Mixin’ It Up: T-Wrecks

null

T-Wrecks is a member of one of our favorite dj-crews, namely Stylusts (along with Drastik, DJ Illo and Kid SL. They just started their own blog which is located here) out of Canada. They’ve been killing it as individual contenders in the DMC contests and were the 2006 Canadian DMC Team Champions. T-Wrecks hails from Toronto/Ottawa and has been crunking out some sweet tracks lately, among them the recent Timbaland “Way I Are” remix and the much appreciated B-more version of “Get It Shawty”. We’re very glad he wanted to do a mix for us here at Discobelle and here it is for your enjoyment.

TRACKLIST:

“What Up World! Listen and enjoy…”

01 - Twista - Well It’s Time

“Well It’s Time To Begin”! The lyrics and feel of this song were perfect to start off the mix. It’s a bonus track from Twista’s new album produced by Kanye West, and it samples Feist.

02 - Paul McCartney feat. Michael Jackson - Say Say Say (12inch mix)

I had to throw on a funky 80s joint. Timeless feel good music from the classic duo.

03 - Justice - D.A.N.C.E (DJ Eli & Diplo Remix)

My favorite version/remix of D.A.N.C.E. - I played some David Bowie “Lets Dance” cuts/drops at the start to add some flavor. I cut up some b-more drums over the breakdown at the end while mixing in the next track (adds that turntablist feel to it).

04 - Kid Sister / Justin Timberlake - Damn Girl

I like playing around with songs that have similar track names or lyrics. This is the battle of the “Damn Girl”.

05 - Lil Mama - Lip Gloss (Kid Fresh ReFix)

Kid Fresh and Haterboy murder this one! I’ve been playin’ this one out for a while now. Big up to the Lordz of Fitness!

06 - Slum Village - EZ Up (T-Wrecks Remix)

The synths in the original ‘EZ Up’ were so dope that I had to do a remix. Detroit hip-hop will never die. R.I.P J-DILLA!

07 - Sinden vs Tag Team - Whoomp There It Is (DJ Illo’s 2007 TouchUp)

Another Stylusts production! Illo refreshes “Whoomp There It Is” for 2007.

08 - 50 Cent ft. Justin Timberlake - She Wants It (Edwin Van Cleef Remix)

Ayo Technology remix that just BANGS!!!

09 - Chromeo - Tenderoni (MSTRKRFT Remix)

Chromeo & MSTRKRFT! Two Canadian duos that are representin’ world wide.

10 - T-Wrecks - Oh Sheila Remix

I freaked it just enough that it still has the flavor of the original track and it bangs louder.

11 - Afrika Bambaataa - Get Up and Dance (Stylusts Remix)

We made this remix recently, so it’s not fully mastered yet. I just had to squeeze this track into the mix and let the people get a sneak peak of what the Stylusts are up to. We have a lot of interesting remixes coming so hold tight!

12 - DJ Neoteric - Stardust vs Nirvana

DJ Drastik put me onto this one. This blend works really well on the dance floor. Big up to Neoteric for holding down Canada’s West Coast.

13 - Stylusts - Playboy Ya Time’s Up!

DJ Drastik and I thought of remixing Benny Benassi’s “Satisfaction” because we liked the hard synths in it. The original track seems cheesy to me. It reminds me of Canadian strip clubs and Stephen Hawking. We decided to give the track more ass by adding dirty drums and different vocals. This remix works on the dance floor every time. We’re currently on a mission of remixing cheesy dance/rave songs and giving them some filth and swagger.

14 - Rustie - Preech Master

This beat just seemed to fit perfectly for a transition into the next song. Thanks to Rustie for sending me this one!

15 - Techtwelve & Mike Tull - T-Dot Slang

My boy Techtwelve and Mike Tull made this remix of Kardinal Offishall’s “Bakardi Slang”. The original track is a Toronto anthem - I had to represent somehow. Look out for those Techtwelve remixes!

16 - M.I.A - Bucky Done Gone (Risk One B’fix)

Risk One lets this one thump hard.

17 - T-Wrecks - Way I Are Remix

I made this when the track first came out but I didn’t leak it until recently. Google this one and download it!

18 - Soulja Boy - Crank Dat (Pop Rawkus Remix)

There are many remixes of this track but I chose the Pop Rawkus one because it bangs and it fit nicely into the mix. The Cousin Cole - ‘Crank Dat’ remix is real nice too.

19 - 50 Cent - I Get Money (ESTAW Gets Cash Fix)

I Get Money is a big track whether you like 50 Cent or not. ESTAW did up a crazy remix!

20 - Kanye West - Stronger (A-Trak Remix)

50 Cent vs Kanye West, the battle continues! I had to put these two tracks back to back. A-Trak destroys it with this one. Another extremely talented and influential DJ from Canada.

21 - Biggie - Everyday Struggle (Bird Peterson Remix)

Bird Peterson always brings the heat! This track is coming out on vinyl this fall. Be on the look out.

22 - Goldrocc - 93′Til Bmore (Instrumental) / Suzanne Vega - Tom’s Diner

This blend is an outro for the mix. I wanted to go out on a mellow tip and make it a ‘To Be Continued’ type ending.

Thanks to the Discobelle fam!”

Mixin’ It Up: Krames & Bird Peterson

Friday, September 21st, 2007

null

Krames & Bird Peterson are back! These two fine gentlemen have both been featured on Discobelle before and with this banging new mix they’re truly setting the bar for mixes to come. Bump this and you’re all set for the weekend. This is also the precursor to the Fangs and Feathers EP coming this fall! Now, we’ll let them present the mix:

TRACKLIST:

PART 1: BIRD PETERSON

Tittsworth - 911 (Bird Peterson Remix)

This track is a hot new jam by Mr. Tittsworth, and he was kind enough to let me have a stab at remixing it. And I did.

Mos Def - Ms. Fat Booty (Bird Peterson Remix)

Without a doubt, the best song by my man Mos. I wanted to remix it, but I didnt want to tread on this gold, so I tried taking it in a completely different direction. Towards the end of production, I realized I needed to bring back the sample since that is mainly what people identify in this song. You can snag this song as one of the B sides with the Wutang remix on my new LP on NASTYMIX this fall!

Cupid - Cupid Shuffle (Bird Peterson Remix)

I made this track about 20 minutes after I heard the original play on the radio. Then DSJ informed me that my remix song got bootlegged on the Ear To The Streets vinyl series. I was so happy to hear it, though, because someone once told me thats how you know you’ve officially made it.

Plump DJs - The Rub Off

The Plump DJs are fucking wonderful, and this track has such a great bassline. I think it might be one of the better basslines to come out of dance music.

Kurtis Blow - The Breaks (Bird Pete Remix)

This one dropped on SES Vol. One. This has always been my favorite hip hop song ever, and I was fortunate enough to grab one of the first pressings of the original. Agian, I didnt want to tread on the original so I took this in an electro direction. The bassline is a backwards version of the bass from the song “Glory Be” off my album Hot Noise.

Fatboy Slim - Acid 8000 (Bird’s Extendo Edit 8000)

This song is just so damn good. It has one of the best hooks ever, plus it drops really well. I extended the build up so it would last longer, thus making the kids dance harder.

Justice - Stress

Easily my favorite track from the album. D.A.N.C.E. is obviously the single from the album, but this one creates this incredible mood that I havent heard on the dancefloor in a long time.

Biggie - Everday Struggle (Bird Peterson Remix)

I took this one in the same direction as the Mos Def and Kurtis remixes. Again, the beat was just too damn good to give this the traditional remix, so I had to flip it. This is also available as a Bside on Nastymix 001 this fall!

Bonecrusher - Never Scared (Krazy Fiesta Remix)

This is an absurdly good remix by a very great team that has suffered a terrible, terrible tragedy (RIP Jesper, we miss you!), but is still moving to change the world with some very fantastic remixes.

