Sunny

Mercury down in Switzerland contacted us with their latest edit where they take on the legendary Marvin Gaye for a perfect edit that subtly adds an extended beat for a light and heartwarming track that maintains the soul of the original. We will be playing this repeatedly during the upcoming holidays.

ceo – Illuminata (D Lissvik remix)

ceo is Eric Berglund, one half of the Tough Alliance and this is the epilogue to his 2010 album “White Magic”. Scandinavian electropop at its finest and Dan Lissvik soothes our ears with a glistening, balearic sounding gem of a remix.

Safari Sound X Petter X Red Stripe presents: A Reggae Christmas

Christmas is nearly upon us and with their latest mixtape Malmö sound system Safari Sound makes sure we feel the holiday spirit, albeit in a slightly different way.

“It all started a few weeks ago when we had an “early Caribbean Christmas lunch” with the godfather of Swedish rap, Petter. Petter is a big fan of Safari Sound mixtapes and he wondered if we would be interested in doing a mixtape project together with him and Red Stripe. This is the result: nearly an hour of “reggae Christmas classics” mixed by DJ Shirkhan and Sammy K. Give thanx for the idea and opportunity Petter and big up Red Stripe, Crazy Youths and The Soul Lounge.

We wish ya’ll a Merry Reggae Christmas and A Dancehall New Year!”

Psychemagik – Healin’ Feeling Edits 2

Delving into Psychemagik’s soundcloud page is like wandering into a balearic wormhole that transports you back to the days of dirty moog laserbeams. Psychemagik’s productions always seem to have a warmth to them, evoking the serenity of sitting on the beach watching a lunar eclipse or the
unfiltered nostalgia of hearing songs you loved and forgot about blared out in a slightly repackaged format.

All of this is at work in their newest offering, the second installment of four limited edition 12″s in a series of edits from their forthcoming re-edits album “Healin’ Feelin’s”.

“Ass Nation” is a white hot ball of pure funk energy, riding somewhere in between Tom Tom Club and Sly & The Family Stone- the guitars are hypnotizing. Flip side “Upskirt” is a skeezy narrative boogie-rock tale about murder soundtracked by echoing flangers and sparse tambourine shakes, guaranteed to make you walk across the dancefloor like you’re in a movie.

Grab the whole thing at Phonica, and while you’re at it why don’t you take some generous free Psychemagik edits too? Like, say, their Metronomy remix of “Everything Goes My Way” and a ten and a half minute Yardbirds edit that goes to some pretty marvelous places.

Cut Copy – Sun God (Andy Weatherall Remix)

In spite of their recurring problems with dandruff, huge accolades are due to Cut Copy, as their recent Zonoscope album was nominated for a Best Dance/Electronica Album Grammy which they could easily scoop one up.

To celebrate this achievement, Modular are giving away veteran of the scene Andrew Weatherall’s version of “Sun God”, which feels like you’re drifting through the cosmos on a narwhal – epic, blissed out dance pop for this universe and any other ones out there.

Grab it below!
