Worthy – Lost Dog (LOL Boys Remix)

Worthy’s new release on Discobelle Records is a skeletal house beat with some big hollow, rapid wartime drums on the original which blossoms into a piece of tech house trance warfare – we’ve also got a 7th level of hell reworking from Pelican Fly alumni Lucid, and LOL Boys working some percussive somersaults with the original, building it up into one of their most infectious ballooning basslines to date.

Stream the whole EP here, and download the LOL Boys remix for free below:

Drake Feat. Rihanna – Take Care

Sooo, the new Drake album leaked today, and this is maybe one of the most interesting cuts from it – heavily using the source material from Jamie XX’s remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s “I’ll Take Care Of You” track.

This makes three Drake songs that’ve worked themselves into the fabric of XL Recordings’ recent material, following the Jai Paul “BTSTU” sampling “Dreams Money Can Buy” and Drizzy’s impromptu rework of SBTRKT’s “Wildfire”.

Hearing Rihanna sing Gil’s lines without the rough scratchy deep voice that we’re accustomed to is a bit jarring, but definitely has its own appeal. Take Care is out Nov. 15th, or on the internet right now.

NICOjaar

For the Jaarheads – Free Nico Jaar EP

Enjoy this complimentary EP of Nicolas Jaar tracks courtesy of his Clown & Sunset label after the recent removal of “Space Is Only Noise You Can See” LP from shelves due to an uncleared Ray Charles sample.

The first three minutes of “Don’t Break My Love” sounds like it could be an unreleased cut from a DNTEL album ten years ago – crackling vinyl sounds in the background, tiny blips of percussion and syncopated pulses in the darkness. It’s only further in that Jaar’s(?) voice chimes in and begins to give coherence to all these unrelated sounds, pulling things together until all that remains at the end is a trance-hop inspired slow jam that lets the track’s title ring out again and again.

“Why Didn’t You Save Me” is by far the highlight here, and it sounds like the product of some unrehearsed jam session verging on falling apart. It takes a little while for all the percussion to “click” together, but at the halfway mark once again, Jaar emerges with a product that probably shouldn’t work on dancefloors but that probably will regardless; faint notes of what sounds like a sitar riding in the background wind while woody percussion lines and tinkling pianos take center stage.

Limited-edition vinyl release soon to follow via Clown + Sunset.