Deejay Punk Roc - My Beatbox

I just love this guy so much. I wish he had more records. Like 300 more. And I also wished he lived next door. And everyday when I came out to get the paper, he would go, “Hey Bird! I was cooking up some hot jams and thought you would like them!” And I would go, “Sure, buddy! Let me just throw on some rope chains, and I’ll be over in a minute!”

PART 2: KRAMES

Krames In The Building - Krames

Since we did a constant mix, I flipped up the end of Bird’s track into an intro track. Lots of cats do vocal drops in their intro’s so I wanted to do something to stand out when my section starts. I like the energy of the high pitch voice and the hype in the background. It creates the tone for the rest of the mixtape. Kinda of a mock Fatman Scoop, since I was gonna use his voice in the next track anyway, figured eh, why not.

Make Noise! - Krames

I made this track with some Fatman Scoop addlibs kind of as a joke while I was takin a smoke break from the “Tricks” remix maybe a month or so ago. Scoop’s voice is so hype. The track is really underproduced and is just about introducing a sound to the club. The stuff he says is off the wall sometimes. The content of this track is all about gettin yours, so, the next track made sense with it.

Fuck You Pay Me (Purple Crush & Scottie B) - Krames

This is a remix I did for Purple Crush when we were in LA. We were hanging out drinking Steaz, some organic energy drink that we were all about, and they mentioned they had “Pay Me” coming out in like 2 days. I did a “Shopping on the Dancefloor” remix for them that was well liked, so the “Pay Me” joint was like, boom, done. So I made this to give out and promo the track they did with Scottie B.

Niggaz Fightin - Scottie B

Since Scottie B did the original “Pay Me” track I was like, lemme put this banger from Scottie B next. His tracks are always dope, and I respect the dude as a producer/dj and tastemaker.

Get Up Yo! - Krames

Come on get up everybody. Thats a dope hook to be putting out there. This is a recent track I made to put out in my next release. I like the synth pattern I did for this track a bunch. Its feel good and current at the same time. The “Yo!” is coming from an Eve vocal sample I took from an acapella. “Yo’s” and “What’s” always pull the hype factor up in a club track.

Tricks (La Vida Locash feat. Rosanna) - Krames

This is a remix that I was asked to do for La Vida Locash’s Kocky release. They’re from Sweden. The original track is hella “pop” oriented so I went for a club feel for the remix. I was stoked to work with them and do this track for their release. Rosanna kills it on the vocals, she has a great voice, especially for a club track like this one. Mad girls tell me the hook gets stuck in their head too, so thats a plus.

Bass on the Bottom (remix instrumental) - Mr. Hahn & Troublemaker

I think this remix they did for Lady Tigra is dope. I like the track a bunch and was feeling the instrumental. I like how it starts half time so it goes into “Tricks” really well because “Tricks” also goes down to a half time beat throughout the track. The breakdown after the intro of the beat works perfect for the transition into the next track too.

Players Choose You - Krames

This original track is so boot knockin, I mean, like late night on the come up. I love the UGK & Outkast jam too. People front cause Project Pat used this beat a few years ago, but that’s whatever. This joint is dope. The club version goes hella well cause like people know the track, and sometimes they don’t know the original, so hittin em’ with that midway through kinda sets this track apart from a lot of other club tracks people like to do with “current” hits or whatever. You know, like I never heard a “Stay Fly” remix that used any of the verses from Willie Hutch’s original “Tell Me Why Our Love Has Turned So Cold.” I’m just sayin’.

Work This Pussy - Krames

Work This Pussy, I mean, nuff said. This is a classic club verse, my version is basically keeping it current. I used some vocal clips from “Drop It LIke It’s Hot” which can be a dated track but I was like, whatever, it’s a relevant statement when workin some pussy. Its a dirty track I guess, but lots of club tracks are. The horns are from “Put Your Leg Up,” an old baltimore club track that was also remixed by Diamond K. It’s been around for a hell of a long time and came from the go go band Pure Elegance’s “One Leg Up.” They just ended up doin a chant with the hook. I like how the flipped horns sound on this one midway through the track.

Boyz (M.I.A.) - Hatchmatik

This track from Hatch is dope. He’s from Montreal and rocks with A-Rock doing Peer Pressure parties. His claps are bangin and the horns from “Work This Pussy” fall good over the first part of the track. I was stoked to get this one from him. I don’t know if it hit the blogs or not. I’m hoping not so I can keep playing it for a while. Hatch always comin through with some dope remixes, edits, whatever you wanna call them.

Calbria (Horn Solo) - Enur & Natasja

These horns are off the chain. I got a re-edit from Hoff with an extended intro and I’ve been playing the full track in a lot of my sets. It goes well into really any other track with horns. Horn House or something like that, haha, I don’t know. But people are into this track none the less.

Southside Supastar - Krames & Bobby LaBeat

Me and Bobby LaBeat decided to go see The Shop Boyz perform “Party Like a Rock Star” at the club in Richmond and this girl Ruin opened up for them. She killed it and did this song “Southside Supastar” and the crowd went bananas. The joint was a hit, I was hearing it on the radio when they would play local joints at night. Me and Bobby started doing the remix with just the hook on the intro but then got the full acapella from her and put the verses in. It’s coming out on a release from Small Town DJ’s so look for that.

Explicit Dirty Lyrics - Krames

Just-Ice is the jam. He made a lot of tight tracks. I always thought it would be tight to do something w/ the intro for “Original Ganster of Hip Hop.” This track is also gonna be on my next release. I’m into the hype factor created by the “explicit dirty lyrics.” It’s one of those club tracks that’s kind of funny as well you know. I kept a verse in there but its not in the mixtape version. I’m into the funk style club shit so using some of those elements like the hand drums and air horns was dope too.

What! More Time - Krames

People really get into this track. There has been a kind of Daft Punk frenzy lately with their recent tour, Kanye’s “Stronger” release, and not to jump on the bandwagon, but I wanted to do something with Daft Punk as well. Most of the remixes coming out have been really electro style or of the “Stronger” joint. I wanted to do something that would get some play for a while. Like “Touch It” came out and that song got mad remixes but now no one really plays it anymore, so, nuff said.

Stop Messin Around with Me! - Krames

Obviously this joint is like a funk club remix of Darude’s “Sandstorm,” but i feel it stands out because of the funk elements that it brings to the table. I needed something to close the mixtape with and “What! More Time” is kinda like, well you gotta play something “one more time” so to speak, so what’s hyper than that. The infamous “Sandstorm.” I chopped it up to fit a club beat and edited the Crookers “Para De Gracinha” (which means stop messin around with me) acapella by MC Leka for the track. I”m pretty stoked about how the track is introduced into the mix and how it carries out the theme for the end.

Mixin’ It Up: The Bulgarian

Friday, August 24th, 2007

Another friday and time for another Mixin’ It Up. This time we present you with the fine gentleman known as The Bulgarian, who gives us a banging fidget house mix that’s guaranteed to make you move your feet. Here’s what he has to say:

“Born in Bulgaria but having lived in Cape Town, South Africa for the last 16 years, The Bulgarian just like to see people dance! That’s entire motivation behind the music he makes and plays. Aside from that look out for the new EP due out on Potty Mouth Music in Chicago and various remix projects that are in the works at the moment. For gig details and more info check out The Bulgarian’s MySpace.

The Mix: Just did this mix with the intention of it being very listenable and smooth as opposed to my usual more lose your nuts to it style of crazy. That being said, the tracks in here aren’t the shy types either. There’s a couple of real belters and as usual a good dose of silly, but throughout there is always the prerequisite ass-shaking groove that is the Fidget and hugest amount of bass I can get away with! So with that, please turn up your sound and enjoy this mix! ;)

1) Brabe - 50 Ways (Unreleased)

Found this kid on MySpace. He’s Dutch and 17 years young! Incredibly original and mature tracks. Somebody needs to sign this kid! And it’s not just this one tune either, everything i’ve heard so far is good, in fact there’s 2 more of his tunes in this mix later on!

