Classixx – Into The Valley (Ft. Karl Dixon) (Julio Bashmore Remix)

Cool name, nice haircut, great figurines hanging on the shelf of his kitchen, and the ability to transform anything he touches into something infinitely funkier: These are the gifts that Julio Bashmore is blessed with. Why him and not you or me? I don’t know. Vengeful God or something.

But don’t despair, because Julio really turned this Classixx tune into something much more potent than the original’s slice of carefree beach disco – now it’s a full ode to wandering around the boardwalk at midnight, plugged into a cassette player of old house tunes and wondering when the sun’s going to come up.

You can grab it for free as long as you don’t mind signing your soul over to Green Label Sound. Just kidding, they just want to make sure you won’t resell their mp3s at a 500% markup and some other legal mumbo jumbo when you download it from their site.

702 – Steelo (LOL Boys & Sinjin Hawke Remix)

Montreal / LA duo LOL Boys and Sinjin Hawke sign up for an extremely necessary re-edit of 702′s r&b hit “Steelo” (which, as far as I can figure out, is talking about style).

They clear out plenty of space for the vocals, which waste no time stating “I’m gonna break it down”. Things continue building up from there until Missy Elliot is comparing herself to Michael Jackson behind some crackling high hat acid house drums and shuffling snare rolls. It feels like the audio embodiment of their Montreal based Boomclap party, which we’ve already raved about here before.

Speaking of LOL Boys, their new “LDR” EP is out now and is seriously fantastic stuff. Remixes by NGUZNGUZU, Jim-E Stack, Marcus Price and others, but the original productions are so strong that they almost make all the other takes on them unnecessary.

Blawan – Getting Me Down

Who’d have thought that 2011 was the year of Brandy? Even though 1994 was more than a decade and a half ago now, there’s been a strong resurgence of samples coming from her debut track “I Wanna Be Down”.

Our recent release from Voltron employs part of the vocal hook from “I Wanna Be Down” on “Be For Real”, building up a fort of crystalised synth stabs around Brandy’s warmth.

Jacques Greene pitched up her voice and sliced together some perfectly choppy drums and shimmering distortion overtop the same sample on the title track of his “The Look” EP on LuckyMe.

Pearson Sound even turned the sample into a twinkling, syncopated ode to quasi-house minimalism on his “Down With You” revision.

But there’s something special about Blawan’s take on this track that’s just urging you to rewind it several times while yelling awesome things about it, even if you’re just ustreaming in your basement with two friends online. Maybe it’s the immediately notable is the way that it uses a notably larger chunk of the vocals than any of the other tracks using the same sample. Maybe it’s the discontent rumbling bass simmers underneath something that sounds like a rainstick being turned upside down again and again. Maybe it’s the way that it rejects popiness with warped vocals and slightly out of tune pitch, while still maintaining a housey vibe that wouldn’t sound out of place in a Renaissance Man set.

Whatever the magic is, the white label vinyl pressing has been flying off the shelf, currently sold out at Juno, Rubadub, and several other places, after some stores have even had to enforce a “one-per-customer” policy. That’s nuts. Best of luck trying to get ahold of it! I think there’s a repress coming soon.

Jonas Lundquist – Du, Drömmar & Jag

New beautifully crafted pop music from Jonas Lundquist (formerly known as Jonas Game) on Sincerely Yours.

Alex Niggemann – Lately (video)

German producer Alex Niggemann joins Steve Bug’s Poker Flat Recordings label with his upcoming “Lately” EP release (will be out on friday May 27th), the title track is a haunting, acid bass stomper where a twisted and funky synth line wraps around a heavy old-school house vibe.

Uniforms (ft. Maria Nordström) – March Of No Coincidence

Swedish artist collective Uniforms For The Dedicated launch their latest track: Uniforms featuring Maria Nordström “March Of No Coincidence” on Berlin based Trunkfunk Records. The single features remixes by: Deniz Kurtel, Andre Lodemann, DJ Nibc, Dan Curtin, Mano Le Tough and Moullinex (you can buy the digital copy on Beatport or grab a limited edition vinyl here)

“Uniforms For The Dedicated’s multi-faceted multi-media output is a playground of fashion design, film, art and music. March of No Coincidence is the idea, providing the inspiration for their brand new single, their latest fashion collection, and the cutting-edge video that unites the two.”

Toadally Krossed Out – Toad’s Theme 2012

As the legend goes, Toadally Krossed Out is the result of a Welsh scientific experiment gone totally wrong. One day while experimenting with radiation on toads and blaring techno and electro from his lab’s computer, Milo Terfel fell to the ground dead from a brain Aneurysm. For the 2 weeks leading up to the discovery of his body, the two toad specimens continued to mutate from the radiation while the music from the scientist’s iTunes played on. In this time they developed human bodies and a huge love for dance music.

Whether you choose to believe that mythology or not, Toadally Krossed Out are two producers on Mad Decent with a handle on the emerging genre of apocalyptic amphibian rave music. That much is undeniable.

For evidence, see “Toads Theme 2012″ below, which does more with a looping cacaphony of bullfrog ribbits than any other piece of dance music I’ve heard in my life. Whether you want to call it “swampstep” or not is up to you.

Download from Soundcloud below, and grab the rest of the fantastic EP on iTunes or Amazon.
