Rubix – That Rhythm EP Mini Mix

I’m feeling this new release from Rubix on No Brainer alot. We actually tried to grab this for a release on Discobelle Records but you can’t get everything I guess. Good looking release anyway.

You can preview the tracks on soundcloud here and then go buy them on beatport.

Rubix also made a minmix to promote the mix.

Das Racist curate Live Music Show on Network Awesome + “Swate” MP3

Das Racist continually amaze me. In between a non-stop output of two free mixtapes, the seminal “Shut Up, Dude” and collaboration heavy “Sit Down, Man”, they’ve found a position in hip hope somewhere between serious social criticism and rapping about Days of Our Lives (the soap opera), anxiety and gmail chat.

In this personally curated visual mix for allseeing eyes of the internet Network Awesome, Das Racist leaves you with a series of clips from all over the musical spectrum. From a fledgling MGMT playing Talking Heads to “Miss Honey” to Herbie Hancock to Bizzy Bone performing “Don’t Jesus Make You Feel Good” on the Maury Povich Show, there’s some eye opening weirdness for everyone.

Planningtorock – Doorway

Planningtorock may sound like a name suited to a stadium packing AC/DC tribute band, there’s absolutely something else at work in these Grimm-Fairytale slimey disco tunes from The Knife collaborator Janine Rostron.

Inching along with a pulsating beat that slowly expands and spreads like backed by strings, “Doorway” feels like an especially unsettling X-files episode melted into a piece of vinyl. Pulsing and jabbing pizzicatos lurch along with Rostron’s vocals for a deeply atmospheric piece of creep disco.

Tonight

San Francisco based label Rock It Science Labs provides with yet another solid release, “Tonight” is the debut single on the label from Eddie Hoey and it showcases heavy drums, never-ending rises and a sample that brings you back to the future. DC producer/dj Nacey goes in on the b-side with his teched out, piano infused remix that echoes of a hands in the air, Berlin warehouse early morning style dancefloor moment.

Boiler Room #49: Four Tet

Leave it to Kieran Hebden of Four Tet to cast a spell on the latest Boiler Room set – given his recent stutter inducing Thom Yorke collaboration, it’s kind of not surprising how effortless those forty five minutes of new Burial tunes, glitchy unclassifiable house music and computerized moments of dancefloor transcendence seem.

As mentioned before, subscribing to the Boiler Room podcast can score you all these mixes free of charge, and are about as close as you can get to being in a dingy, wet floored basement with a bunch of underground dance music legends. If you want to pretend you were there, you can also watch this video of the set – if you squint at the screen for a few minutes, it’s almost like being there under the influence.

French Horn Rebellion – Up All Night (Clubfeet Remix)

Here’s a remix from the release debut album of French Horn Rebellion, (inefficiently but charmingly) titled “The Infinite Music Of French Horn Rebellion”.

Instead of using the blissed out synth-fest that the original version of “Up All Night” employs, Clubfeet use the echoed whispers from the breakdown for the first half of the track, only to break out into a confetti-and-party-hats style celebration after a few minutes. Good music for jumping into your neighbors pool to after they’ve left town for the weekend.

Deniz Kurtel – Manhunter

New York via Turkey producer Deniz Kurtel has just released her debut album “Music Watching Over Me” on Crosstown Rebels, and it’s a deep, entrancing and thoroughly danceable ode to LED and smoke machine illuminated house and techno music.

Now in the midst of a world tour going from Europe to the US, South America and back again, Kurtel recently conducted an interview with Dummy Mag that talks about integrating her music with computerized LED artwork. Read it HERE, and grab unreleased cut “Manhunter” below.