2) KiNK - Bad Man Nah Inna Dat (The Bulgarian’s 2007 re-beat) (Bootleg)

A mate from Bulgaria, amazing talent! This tune was a little Beenie Man bootleg he cobbled together in 2003, all i did was dub over my own drums over his for a more 2007 punch, but essentially the track is as he wrote it. Check his stuff out, he’s on my myspace top friends!

3) Jeff Samuel - Fire (Claude Von Stroke’s Like Flya Remix)

“Met” Jeff via MySpace a while back, cool dude, and this tune had a real fidgety element to it and it’s my bridge to the more minimalesque part of my mix. I actually prefer the original mix but the CVS version worked better in the set.

4) Unknown - Unknown

At the request of the artist who gave me the track, i’m not allowed to disclose anything about it yet. But if all goes well this should be out soon on a nice big label. ;)

5) Samim - Heater (Get Physical)

Do I really need to talk about this one. Hehe. Yeah, I like music that doesn’t take itself seriously and this is the epitome of that. Hate it or Love it, its definitely not going to pass by unnoticed.

6) DJ Fame - Anutha Day in The Ghetto (The Bulgarian’s Bounce in The Ghetto Remix) (Potty Mouth)

This is remix I did for Fame’s upcoming ep on Potty Mouth in Chicago. First EP on the label is by the Crookers, Fame’s is the second and, mine will follow after that. Watch this label! ;)

7) Brabe - Schokolade (Unreleased)

The second of the 3 tracks in the mix. Still can’t believe he’s only 17! ;)

8) The Bulgarian - It’s Brunch (Rock Miao Miao) (On The Brink)

This is off my Ignition EP for London’s On The Brink, out now on Juno Download and I believe we may see it pressed to Vinyl fairly soon! The “Rock Miao Miao” is the first thing DJ Phra said to me when he first heard this tune, i loved it so its become the second name to this tune.

9) Dub Pistols - Open (Trevor Lovey’s Open All Hours Re-Jig) (Sunday Best)

As is to be expected from this Speaker Junkie, solid tune and a definite winner with the crowds.

10) Jamie Fanatic & Jesse Voorn - Fire Time (Original)

I just randomly stumbled across this little gem recently, very cool, but those off hi-hats in the intro make it a nightmare to mix! Otherwise its exceptionally crazy and that’s why I like it! ;) hehe.

11) Curses! - What I Need (The Bulgarian’s &^%$ing Remix) (Unreleased)

Myself and Curses! hooked up on myspace where he offered to do a remix swap with me, this is what i did and I’m waiting to see what he’s gonna come up with! ;)

12) Simian Mobile Disco - I Believe (Switch Remix) (Wichita)

Have to give props to the man who’s responsible for popularising Fidget house so much. And this remix is really dope, it reminds me more of his older Solid Groove productions which is how I got into the genre in the first place.

13) The Bulgarian - Ignition (On The Brink)

Title track off of the Ignition EP for On The Brink. Get it on Juno Download.

14) Brabe - She’s Really Got You (Unreleased)

Last one, but by now you should be convinced of this kid’s talent. I hope he gets signed soon, can’t wait to see what he’ll do next. Respect!

15) The Bulgarian - Into The Groove (Potty Mouth)

This is forthcoming on my Zombie Door EP for Potty Mouth Music in Chicago. Should be out in about 2.5 months hopefully. Just mixing up a little 303 acid with my drum ‘n bass roots.

16) The Bulgarian - Uptown Jack

Also from the Ignition EP, and probably my best break and build-up ever. It always get the hands and glow-sticks in the air, hehe.

17) Bryan Cox - Get Nasty (Crux/Weapon)

Bryan Cox, if you know who he is (and he’s quite well known) is not usually a name one might associate with this kind of music but lately he’s been turning his hand to the dirtier and more fidgety side of the house spectrum and I say “Bring It ON!”. This tune is NASTY!

18) The Bulgarian ft. Spoek & Bukky - The Zombie Door (Potty Mouth)

Title track for the Potty Mouth EP, I have to big-up my friend Spoek from Sweat.X and the lady Bukky for the killer zombie vox on this one. Expect to hear it in Zombie Disco Squad sets… ;) There’s also a killer remix by Santiago & Bushido that will be on the EP as well, check it out on their MySpace, absolutely mental!!!

19) Alex Holland - Put It To The Back Of Your Mind (Cheeky Dub) (Atlantic Jaxx)

Until a friend pointed this release out to me I’d never heard of this guy, but its on Basement Jaxx’s label, and this song is killer so I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for his next release.

20) Goodbooks - The Illness (Herve Dub) (CDR)

Omfg! Insane. Best piece of work by Mr Harvey this whole year! Just mad. I just love ending on high notes! ;)

Download: The Bulgarian Mix For Discobelle, Aug 07 (zShare)

PS: If you’re in Malmö, you can catch The Bulgarian along with Duke Dumont and our danish friends in Yohad at the club Drama that goes down at Debaser tomorrow night (Aug 25th).

Mixin’ It Up: Local Hero

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Pic by Clayton Hauck

Once again the windy city comes through with yet another talent. This week’s Mixin’ It Up comes from Local Hero who was recommended to us by Casi G of Flamin Hotz Records and we’re in no way disappointed with this extraordinary and fresh mix. Without further adue, we give you the mix:

“I’m from the resplendent city of Chicago – Founder of the Chicago promotional crew The New Guard and cofounder of the quickly growing music blog trashmenagerie.com. When Discobelle asked me to do a mix for their mixing it up series, I was in the process of digitizing all my favorite records from years past. The process has reminded me of a lot of great tunes that I had completely forgotten about but now seem to be endlessly pertinent to the modern blog house. In this mix I wanted to avoid making just another blog house mix and instead really illustrate apparent similarities of past and present and thereby show the cyclical nature of modern popular culture. I also wanted to fucking bang it out as hard and as fast as possible with as much raw energy as I could muster. It was made on two turntables and Serato. There is absolutely no reason why I called it “Elotes”. Enjoy!

TRACKLIST:

1. Daddy Guts Luciano - Are You Ready For [Kif]

I’ve always wanted to start a mix off with this tune but I never have. And since this is a mix for Discobelle it’s apt to kick it off with some serious disco.

2. Justice feat. Uffie - The Party (LA Riots rmx) [None]

I never thought I’d see the day that I actually played a tune featuring Uffie but those damned LA Riots made it too hard to resist. I’ve been getting all my recent sets going with this one.

3. Wideboys - Feedback (F Lethal 4×4 Mix) [Garage Jams]

Speed Garage, not bassline house. Big ups to Johnny Love for turning me onto this massive bassline track.

4. Danny S - Disappear [Nocturnal]

I actually came across this banger while digitizing my record collection on the b-side of a tune that I’ve played regularly for eons. Pure hectic energy.

5. Armand Van Helden - You Need It [Armed]

This track came from an album series that AvH did a while back chronicling his take on some of his favorite artists from the 80’s (in this case, INXS). The cover has a picture of him as a kid, rocking a wicked rat tail and sweet dirty sanchez.

6. Leonard De Leonard - Leonizer Fever [Ekler'O'Shock]

Some stunning bouncy breaks from this amazingly talented and overshadowed Frenchman. Look out, It gets pretty epic in the second half when the big pads come in to take us home. This ones available for download at trashmenagerie.com BTW.

