DJ Wool – All Vinyl Breaks Mix

Long ago, in a time before CDJ’s, DJ Controllers, Final Scratch and Serato, DJ Wool (half of The Glass and beatmaker for our recent Spoek collaboration) put together a bedroom apartment mix on a stupidly hot summer day in 2002, recorded from vinyl, using an MPC1000 for samples and a Digitech fx unit onto an Adat.

The tracks are a mixed bag of music that at the time were called “new school breaks” (though now, using the term ‘new school’ for something released in 2002 feels a bit strange) andd early 90′s hardcore/pre drumnbass.

Loaded with white label cuts, you can hear some DJ Phantasy, R&S Records, Ills, 2 Bad Mice, DJ ICEE, Squarepusher, Marine Parade, Krafty Kuts, Stanton Warriors, as well as lots of forgotten, misplaced or now-warped-beyond-recognition records. In addition, NYC Early Graffiti Writer Phase provides an intro that makes you feel like right at home in another era of dance music. Grab it below!

Four Tet – Locked

Whether or not the title is a subtle tribute to Rinse FM or The Boiler Room is anybody’s guess.

‘Locked’ is the eleventh release on his Text label and taken from Hebden’s ‘FABRICLIVE 59′ compilation. Kind of scary how prolific Four Tet is becoming. Stream it below.

In terms of Gwen Stefani’s output, there’s really not much that can top her collaboration with EVE way back when this video used to come on every 2 hours on Much Music, but that doesn’t mean that we’ve given up on her.

Here for example, Lapalux mines the chorus of “Luxurious”, cuts out Slim Thug, adds some flourishes and ends up with a tightly coiled piece of “r&b-veering-into-triphop” that hits all the right spots.

oki-ni presents TRAVELS by Tensnake

British boutique oki-ni continues with their mix series, the 37th volume sees German techhouse producer Tensnake providing us with a exciting mix of: “…Almost like a sort of musical diary, some of the tracks are by people that I have met, or on labels that I work with, some are old favourite ‘on repeats’ and others simply caught my attention when I heard them and take be straight back to that place again.”

To celebrate the release of the mix, they have an exclusive run of signed Tensnake Live + box sets including a limited edition t-shirt with artwork from Dutch conceptual design agency Droog which are up for grabs by tweeting at @okini and @mixcloud the reason why you should win one, with the most creative entry taking the prize.
