Ready For The World (XXXY Re-Edit)

You never really see a photograph of How To Dress Well’s Tom Krell unless it’s been taken in a dark room, or cascaded under dim lights. Considering that his debut album “Love Remains” is draped in an eerie spaciousness that evokes ambient r&b, suicide dreams and the sound of a static television channel buzzing in the other room, Manchester’s XXXY seems like a good partner to rework some of his material.

Following up on the oustandingly good “You Always Start It / Ordinary Things” EP on Ten Thousand Yen, XXXY creates a tune that makes you think of a depressed teenager wearing bootleg kicks from Korea leaning in the corner in the back of an empty club, nodding her head with eyes closed. Pitched vocals resonate around the fuzzy chords that fade and merge into each other, while some ghostly ambient voices pipe up in the background.

And if that doesn’t evoke enough heartache in you, also see How To Dress Well’s R. Kelly cover here, which talks about basement joints, nostalgia and losing someone you love.

Keep Me There – Atreides’ “Swag Numéro Deux” Edit

If you’re a fan of Nicolas Jaar’s instrumentally raw, low BPM style of dance music but also like hearing Soulja Boy over some fragmented soulful saxaphone… this is the edit for you.

Assembled by BC based swag pioneer Atreides, it’s a lighthearted but soulful jam for a Sunday afternoon. Speaking of other good things for the weekend, there’s a great interview at Dummy Mag with Jaar about his recent album.

Giana Factory – Dirty Snow (Trentemøller Remake)

Got the sweetest track in the email today with the Trentemøller Remake of Giana Factory‘s “Dirty Snow”. The girls in Giana Factory are about to go on showcase tour that will hit New York and SXSW. If you haven’t heard of the girls before. Loui Foo, the lead singer, is the sister of Sharin Foo, of the Raveonettes. (she also replaced her pregnant sister on The Raveonettes’ last tour). Their album is produced by Tomas Barford (Tartelet, Whomadewho, Tomboy & Fredski, Get Physical). Lisbet Fritze, the band’s guitarist, is Trentemøller’s tour guitarist. We could go on and go on. Taste the remix and go see them if you have the chance.

1984 – La Mecca EP

We’re excited to bring you the newest release on Discobelle Records from Italian producer 1984 (Andrea Normanno), the globally minded “La Mecca” EP. Sounding like the best street party (or riot) you’ve ever been to, it’s an unhinged celebration with huge cowbell, horn stabs, and drum heavy, globally percussive techno music. It’s intricate and focused but also feels like it’s ready to degenerate to pure sweaty dancefloor magic at any second.

Big things are happening on remix duties, where Toronto team Meati & Meech deliver a six minute spanning moment of heightening power horn power, leaving you feeling like you’re riding on the back of a rusted out hummer speeding through the desert, trying desperately not to fall off.

Arcs (one half of Sweat It Out! duo Act Yo! Age) get wavy with some distorted trumpets, and Misery Peat runs the track through a gauntlet of synth bleeps, turning it into a nightmarish level from some bootleg Super Mario Bros. game that’s only sold on the Bangladesh black market.

Finally, fellow up-and-coming Italian producer NT89 contributes a ecstatic pulsating laser blast of a track that’s been backed by Brodinski & Crookers. Like the sound of a flare gun exploding in the sky over the middle of the ocean, or someone swallowing their own tongue while staring at a strobe light, it quickly gets your attention and holds on tight.

1984 – Arabesque (NT89 Remix)

Show us some love and pick up the package on Beatport because we would really appreciate it.

Also, here’s a bonus guest mix from 1984, featuring some big room house thrills all around.

The song is produced by the Marc Kinchen aka MK and is definitely rooted in classic house that’s guaranteed to make you dance. Caravan/Watching You + Miami party

We just recieved an e-mail with two goodies from the Sound Pellegrino camp. A couple of weeks ago the French label released the new EP “Caravan/Watching You” from Swedish purveyors of bass and production genius duo known as Savage Skulls.

First out is the amazing Jacques Greene remix of “Caravan” which was included on the EP.

“Montreal prodigy Jacques Greene known for his releases on excellent labels Night Slugs and Luckyme, who is single-handedly buiding the proverbial bridge between true skool house aficionados and UK-obsessed garage heads, provided us with a fantastic 90’s sounding remix of “Caravan” in his signature groove, complete with funky stabs and vintage drum sounds.”

Savage Skulls – Caravan (Jacques Greene remix) (ge.tt)

Second, a brand new unreleased modern-baile-funk remix of “Caravan” by Rio de Janeiro based producer Leo Justi which was previewed on this week’s Sound Pellegrino podcast.

“Leo Justi likes it rough. 24 year old brazilian DJ and producer is a fan of the sexually-charged baile funk anthems that echo through his hometown of Rio de Janeiro. While his Hype Machine generation peers may think of Baile Funk as an occasional spice to remixes or as something Diplo once liked, Justi digs deep into the sound of Rio’s slums. These raw sounds serve as a basis to his music, while he adds dark atmospheres, chunks of different beat patterns and the occasional sonic joke to them. Justi has a broad musical influence, been an Ozzy fan, played guitar in rock and reggae bands, loves Super Cat and Chet Baker… his mixes, however, aim at only one thing: dancefloor frantic trance.”

Savage Skulls – Caravan (Leo Justi Heavy Baile mix) (ge.tt)