7. Bobmo - To The Bobmobile [Institubes]

At first I wasn’t too keen on Bobmo but this track has turned out to be one of my most useful in terms of maintaining energy in a set as well as an excellent transition from b-more to 4×4.

8. Cajmere - Horny [Cajual]

Cajmere’s second best ever tune ev4r. For all you yoots out there (particularly you b-more heads), if you haven’t dug up any old Cajmere stuff offa Cajual Records, besides The Percolator, then you are selling your sets short.

9. Jess & Crabbe - The Big Booya [Fiat Lux]

This ones the tune I’ve probably played more than any other, over the years. It’s arguably one of the best first generation French house tunes. My favorite part is the little cut before the beat drops back in after the breakdown.

10. Klaxons - Golden Skans (DJ Icey rmx) [None]

Yes this track is overplayed but I just love the acid line and epicness that Icey has injected into his version. Also, a lot of people seem to have forgotten about DJ Icey (and I just learned from a german friend that many Europeans don’t even know who he is) but he’s still holding strong making incredibly clean and unique breaky tracks that always work on the floor.

11. Dave Spoon - Background Noise [Toolroom Trax]

Throbbing techno from a guy who’s proving himself to one of the true masters of dirty angry sweaty electro. It’s this kinda techno that gives me boners.

12. Audion - The Pong [Ghostly]

Continuing on the techno theme, another throbbing, loopy techno track from one of the true greats in the genre. The best part is about half way in when the track loses its mind and the two synths and the bass become entirely dissonant but seem to work together perfectly to create a driving tension.

13. Dark Globe - Auto-Erotic (Chad North rmx) [trashmenagerie.com]

This one’s a little techno treat remix of a classic breaks tune from my good friend Chad North outta SF. If you want this one, head to trashmenagerie.com to download it exclusively.

14. Acid Jacks - Mookie [Trouble & Bass]

This song frightens the shit out of me.

15. Yo Majesty - Club Action (Stanton Warriors rmx) [None]

Yes this tune has been remixed and replayed to death but one receives an exclusive Stantons remix of anything, one must play it endlessly and this has to be one of the more unique takes on the tune I’ve heard.

16. Deejay Punk Roc - My Beatbox [White]

Classic, Classic, Classic, Classic. One of my favorite tracks of all time. I think it’s the vocoder and the subsonic bass that really does me in on this one. I don’t think there’ll ever be another one like Deejay Punk Roc.

17. Para One - Clubhoppin’ (Small Saul rmx) [None]

Finally someone created a playable version of the best cut offa Para One’s seminal full-length. Edited within an inch of its life this version bangs a bit harder than the original.

18. Fafa Monteco - Vous Voulez De La Musique (Sebastian Leger rmx) [Sculpture]

Saxomophone, Saxomophone. Patrick 122 can’t hold a candle to this French sax classic. One of my all time faves.

19. The Black Ghosts - Any Way You Choose to Give It (Playgroup/Fake Blood rmx) [Southern Fried/None]

This might be the best vocal track of the year and literally every version is fantastic. So fantastic in fact that I had to use two of em in this mix, transitioning from the Baltimore & bass Playgroup remix into the vehemently blog house, Fake blood remix (he’s so hot right now).

20. Groove Armada - Get Down (Elite Force rmx) [Sony]

I am overjoyed that Groove Armada has gone back to creating playable dance music again and it seems like tons of great producers are of the same opinion. In this case it’s the mighty Shack on the remix, metamorphosizing the tune into a brilliant electrohouse banger.

21. DatA - Aerius Light [Naive]

Epic tune!!! The lead is roughly the size of 3 aircraft carriers and has a perfect resolution during the breakdown, just to come back with the original unrelenting riff that takes us out.

22. Bassbin Twins & Mr. No Hands - Adrenaline Ltd. [Diverted Traffic]

Hoooray!!! Big beat’s back!!!!!! I grew up on big beat and I’ve been ranting and raving about how well old big beat works with new electro. And now the one called Bassbin Twins has returned with a new big beat stomper to show the funk still works in the modern scene.

23. Cassius - The Sound Of Violence (Dancefloor Killa rmx) [Virgin]

I missed this tune the first time around and for some reason I have absolutely fallen for it. The way the major vocal works with the minor lead synth really creates a palpable tension and sexual energy that makes you want to lick the sweat off the walls.

24. Pizzaman - Happiness [Loaded]

This track holds a lot of meaning for me. It has been present at many of my most important music/life affirming experiences and has been my favorite closing track since I first heard it in the late 90’s. For those of you who are too young to remember, before there was Fatboy Slim, Norman Cook had large degrees of musical success about 4 times over. First as the bassist of the soul pop band The Housemartins, then with the massive rave pop hit ‘Dub Be Good to Me’ by Beats International, then with underground electronic funk band, Freak Power (their big hits were “Tune In, Turn On, Cop Out” and “No Way”) and finally under the moniker, Pizzaman, he really honed the sound that would become Big Beat and drive him to superstardom. This one was pinnacle of that sound.”

Mixin’ It Up: Don Rimini parte deux

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

One of our favorite people, parisian producer/dj Xavier Gassemann aka Don Rimini, decided to grace us with another mix. He did a stellar Mixin’ It Up back in february and since we liked it so much here’s a new, equally stellar, hard hitting mix (along with some bonus goodies) for you all to enjoy. Now, let the man himself do the presentation:

TRACKLIST:

“KW Griff - The Force

My favorite Baltimore track of the moment. Perfect intro. The dark side of the Force. Naaamean?

D.I.M - Frogger

I think I slightly prefer d.i.m ’s productions to Boys Noize’s. Why? ‘Cause there’s this (dark-side-of-the-force) irregular structure of the synthetizers. But d.i.m and Boyz Noise share the same secret: how to turn the crowds on!

Fatboy Slim - Love Island

I love big beat. Especially when its brought to us by the Master himself! Nostalgic sequency guaranteed! God bless Norman Cook!

Justin Timberlake - Love Stoned (Justice remix)

Frenchies are everywhere, for the best and for the worst…! But Xavier and Gaspard’s reassert they are the kings of the dancefloors, with this amazing remix. Thank you guys!

Roger Seventy Two - Paris Chic

The Dutch are on the top list too, in the person of this guy, Roger Seventy Two. I reckon we’ll be hearing a lot from him in the future. His tracks and remixes are incredible, especially in the way his synthetizers sound. Big up Roger!

Switch - Bricknlace

To me, more than a style between crunk-house and glitch-rave, Switch has become a real trademark! The basslines are huge. I love it.

Kate Wax - Catch The Buzz (Surkin remix)

Surkin: everything he touches turns to gold, so don‘t hesitate go and buy this EP released by Mental Groove. Benoît, you are scissor’s master: cut, cut, and it kicks ass!

Don Rimini - Sumo And Geishas

Who’s this guy? The “pizza-man” getting inspiration from the rising sun? It’s up to you to say if it there’s enough spicy oil?!!!?

John Dahlbäck - Now It’s Not Summer

By the way, weather’s crap in France at the moment. In particular in Paris; that’s where I live. A crazy and schizophrenic track, reminds me of Paul Woolford’s “Erotic discourse”.

Human Resource Vs 808 State - Dominator Vs Cubik (Soulwax Renominator Mix)

Back to rave! The Belgian brothers bring these two rave classics back to live, for our biggest pleasure.

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Guns N Bombs remix)

The best remixers of the moment! I’m impressed with the saturated sound of guitars and synthetisers. This remix I chose is a fine example of it.

MMMM

I found this track in my old vinyl collection. It’s a sort of white label that was sleeping under a pile of records. “Why didn’t I come across it sooner?”

Dima - Poetry (Shit Again mix)

To me, this is Vitalic’s first hit, under his first name: “Dima”. A banger from the 90ies, don’t you think? “And if you do not agree with me, shit, shit and shit again!”

