Carli at Nikki Beach, Miami Music Week 2011

Meet Stockholm producer/dj Carli (½ of Savage Skulls), he ripped Miami to pieces with his dj-sets during the Ultra Music Week two weeks ago. Here’s a live recording of his set at Nikki Beach.

“DJ Carli of Savage Skulls on the set for Miami’s biggest indoor bikini jam. Security were tearing supporting Swedes from the DJ booth!”

Les Gillettes

Norman Palm – Images (Les Gillettes remix)

We haven’t heard much from the Finnish label New Judas in a while but now they come back strong with a new EP from Les Gillettes called “Carl Lewis/Ben Johnson”. The EP will be out on New Judas on April 26th.

Here is Les Gillettes remixing Normal Palm’s track “Images” from his “Shore to Shore” LP out worldwide thru City Slang.

What You Need

Berlin producer/dj Adam Port schools us on how it’s done down in Berlin Techno City, 4 to the floor is the lead word in this smooth and incredibly well done 8+ minute edit of the track “What You Need” from Toronto R&B outfit The Weeknd.

PS. Adam is playing right here in Malmö next week, if you’re here you should go dancing…

Det Vackra Livet – Viljan (Dan Lissvik remix)

One of our favorite Swedish producers – Dan Lissvik (of Studio fame) gives us this remix of the track “Viljan” by brother duo Det Vackra Livet (side project of The Mary Onettes) and is taken off their debut album that’s coming May 2. Dan Lissvik has carved out a niche with his shuffling rerubs and this is no exception sounding like some sort of haunting prog-balearic soundtrack to a drunken night that starts out in major but ends in minor.

Holy-Ghost-Wait-And-See

Wait And See

NYC duo Holy Ghost! are about to drop their self titled debut album (out April 12th on DFA) and it’s been a long time coming, it’s filled with shimmering and discolaced electropop at it’s finest which the track “Wait And See” is a perfect example of.

Pacheko – Kosmicare

Pacheko: Kosmicare EP (minimix) from Pacheko on Vimeo.

Venezulean producer Pacheko recently made a splash with his forthcoming track “Tuki Love” on Enchufadas “Hard Ass Sessions Vol. 5″ compilation but no rest for the wicked, this is a video minimix of his upcoming “Kosmicare EP” which will be released this month via Shockout/Tigerbeat6, expect house/uk funky sounds mixed up with a bassfilled party atmosphere of latin/kuduro.

Tracklist after the jump.

Poirier – Vivendo Juntos (video)

The Enchufada label, home of kuduro kings Buraka Som Sistema, this week the label releases the fifth in their Hard Ass Sessions series featuring an international line-up consisting of NYC producer/dj Kingdom, Montreal’s world traveller Poirier, Bert on Beats and Pocz & Pocheko, each of whom have risen to the challenge and created their own unique take on a kuduro beat.

Montreal’s Poirier should be well known for the avid Discobelle reader, he is a rising DJ/producer who, in his own words, focuses his productions on “the fusion of Caribbean and electronic music.” Never afraid to integrate a myriad of influences in his music, he rose to the Hard Ass challenge admirably with the track “Vivendo Juntos”, his first ever foray into kuduro and you can check out the video above.

Gilles Peterson and Havana Cultura Remix Contest

Starting today, Discobelle together with super star dj/producer Gilles Peterson and Havana Cultura will give you a chance to win a trip for two to Havanna + tickets to Rotilla Electronic Music Festival with a fantastic remix competition. See all the details below:

“In October 2009, Havana Cultura and DJ Gilles Peterson collaborated to create a double album of modern Cuban music called Gilles Peterson Presents Havana Cultura: New Cuba Sound. Then, June 2010 saw the launch of a remix of the original album, Gilles Peterson Presents: Havana Cultura Remixed. Peterson, an early proponent of the new Cuban sound, personally commissioned some of the world’s biggest DJs to participate on the album, including Carl Cox, Louie Vega of Masters at Work, Solal of Gotan project, MJ Cole, and Cuban DJs Wichy de Vedado and Edgaro. The result was something extraordinary—an infectious marriage of both old and new that perfectly showcases the energy and ambiance of modern Havana. Now, we would like to take modern Cuban music out of the studio and put it back in the hands of the people. Brainchild of Havana Cultura and the world-renowned Gilles Peterson, the Gilles Peterson Remix Contest is an online contest that gives aspiring DJs and music enthusiasts the opportunity to bring today’s Cuban sounds into the spotlight of dance music.

The rules are simple:

Just go to Havana Club’s Facebook page and become a fan. From there you can download one of two original tracks. Then, it’s up to you! You’ll have one month (April 1-29) to craft the most innovative, interesting and dance-worthy remix possible. After, add your remix to the GP Remix Contest drop box on Soundcloud.com and watch for the results released every week. Each week for one month Gilles Peterson will judge the submitted remixes alongside some of the dance music scene’s most popular bloggers. After choosing their favorites, the 10 final favorite tracks will be featured on a Havana Cultura online compilation album. Best of all, the grand prize winner will win a trip for two to Havana, Cuba and tickets to the Rotilla Festival for Electronic Music!

So, what have you got to lose? Listen to the tracks, get inspired, and remix!”
