Benoit & Sergio – Around The World

On this vinyl-only release on Gadi Mizrahi’s Double Standard label, Benoit & Sergio lay down a deep electro funk version of Daft Punk’s unfuckwithable “Around The World”.

Does it work? If you consider their intentions, then absolutely, as B&S almost plead to not have this track be taken the wrong way in a recent Dazed Digital interview, stating “we would never try to redo or “compete” with a track like “Around the World.” Our cover is so far away. This is a fragile electrofunk take on a really happy dance track. ”

If that doesn’t sound appealing enough, the B-side is a Slow Hands cover of Sade’s “Sweetest Taboo”. Glad that serious dance music still ain’t taking itself too seriously.

Toddla T Feat. Roots Manuva – Watch Me Dance

Here, Toddla T does the next-to-impossible, and gives us a Roots Manuva collaboration that can actually be described as a full blown summer dance party affair.

It’s a stark contrast to Manuva’s paranoia-laden previous output like “Awfully Deep”, which sounds more like it was recorded while he was barricaded in a dark room performing a homemade exorcism. But all things considered, Watch Me Dance feels nothin’ but natural, and its laid back funkiness suits Manuva’s delivery quite well. Hooray for getting rid of your ghosts!

Watch Me Dance drops August 1st.

NGUZUNGUZU – Timesup EP on Fade To Mind

NGUZUNGUZU have never failed to deliver productions that massively shift the way we conceive of dance music, so it makes sense that their release on Prince William and Kingdom’s collaborative record label Fade To Mind.

Billed as “a record label and a movement, a series of club nights and cooperative projects in music, visual art, video, and apparel”, Fade To Mind is off to a stellar start with the NGUZUNGUZU created “Timesup” EP – full of intricately crafted pieces of dance music.

“Water Bass Power” sounds like someone sharpening daggers on a waterfall – unstoppably fluid, movement based dance music with a serious kick to it, and Kingdom’s laid back but anxiety laden R&B recut of the shuffling, “Timesup”, a tune about having to call people back, turned off phones, and an underlying unsettled vibe about one’s relationship. With production like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fade To Mind gang were responsible for 98% of computer hacking that’s going on these days – futuristic, global club virus music going full speed ahead.

Buy the Timesup EP here, with remixes by Total Freedom and Kingdom, as well as three mind eclipsing original tracks by the NGUZUS.

You can also download a mix full of exclusives from Rizzla, Dubbel Dutch, AraabMuzik and more below.

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team – Bassface / Pretty Pretty Good

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team — BASSFACE 投稿者 SoundPellegrino

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team celebrates three years of spaced out genre bending with two club friendly instruments of destruction as one of the most hilarious, inventive and constantly unmimicable labels in the game.

First thing’s first, “Bassface” takes us back to the days of Miami and Atlanta Bass music, made for the rollerskating rink, but with an added macabre 808 trap feel and venomous digi-medieval undertones.

However, the one that’s really going to get everyone’s attention seems to be “Pretty Pretty Good” – not only is it a shimmering burst of woodblock percussion, panting and g-funk laser blasts in the background, but it’s an obvious nod to the infamous HBO cult sitcom Curb Your Enthusiasm, which is maybe the best unmined use of dance music source material up unto this point.

Sound Pellegrino Thermal Team EP is out on iTunes now, CONSUME.

Also, Teki and Orgasmic have their own online store now, and while there’s no vinyl there, there are plenty of stylish pieces for the tech-house Karl Lagerfeld in you.