Brodinski - Bad Runner (Original version)

A track named after such a good movie couldn’t be but a hit!

Shitdisco - Ok (Yuksek remix)

This guy (Yuksek) knows his machines to perfection and uses them with maestria. The tracks and remixes of this Frenchie are so finely produced, they are bound to become classics.

Terry Poison - Ballroom (remixed by datA)

1- Terry Poison girls sing in both English and French, and they have as much fun on stage as in everyday life! On this EP you also find a remix by myself. 2 - Data is a killer!

Nsm Psm - Clap Your Brains Off! (Plus Move remix)

Nice melody, radical bassline, but most of all, a good transaction to faster or harder tracks.

Radioclit - Nelly Ti Picou

I’m fond of this remix of Nelly Furtado, so fresh. Halfway between booty and baile funk. Radioclit rules!

Gogo Charlton - Your Son (Don Rimini remix)

The magical encounter of a pop-rock band and the “pizza-man”. I love myself ! :)

E dancer - Grab The Beat (Joey Beltram remix)

This primary bass melody was fatal to me in the 90ies. In all these years, it’s has never let go of me, so simple and efficient. A classic!!

Clor - Good Stuff

It sounds like booty at first, and then you realise this is a damned good pop anthem.”

Mixin’ It Up: Devlin & Pretty Titty

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Finally! We’re really excited about this mix from Chris Devlin (of Spank Rock fame) and Pretty Titty. It could seriously be one of the best mixes we’ve heard in a long time, if you’ve stumbled upon any other mixes from the Spank Rock camp like Voila, Couche-Tard and the Fabriclive mix CD you’ll know what to expect, ie a mix of old gems, funky shit, new bangers and with tight as hell mixing. There’s so many things going on in this mix and on more than one occasion upon listening to it our jaws dropped to the floor in amazement. These guys truly set the bar. You all need to grab this! Now we’ll let the dj’s do the talking, on to the mix:

“This is a mix for the trip. It’s for driving down RT.1, I83, I95, or even the Autobahn with all its traffic jams and ausfahrts. It’s for biking downtown to meet up for a late breakfast and some morning booze. Fuck it, put it on your Ipod and jog to the club. It’s the sound track to the introspective morning after and the preparation for the night to come. I like to listen to it with headphones. It’s called Sink or Swim cause Titty got evicted and I was pretty broke.

This Mix was more like a Project for me, its alot of fucking around with samples, edits and effects and panning and small remixes and original beats. I wanted to do alot of layering and overdubbing and making it sound as cool and as wierd as possible. I also wanted to include alot of projects that i have worked on as well, therefore this is not a live mix or a reflection of a night at the club (if you wanna hear live mixes contact me @ myspace.com/mrdevlin1. I have recordings of good and bad nights in the booth!!!! They’re all out there on the web).

The mix is part me at home having a good time working on shit, and part thinking about life on the road in the summer. My part of the mix seemed like it needed another point of view, so i invited Pretty Titty from Seattle to do the second half. I really respect Clayton’s (Pretty Titty) taste and music and i have been impressed with the way his djing has evolved since we’ve been doin things together.

TRACKLIST:

Part1.. DEVLIN
At the Royal Castle, we always use these two fucked up Superman records to make our mixtapes, so this dialogue intro sample was a reference to that.

Love away from me…LCD Soundsystem

I don’t even know if this song has a real name, I should have made a phone call. But man all the dj’s i know either chopped this thing out of the LCD Nike 44:33 mix or play it straight off the mix. Anyway it was a favorite song for the SpankRock crew for a while. You could catch XXXchange or Pase or I dropping it religiously from last fall to early this spring…. these are the tracks i mixed in on top of the LCD track..

((Date With The Rain - Eddie Kendricks

I mixed this because it’s one of my newly discovered favorite songs and it fit perfectly with the rain dialouge.

Like This - Chip E
Donnie - The IT
Get The Hoe - Gangsters of Freestyle

I put these tracks in because they reminded me of what LCD might have been going for with their track.

Love on a Summer Night - The McRays))

Summer mix. summer love, C’mon. snuck in the “summer breeze” seals and croft too.

Ladybug - Bumblebee Unlimited (Larry Levan mix)

Man, another track i was really late on, I got this song a couple of years ago in a big folder from a friend and never got into it until the begining of this year. I have to say it’s completely amazing, it seemed to fit well with the LCD track too. had to lay some extra bee samples and enviromental noises in.

Take it Easy - Amanda Blank & M.I.A

This is a track that Amanda and M.I.A did with XXXchange. It’s a real early version so the recording is mad rough but for its use here i thought it was pretty cool.

More Fun To Re Edit - Mr Devlin

This is a re edit I was working on that is not really a re edit just a short beat that i made with a really tweaked out sample of Kraftwerk’s “More Fun to Compute”.. It’s got a four on the floor inro, which is pretty empty. Here I layered a bunch of recordings i did of all the sounds out of my windows in my apartment. School is out for summer so there are alot of kids hanging out in the alley and in the street. I also put in Summer Song - Chad and Jeremy its a really dope song…if you lisen closely you can also hear some of Love’s “Hummingbirds”….After this intro comes the tweaked out sample break, then it goes into a more club type vibe, this were I threw the very spartan and very dope

Comfy In Nautica - Panda Bear

I really like this album and this song in particular .. its erie and beautiful. so i had to try a remix because the pace is do ripe for it. It came out ok … the O G is so good , go buy the album

Comfy in Nautica (Mr.Devlin’s Jamaica Plain Humpbacks Remix) - Panda Bear

My attempt to remix this track.. I used alot wierd underwater bass noises and for this mix i layed alot of whale noises over the track as well… i dont know mannn… I know that Noah is a Panda Bear but i the whales sounded good and kept the ocean summer vibe alive. I extended the outro and went into the smooth…

Sexy MF (clean version) - Pase Rock & Amanda Blank

This track is sexy motherfucker! Pase and Amanda with XXX on the beat. Summer jump off. I like the clean version, any clean version with good sound effects beats the dirty version hands up, thumbs down. I only used two verses for the sake of time. i then go into…

Biting Strafe on Acid/The 40 years after interlude - Mr Devlin

I made most of this beat on the train from my new home in Boston to my native Baltimore. I structured it after Strafe’s ” Set it off”.. I used it here so i could add some more wierd samples and thangs into the mix. you hear in the background….Bob Marley’s “Reaction” and the demo version of Love’s “Hummingbird” which came out in ‘67 I think you know the Summer of Love mannnn. Oh no here comes a live scratched in mix , it’s…..

Theme from Police Woman - Henry Mancini

This track is really great, good horns and really dramatic. Masta Killa sampled it. I put the accapella of just my imagination over it because that seems like a good get high in the daytime summer song.

Instructions, Oohs and Ahhs - George Roberts feat. The Neighborhood Kids

Here is a little more neighborhood recordings and an interlude i’ve been working on with the drums from Funk” by Mecco. I like albums with breaks and wierd shit in them this is some of that. from here I go into….

Let’s Finish What We Started (XXXChange and Mr.Devlin’s Italo remix) - Kudu

I have always been impressed when i see Kudu. They are dope. The fellas hold down the chops and Sylvia’s voice and stage presence are commanding. So when Alexxx said you wanna work on this remix i was pumped. We flipped an Italo sample, broke out the poly six and went to work. I came back a few days later and Alex had replaced the original vocals we had (processed) and switched them to these raw vocals. It was exactly what the song needed and we were done. This song isnt so great for a home listen but it is real nice with club speakers.

This is Sick - Switch

I was doing this dramatic ass mix with these two songs on a tour Ron and I did with Pretty Titty this May. So I figured i would put it in here. I think it works pretty well and everybody bugs out when the square ass big bass drops. You got to get out quick though so i would then throw in this next track for more drama.

