Benoit & Sergio – Around The World

On this vinyl-only release on Gadi Mizrahi’s Double Standard label, Benoit & Sergio lay down a deep electro funk version of Daft Punk’s unfuckwithable “Around The World”.

Does it work? If you consider their intentions, then absolutely, as B&S almost plead to not have this track be taken the wrong way in a recent Dazed Digital interview, stating “we would never try to redo or “compete” with a track like “Around the World.” Our cover is so far away. This is a fragile electrofunk take on a really happy dance track. ”

If that doesn’t sound appealing enough, the B-side is a Slow Hands cover of Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo”. Glad that serious dance music still ain’t taking itself too seriously.

Bien o mal, colgándose de una canción emblemática de la música house, me refiero a “Around the World”, aquel sencillo que Daft Punk convirtiera en todo un hit de su disco Homework en la década de los 90s, los productores y músicos llamados Benoit & Sergio un día se despertaron y dijeron ¿Por qué no hacer una nueva versión de Daft Punk? Y la realidad es que no miento, la idea fue brillante porque a mi parecer, les ha quedado bastante bien. [...]
