Dirty Sound System – Summer 2011 pt.2 (A Techno Mix)

Them Dirty Sound System boys with the second part of their summer 2011 mix, this one is all about techno.

“A rainy July night, a bottle of fine red wine, some classic/old/new tunes: Here is the second part of the summer 2011 tapes. The following set was recorded in one take, no editing, no overdubs, no ableton live wizzardry. the mistakes make sense, they’re part of the journey. Hope you will enjoy. Monarchy – Maybe I’m Crazy (Azari & III Remix)

Azari & III are unstoppable right now, and in anticipation of their forthcoming debut full length album on Modular, we’re super excited to show off their new remix of faceless, nameless dancefloor renegades Monarchy, who don’t reveal their identity because they “feel that artists have become bland and sanitized by the constant broadcast of personal lives”.

Fair enough. All that matters to us is the bubbling acid tinged house workout that this collaborative remix endeavor has spawned, thanks in no short part to some quite good source material. The new Monarchy album is streaming on soundcloud in full here, don’t miss out on giving it the first of many listens.

Burial – Shell of Light (Shlohmo Remix)

Summer mornings in an apartment without air conditioning are full of those hazy borderline fever dreams that feel like your dehydrated brain is rattling around your skull, knocking meat sized chunks loose in the process.

To remedy that, this Shlohmo reworking of Burial’s classic “Shell of Light” track feels like immersing your body in an underwater cavern of icewater – subdued high hats and buzzing background synth don’t do anything to overpower the melancholic allure of the original. Listen to it in the morning.

Brenmar – Live In Japan (July 2011) (video)

Brenmar went to Japan and lived the life + stirred things up.

PS. Check out his contribution with the smashing “Waiting On” track to the forthcoming (July 25th) Enchufada – Hard Ass Sessions Volume IV compilation.

wafa

Wafa – Kanga

Who better to educate you on the new Grizzly release than words Straight from the mouth of labelrunner Sinden:

WAFA’s been a drummer for years (touring all over the world with Basement Jaxx and that’s how we met) but unlike some drummers that get caught up in extended drum solo trickery (he can do that too!) he prefers to let the beats roll out on his solo work. His drums are something that I admire a lot as a fellow producer – sonically massive – dance music driven from the kick!

The Lucky Strike EP is crafted from a template of house music, but the live drums on this one make it a bit more difficult to classify, darting in and out of the traditional elements of a club boot knocker. Music that’s solelyplayed on a drum kit in the studio then re arranged and edited definitely adds a bit of a kick.

Grab a free download of non-album track Kanga below, and stream the whole EP over on Grizzly’s Soundcloud page. Don’t forget to pick it up too!

The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love (Emporer Machine Edit)

How deep is my love for this Rapture re-edit by future disco overlords The Emperor Machine? Pretty deep. This track avoids diving too far into the deep end of the pool though, and gives a tidied up edit that trims the edges around the Rapture’s refreshingly classic sounding new single- with more bongos, naturally.

Ifan Daffyd – No Good

I know you see Amy Winehouse in that youtube screenshot, but please! Don’t scroll away yet!
It’s not really about Winehouse at all.

Instead, it’s about Ifan Dafydd, who’s already (prematurely) being dubbed “The Welsh James Blake” by talking heads of the internet. The name sounds strange enough to be a pseudonym, but apparently it’s pronounced (ee-van da-vith), and there’s also compelling evidence to silence inevitable comparisons to a recent post-dubstep British superstar who goes by James B.

When I first saw the bootlegged video for “No Good”, I thought that Amy Winehouse was authentically involved in this project in some capacity. Fortunately, that’s not the case, and the only trace of her are some vocals that actually sound kind of wistfully great when put in the right context.

No Good is getting a vinyl only release, keep your eyes peeled.