Roll it, Light it, Smoke it (xxxChange, Devlin, Darko Fully Fitted Remix) - DJ Class

We all had this idea after “Show me what you got” came out. Make a club beat with the “Shaft in Africa” horns. Pase and I were gonna do it, we didn’t. Chipset and I were gonna do it, we didn’t. Well, Scottie B was looking for remixes for an upcoming release so the Fully Fitted crew got it done. It was a 9 AM session.

Lupita (XXXChange and Mr Devlin’s Ferrari Session) - Tito Puente

Made this at the Royal Castle one afternoon with Alexxx, it was a fun little session and i never used it so i figured this was as good a time as any… I put the “Te Mo Ba” by No Nos over it as well

Jungle Fever (Mr Devlin’s Rapture is coming re-edit) - Chakachas

I was just looking for the next piece of this project so i opened the industry respected Garage Band and fucked around for a few hours…this is the result. The vocals are courtesy of DJ David Day..I dont know where its from but this dude is on some dramatic lake of fire shit!!!

Baltimore in June (Outro) - Chipset and Mr.Devlin

This is so unfinished and Chip hates me for including it but, I was having such amazing times going back home and this pretty little begining of a track really summed up the early summer in Baltimore for me. Take it a way PRETTY TITEEEEEEEEEEEE….and don’t talk as much as me!

Part 2…PRETTY TITTY

Intro - Pretty Titty

This is primarily a Phantom Slasher re-edit of Eat the Jeans but there’s also some pieces of the instrumental for Radio Clash, a little Hip Hop Be Bop, some Spankrock, and Moonboots by the Orlanda Riva Sound thrown in to keep it spiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiicy!

Serious Trouble - Zongamin

I love Zongamin! Bongo Song can be the best thing ever but I can’t play that forever. True story: I played Bongo Song at Safari Sam’s in LA and some older hippy character in a wetsuit freaked out so hard that he got yoked and dragged right out of the club. I remember thinking to myself “Oh yeah! Bongos. Duh!” I haven’t played that song since then out of fear that my estranged hippy father might pop out of a storm drain and make the whole experience happen all over again.

Optimo - Liquid Liquid

I am a rabid Liquid Liquid fan. The way the bassline just repeats the same three notes in different patterns over and over, building up til it all breaks with dudes voice hanging over the end. I LOVE IT!!!! Musical genius

Me Mobile (Duckbeats Ringtone Riddim)- Vybz, Jesse Rose, Sinden

What’s cooler than a combination of all three of these guys?

D.A.N.C.E. (Eli & Diplo Mix) - Justice

This is, in my opinion, the only playable version of this song. The original is too slow, the other remixes are ho-hum. Eli kiiiiiiiiills it again.

Put Your Hands Up For NY - Party Crashers Unite (Trouble & Bass)

Rock the Casbah / Club Action (Pretty Titty Re-Edit) - The Clash / Yo Majesty

I really never get tired of hearing Rock the Casbah. I can always close my eyes and vividly remember the video with the sheik running around with a boombox which is what I picture my Arab hipster friend Ahmad would be doing if he lived in the middle east instead of Seattle.

E Talking - Soulwax

It’s so weird that these guys are brothers. Who likes hanging out with their brother THAT much?

If Ever I Feel Better, I’ll Go To The Disco (Buffalo Bunch, Pretty Tittty Re-edit) - Phoenix

Guy - Manuel’s (Daft Punk) brother made this remix. I chopped it up and rearranged it a little to make it better suited for a quick play.

I Love Club Music (Pretty Titty Re-edit) - Ms Thang

My wife’s favorite song ever. It’s also the perfect song to play after someone asks you to play more hip hop.

Feeling For You - Cassius

This song was huge at the Tunnel in like 1998. Haha! How do I know that?

Beeper - Sinden

I have a friend from Alabama who literally loses his mind every time this song comes on. They still use beepers in Alabama, that’s why I think.

Let’s Go Swimming - Arthur Russell

This whole mix started out for the Pool Party Tour that Chris Devlin, Ronnie Darko, & myself went on in May. We jumped the gun a little and only made it into one pool but other than the lack of swimmable water it was pretty amazing. We listened to a lot of Panda Bear, which strongly reminds me of that Arthur Russell record World of Echo which has the original Let’s Go Swimming on it. This is the Walter Gibbon’s mix.

Mixin’ It Up: Zombie Disco Squad

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Mixin’ It Up is back! And the first mix after our brief summer hiatus is this excellent mix from the boys in Zombie Disco Squad. Here’s what they had to say about it:

“The Zombie Disco Squad are Nathaniel Hollywood and Lucas Hunter, both hail from South London and the Brixton area. The two have been Djing across Europe for the last two years, their mixes place particular emphasis on bass heavy, jacking productions. They currently have their residency ‘Get Rude’ which takes place every second Saturday at the intimate settings of The Catch Bar in London (www.myspace.com/getrudeinthedisco), the night mixes Ghetto House, Electro, Booty Bass, Fidget House, Baile Funk and Baltimore Club. Watch out for their new productions and remixes out later this year. You can catch them at the Creamfields, Global Gathering and Field Day festivals this year.

With the ‘Flashback’ mix we wanted to make a mix that covered a few genres whilst remaining jacking at all times. The mix builds slowly from Classic Chicago House through Baltimore, Baile Funk, Fidget House and ends up with big room, peak time electro. The mix represents the importance we place on building a set from start to finish and being able to warm up and create a mood. We hope you like it……”

TRACKLIST:

Jesse Saunders - On and On (vocal mix)

Jesse’s song presents a perfect intro track, the long intro and hypnotic bass provides a slow build to the rest of the mix. More importantly we wanted to work some classic Chicago into the mix, the genre is often over looked.

Kw Griff - Cool

Prince + Baltimore Club = tears of joy. KW Griff is one of our favourite Baltimore Club producers, he manages to construct tracks from a few simple hooks that still bang.

Purple Crush – Shopping on the dancefloor (Krames Remix)

90’s House is a guilty pleasure of ours. Krames takes the original back to the days of Robyn S adds a little Bmore magic and stuttered vocals, the result acts as a great transition to the next stage of the mix.

Edu-K - Gatas Gatas Gatas

No mix is complete without Edu K, he is one of our favourite dudes ever. We saw him perform in London earlier this year, he spent half of the performance lying on the floor in between some lucky girls legs. Watch out for our remix of his ‘Rave Zombie’ tracks, coming soon.

Neurotico 24: Agente Fura

Baile Funk is one of the rawest types of music ever, this track makes us want to do backspins. We are working on a techno version of this track.

Foals - Hummer (Surkin Remix)

If New Rave was true to its name then this would be the epitome of it all. Small Surkin makes big songs and heavy hooks, the track comes complete with horns, cut up vocals and the Think break. Its our favourite thing he has done to date. It also provides the ramp to the next phase of the JACK-ATTACK!

Clark Able - Lemon Head

The Crookers put us onto Clark, fresh Italian talent. This track sounds like Flat Eric’s fidgety brother. Bad bassline!

The Bulgarian - Lovely Bounce

Dimitre produces wonky, jacking house, he is definitely one to look out for in the future . This track takes samples from original African chants and singing and places them over a huge bassline and off kilter percussion. Tribal house anyone?

Justice - Waters of Nazareth (Blisscotheque Edit)

Blisscotheque take a very glitchy and stuttered song and make it dancefloor and DJ friendly by the use of Ghetto samples, super hi hats and the Washing Up beat. We probably wouldn’t have revisited this track for another year or so, but this edit is so good we couldn’t pass it up.

DJ Slugo - Shake that Ass

This track provides a break in the mix, the original is around 145bpm, slowed down it turns into a mad Ghetto House masterpiece. DJ Slugo makes nasty, raw sex music which we love very much.

