Meati & Meech – Bock

In the dim Toronto nightclubs nestled between roti shops and back alleys full of stolen road bikes, there’s a new sound brewing. One of the frontrunners of that Canadian techno contingent is made up of Toronto duo Meati & Meech (Todd Douglas Schlattman and Michel Fournier), whose Discobelle Records debut track “Favela” received overwhelming reviews and popularity as it topped the best selling charts; #1 in the Funky/ Club House & #2 in overall sales. It was second only to Duck Sauce’s ‘Barbra Streisand’, but with less Boney M sampling and more baile funk, bubbling percussion and menacing fog machine hisses.

Their new “Bock” EP is an expansion of their developing signature sound – six tracks that employ rattling percussion and spliced tropical samples to devastating effect with remixes from Panton, Poupon, Deebs and Sunnybeach happyslap Mardigras.

The title track is reminiscent of a marching band lost in hell, trumpet players stumbling forward and fighting their way through a haze of fog while batons twirl in the air. Under all that filtered shuffling there’s a big buildup to a moment of dancefloor euphoria halfway through that’s not to be missed.

Meati & Meech’s second original track on the EP is “Choctaw”, which could be the sound of someone sawing off their leg in the rain forest after a helicopter crash, while echoing 808 pings sounding off in the wilderness. Meati & Meech even manage to pump in some pan flute amongst the percussive ruins of the track, and it sounds like the most logical and natural thing in the world.

Art work by Julia Szulc and mastering by Tommi Langen.

Support us and the artists by getting the EP on Beatport.

Malente & Jay Robinson – Klezzic

A video clip for “Klezzic”, the new single by Malente & Jay Robinson, and the second part of the trilogy “Sleight Of Hand”.

Before you watch it, make sure you’ve seen Slap In The Bass – ‘Egypt’. These two clips will be followed by a third and final video to complete the trilogy. The last chapter of the short movie “Sleight Of Hand” will be delivered to you with the next release on No Brainer Records.

Tensnake – Something About You Video + Lone Remix + New Mix

For a minute I confused this new Tensnake video with footage from the Parisian “We Are Underage” parties that actually do cater to kids who wanna dance but are too young to drink. But this is just ridiculous. Watch the video below and you’ll understand. Also, check out some huge forthcoming vibes on the Lone remix and get in on a 60 minute mix from Tensnake in exchange for your email address.

Homework – Rally Racquet Club (Video)

Following the hazy fever dream disco of their last release on Exploited, Homework throw on a couple polo shirts, pull their socks all the way up and step out onto the courts for some Wimbledon inspired tennis tech-house action for Made To Play.

Okay, no more painfully made journalistic tennis metaphors. Instead, let’s talk about how the sample from The Isely Brother’s 1964 track “Take Me In Your Arms” sounds so utterly at home here amidst the track’s sun drenched piano riffs. The album track is almost double the length of the video cut, which gives this one just enough time to ride out the powerful bassline, reminiscent of the euphoria that you get listening to Daft Punk’s “Discovery” album while running into the ocean naked.

Without a doubt, this is classy summer beach party music arriving at the perfect moment.

Rally Racquet Club will be released on the 20th of June, with a remix by Oliver $ that’s almost in danger of outshining the original. You can preview the whole EP on Made To Play’s soundcloud page.

Boom

We’ll just borrow this from our French buddies in Fluokids, a new tune called “Boom” (releasedate June 27th) by Stockholm duo Lo-Fi-Fnk and it echoes of Daft Punk teamed up with happy go lucky Scandinavian pop.

Rye Rye & Robyn – Never Will Be Mine

M.I.A protegee and Baltimore club princess Rye Rye teams up with Swedens electropop queen Robyn for the track “Never Will Be Mine” (forthcoming single off the upcoming Rye Rye debut album “Go! Bang! Pop!”), it’s a slow mover with the hook borrowed from Robyns hit single “Be Mine”.
