybrid house producer Jacques Greene is one to watch out for in 2011, “The Look” is his debut EP that was released a few months ago by the good folks at Lucky Me and now we get the chance for a vinyl version. Glasgow based production prodigy Koreless gives the slick original version with that chopped up Brandy vocal sample a well defined shuffling pattern with a steady clicking melody.

Babe Rainbow – Samples

You probably remember Babe Rainbow as that charming hat enthusiast who saran wrapped his face and made a series of disturbing chopped & screwed edits this summer, forever adding a sinister side to Soulja Boy that just wasn’t there before.

Now, BC producer Cameron Reed has assembeled four tracks completely comprised of samples, which sounds like Three 6 Mafia playing keyboards at an abandoned church half the time, and what drowning must feel like the other half. All in all, it’s perfect music for getting lost in a snowstorm.

Bonus points if you can guess the samples in the comments.