Robosonic - Die Verwandlung (Jesse Rose Remix)

Mr Jesse Rose has a real talent of combining the Dubsided sound with a little minimal magic, the two end up really complimenting each other. Watch out for the big stabs that made us jack our faces off.

Olav Basoski - Push_Me

Stuttered Jay-Z samples, squeaky hooks, off kilter hats, sharp snares and rumbling kicks make for an amazing track that moves the mix from wonky fidget to 4/4 electro goodness.

Glitter Queen - Gail In Then O (John Acquaviva Damon Jee Remix)

Progressive house has always been a dirty word in the Zombie household, however, this song takes elements of progressive and makes it into a excellent slow building electro house banger. The synth latches on to our arms, head and legs forcing rhythmatic movements and wild jerks. Pow!

Outlander - The Vamp (Kevin Gorman remix)

Another in a long list of songs that are going back to old rave stabs, it provides the perfect big anthem to end the mix.

Love in no particular order outro

We have wanted to make this for a while. It is in no way representative of any ‘scene’ as such (if it were, there would be a lot of dudes left out), it just name checks our friends and peers…..

BONUS: Here’s a Discobelle exclusive of a track from The Bulgarian that features Spoek from Sweat X (it was written about Zombie Disco Squad). The track will be the b-side to the single ‘The Other Door’ out on Potty Mouth Music soon.

Mixin’ it up: Cousin Cole

Friday, May 25th, 2007

We have been waiting for this mix for a while but it has been worth the wait. Now you get a mix from Cousin Cole this Friday and you get him live in Malmö at our Distortion party next Friday. We gonna tear the roof down! Don’t’ miss out!

Let’s hand it over to our favourite cousin:

“This mix isn’t about educating people or showing off my record
collection (or mp3 “collection”). It’s just a bunch of dope songs
that make me want to dance, put together sort of like a condensed
version of a set I might do. Even though I put a lot of work into
selection and sequencing, all the mixing is recorded live from two
turntables. I wish more people would do their shit live; these
Ableton or overdubbed mixes leave me pretty cold.

So anyway, I mixed it live in one take, except for the last mix,
which I had to rerecord. There’s a little clipping because I have a
terrible mixer, and there are a couple of mixes that could’ve been a
little tighter (no trainwrecks though), but I think it’s pretty good
for fitting 23 tracks in less than 36 minutes with lots of long
blends. Also I had a problem with the recording so there’s 2 spots
where you’ll hear a little glitch, but they’re almost unnoticeable.

Enjoy!!”

Download Cousin Cole - Mixin It Up Live for Discobelle (zShare)

Cousin Cole Mixin it Up Live for Discobelle tracklist:

Moodymann - Technology Stole My Vinyle
I figured this would be a great way to start the mix off. This is
brand new genius material from Kenny Dixon, Jr.

Daniel Wang - Like a Dream I Can’t Stop Dreaming
I wanted to play some early night type records, the kind of songs
that people will dance to without ever having heard them before.
Disco is the king!

In Flagranti - Business Acumen
I’m jealous of these guys. They’re making pretty great music, and it
sounds a little different from what anyone else is doing. I like to
think it’s a New York thing.

Ost & Kjex - Milano Mongolian (A Thrilling Mungophony In Two Parts)
This is actually a Mungolian Jetset remix of Milano Model. Like it
says, it’s in two parts, and I just used the second part (the whole
track’s more than 11 minutes long!)

Moodymann - Inspiration From a Small Black Church on the East Side of Detroit
I used this to transition to some housier songs. I also thought it
would make sense to go from this into the Roland Clark, since they’re
both about God and all.

Roland Clark - God is Good (DJ Spen Dub)
I really love spiritual house music. This is one of my favorite
tracks from last year. DJ Spen makes music to play in the club, and
he’s from Baltimore, but this is definitely not Baltimore Club.

Cousin Cole - Zing Boom (Demo)
This is a remix I just did. I think it’s pretty good but the drums
and some of the other sounds need some work. I’m not going to say
what it’s a remix of, so maybe it’ll be more exciting when you hear
it. Check it out though.

Fedde Le Grand - Put Your Hands Up for Detroit
Yeah, this has been out for a while, but so many of my actual friends
(not dj-friends) are going to be psyched to hear it. Besides, I made
up a little blend (see below) that fits pretty nicely, and I really
wanted to play it here. I edited this a little because I think it
takes too long between the breakdowns.

Blaqstarr - Hands Up Thumbs Down
Thank you Serato loop feature!!

Simian - Never Be Alone
I’m one of those assholes who’s been playing the Justice remix
forever and is totally sick of it. I actually started playing the
original instead of the remix about a year ago, before most people
here were playing the remix (I’m so cool right?). It was a bitch to
get the 45 of this from Europe when I didn’t use Serato. Things done
changed, I guess.

Alter Ego - Rocker
This is a couple years old, but I’ve never heard anyone play it out
in New York (maybe this says more about where I go than anything
else). It’s still an awesome song, and maybe even ahead of it’s time.

DJ Class - Tear Da Club Up
Oh man, another song everyone’s probably sick of. Whatever; this is a
king among songs, and I don’t think I’m going to get tired of playing
it. I hate when DJs play it before they’ve really had a chance to
“rock this bitch” — am I supposed to tear the club up for you or the
guy who just played before you?

Cousin Cole ft. Notorious BIG - Where Brooklyn At
This is a synthesis of ideas from Griff & Booman (Pick Em Up) and DJ
Mister Cee (Where Brooklyn At), but it’s not really a mashup. Maybe
you could call it an interpolation. I wanted to throw in that SWV
“Right Here” response too, but I couldn’t get it to where I liked it.
The sound quality is pretty shitty, but I don’t really care. Raw dog!!

Rod Lee - Star Track
This is like three great club songs in one, but for this mix you only
get to hear two of them. So go find the real thing!

Mr. Oizo - Patrick 122 (Extended Saxophone Edit)
BLOG HOUSE!! This shit is funky as hell. The saxophone sounds like
it’s trying to play slower but the drums keep whipping it into shape.

Diddy - Get Off (DJ Booman mix)
This track is so great. It makes me retroactively love everything
Puffy’s ever done. And Booman is making some of the best club music
I’ve heard lately. (I think I kind of fucked up the mix into this;
sorry.)

Cousin Cole ft. Jocelyn Brown - Why Waste Your Time (Demo)
This is a new club track I made from Jocelyn Brown’s “Love’s Gonna
Get You” acapella and inspired by Bizarre Inc.’s “Why Waste Your
Time.” Dumb and simple. The kick drums sound like shit here. I guess
I played it too loud.

Timbaland ft. Keri Hilson & DOE - Way I Are (Cousin Cole’s Unwound Mix)
Man, I’m SO happy with this remix. I feel like an asshole for saying
it, but I really love it — I’ve probably listened to it about 40
times since I made it a week ago. If you didn’t guess, the samples
are chopped from Marva Whitney’s “Unwind Yourself” (the original
source for Mark the 45 King’s “The 900 Number,” itself the source for
DJ Kool’s “Let Me Clear My Throat.”) I feel like this could be on Hot
97… Someone make it happen!

Cousin Cole - More Models
This is my remix of “Make it Rain (Remix).” I didn’t let it play past
the first chorus, but let me just say I love R Kelly on this song!

MIA - Bird Flu (Guns Up Buraka version)
Got this off the Mad Decent website. I prefer the original, but I
think this one hits a little harder and it’s easier to mix. MIA’s new
album is shaping up to be amazing.

Wes Fif ft. BOB - Haterz Everywhere (Cousin Cole Remix)
My remix isn’t too different from the original, but I think it’s cool
anyway. I was trying to go for an Ed Banger-y overdriven bass sound
but I don’t know if it really came out. You’ll be pleased to know
that it’s still a rap song (I didn’t give it a dance beat except in
the intro). I edited out the second verse just to move along more
quickly.

