LA-based alt r’n’b artist TOLLIVER released his debut EP “Rites” via https://www.facebook.com/iceaofficial/“>Icons Creating Evil Art recently and now the first single off the EP “I Gotchu” receives a superb sounding remix treatment from acclaimed Swedish producer Saturday, Monday.
“What I love about the original track is that it is very ’visual’ and that the appeal lies in its form. So I knew that I didn’t want to just loop up a section and put some drums on it but rather try to expand the theme further having Tchaikovsky’s ‘Swan Lake’ and Berry Jenkins’ film ’Moonlight’ in mind” – Saturday, Monday
“Saturday, Monday brought a powerful humanity and curiosity to my song about my estranged brother. The woodwinds, the tastefully done beat; it’s a vision I didn’t see coming but now can’t live without” – Tolliver
The remix sees Saturday, Monday spin off a simple yet hypnotizing beat against Tollivers moodfelt lyrics dealing with an estranged brother.
We go way back with Dave Nada and Tittsworth and they’ve both been staples here at Discobelle HQ with a steadfast stream of quality releases throughout the last decade, this of course means that we’re extra delighted to be able to share their brand new collaboration track “Slo Ur Roll”, a dark and moody and absolutely stellar club track with a mid track tempo change.
The track is taken from Los Angeles based label Understated Recordings’ debut compilation release “All of U|S, VOL / 001” which is released tomorrow November 9th, the compilation features various flavours of house and tech-house from the likes of LA Riots, Lupe Fuentes, Anakim, Modus, Grensta, 28mm, Thomas Garcia, Nonfiction, Roy Wilkins, Missy B Joluca, WhereIsFenix, Lok N Key, Michael Fam, and Ucros.
“Dave and I have been hard at work preparing for the launch of our label, Hermanito. As a result we were introduced to Andrew via Create/Label Engine, where we became fans of Understated. From there I started work on this song specifically for the label. It i came together pretty quickly and Dave’s well known tendency to cut tempo came through once again (but maybe the song is also about aging ravers) haha? Excited to be a part of Understated fam and had a blast at my first event recently– really dope downtown warehouse party vibes. Even semi-effectively slowed my roll that night– made it in before sunrise!” – Tittsworth