Allez Allez - African Queen (Quiet Village remix)
And then we come down…

Noosha Fox - The Heat is On
This is a nice oddball summer song by the singer of “SSSingle
bed” (Fluxblog I see you!) I think this might be considered Balearic
or Cosmic or something or maybe it’s too weird and poppy.

Mixin’ It Up: Krazy Fiesta

Friday, May 18th, 2007

We’re taking it back to Sweden for this weeks Mixin’ It Up, our friends in Krazy Fiesta did a killer job on this and we’re very proud to present their mix.

“Krazyfiesta, the three musketeers of truth, based in Gothenburg, spawn of Västmanland. We welcome you to the musical journey that is Fiesta Dreamz! We start of with at the bouncy 80s and 90s moving forward to the present electro disco day. Sprinkled with a large dose of Krazy Fiesta fun! This summer you can dance to the KF-soundsystem at The Glory Boat in Gothenburg, together with among others Vicarious Bliss, Beta Boy and Glory Crew. And DO NOT miss us at The Rumble in Malmö this Saturday!”

TRACKLIST:

01. Bel Viv DeVoe – Poison

This musical journey begins with this great track with a magic drumline!

02. Rocker’s Revenge ft Donnie Calvin – Walking on Sunshine

This is how we feel while we’re walking down the streets in GBG. Love the keys in this one!

03. Feist – Sea Lion (Chromeo remix)

Wonder what Nina Simone would have thought about the vocal sample used in this one. We love it though.

04. Inner City – Big Fun

This is a real house classic, but nothing’s too sacred for Krazyfiesta.

05. Krazyfiesta vs. Erlend Öye – Fiesta Trains

Erlend Öye and Morgan Geist’s mellow song interpretated by us. Never heard online before!

06. Mr. Lee – Get Busy

A favourite track from one of our favourite childhood albums, Mega Rap from 1994. Rap house!

07. The Yorshire Rapper – Put Our Heads Together

There’s more to music than electro, like this killer masterpiece of good vibes.

08. Treasure Fingers – Cross The Dancefloor

One of the best new songs we’ve come over lately!

09. Juvelen – Watch Your Step (KF RMX)

Our instant classic-remix of the Juvelen track! (Watch out for the 12”!)

10. Yelle – Ce Jeu (Them Jeans edit)

There’s nothing like a sweet french electro pop hit to tell you it’s spring time!

11. Cerrone – Love in ‘C’ minor

Now it’s time to speed things up a bit with this nasty pre-house track.

12. Larry Tee ft. Princess Superstar - Licky (Herve Goes Low Remix)

This track really has got a little bit of everything in it, at least everything that kills the dance floors. When the music stops and Princess Superstar sings “L. I. Licky. C. K. Licky. Y…”, you just know the floor will explode when the bass hits again.

13. Bassnectar - Yo (Speaker Junk’s Jackin Brazilian Rave Remix)

Another club banger, we’re not usualy too fond of the latin rhythm, but this one really is irresistable.

14. Roy Ayers - Sugar

Unexpected guest appearence in this musical context but still: a great track by a great man.

15. Yo Majesty - Club Action (Tetsuo’s All Out Yo!-mix)

The internet is overflowing with remixes of this joint, but it’s actually refreshing to hear this a bit more mature sound. But still: dance floor material.

16.The Faint - I Disappear (Matthew Savant Remix)

Electro remixes of indie rock song is a whole big genre, which is only good tap into when you feel like a getting that Caucasian vibe, which is not that often.

17. Krazyfiesta – Never Zkared

The mix is coming to it’s end with this fiesta medley! Our electronic hit version of Bone Chrusher’s track.

18. Krazyfiesta – Lip Gloss Remix

Our latest club banger, famous throughout the world!

19. Leila K – Open Sesame (Final Exit Remix)

This is from the golden year of ’92! We were 7 years old when it was released.

20. Krazyfiesta – Stilletto Pumps It Up

Finally, we end this musical adventure with our interpretation of this modern classic.

Mixin’ It Up: Them Jeans

Friday, April 27th, 2007

We’ve enjoyed his edits for quite some time now and he’s killing it over in L.A, so now we proudly present the Them Jeans Discobelle mix. Here he is:

“My Name is Them Jeans. I live in Los Angeles, and do a Tuesday night party at a club called Cinespace, with a guy named Steve Aoki. Everyone I know gets music off Discobelle, so I’m happy to have a mix up…..”

TRACKLIST:

1. Crystal Castles - “Trash Hologram
A good way to get things started off extra zelda-y.
2. Lloyd - “Get it Shawty” (T-Wrecks Bmore Mix)
My girlfriend likes this song wayyyy more than I do, but it seemed to match well with the following track…
3. Yuksek - “Composer”
I’ve liked this track for a long time now, but I never really played it out.. I also cut out the ” let’s start again ” part and went straight into it..
4. Kid Sister “Pro Nails”
I just played my favorite part of the song, which features dude from the next track.
5. Project Pat “I ain’t goin back to jail”
This song sounds like it could have been made 10 years ago.. Pat at his finest.
6. T.I. “Big Shit Poppin”
I play the instrumental a bit before the actual song kicks in… apparently T.I.’s new smash… I don’t know if I totally like it yet, but in a few months it will.
7. ARROW !!! - “Does” (Breakbot’s Remix)
I wanted to have something that would sound dope under the Pase Rock song..I think I found it.
8. Pase Rock / Amanda Blank “Sexy MF ” (Eli Remix)
Really think this song sounds cool…. both pase and amanda kill it…very next level shit..plus anything Eli touches, turns to gold.
9. Mr. Oizo - “Trina700″ (Trina Kills Xtended Edit)
I love the little sounds My. Oizo uses, that nobody else would really think to flip. I slowed it down at the end to lay under the next track.
10. Dat Boy Aim - “This My Year” (Acapella)
My buddy Desert Eagles floated this my way…it’s the feel good myspace trap song of 2007.
11. Ratatat ” Track 4 ” (Ratatat Beats)
I dunno where I found this instrumental tack…but I’ll put Ratatat under anything in the club and it just always works.
12. Yelle “Ce Jeu” (Them Jeans Edit)
A lot of girls like this song… sorry dudes. At least you do get a manly Pase Rock drop and the beginning..
13. Justice - “D.A.N.C.E.” (tvbrandy remix)
It seems like alot of people don’t want to play D.A.N.C.E. anymore, but this remix breathes some new life into it. (It sucks to say that about a song that has not even been released yet?), maybe it has, I don’t know.
14. Huey - “Pop Lock & Drop it” (Acapella)
I think this is a perfect song for the club, plus his name is Huey.
15. Daft Punk - “Da Funk” (Thunderous Olympians this mix)
Also a perfect song for the club.
16. DJ Khaled “We Takin’ Over” (Instrumental)
I think this beat is insane..that’s why I just played the inst. But on the real track, T.I. sounds very good over it.
17. Peter Bjorn & John - “Let’s Call it Off”
How could I make an internet mix in 2007 without putting these dudes on it.. I really like the beginning of the song.. it’s very dramatic.
18. Armand Van Helden - “Touch your Toes” (Stretch Armstrong Remix)
Stretch took a really good track and added just enough to make it better.
19. Bloc Party - “I still remember” (Instrumental)
For some reason I really like this song.. you definitely won’t catch me on the street bumping this shit, but if the video comes on TV, I probably won’t change it. And for some crazy reason, Benzi has all them instrumentals.
20. Crime Mob - “Rock Yo Hips” (Acapella)
A dude says ” Goddamn, lil buddy touch your toes”. So I had to put it at the end.
