Mixin’ It Up: Them Jeans

Friday, April 27th, 2007

We’ve enjoyed his edits for quite some time now and he’s killing it over in L.A, so now we proudly present the Them Jeans Discobelle mix. Here he is:

“My Name is Them Jeans. I live in Los Angeles, and do a Tuesday night party at a club called Cinespace, with a guy named Steve Aoki. Everyone I know gets music off Discobelle, so I’m happy to have a mix up…..”

TRACKLIST:

1. Crystal Castles - “Trash Hologram
A good way to get things started off extra zelda-y.
2. Lloyd - “Get it Shawty” (T-Wrecks Bmore Mix)
My girlfriend likes this song wayyyy more than I do, but it seemed to match well with the following track…
3. Yuksek - “Composer”
I’ve liked this track for a long time now, but I never really played it out.. I also cut out the ” let’s start again ” part and went straight into it..
4. Kid Sister “Pro Nails”
I just played my favorite part of the song, which features dude from the next track.
5. Project Pat “I ain’t goin back to jail”
This song sounds like it could have been made 10 years ago.. Pat at his finest.
6. T.I. “Big Shit Poppin”
I play the instrumental a bit before the actual song kicks in… apparently T.I.’s new smash… I don’t know if I totally like it yet, but in a few months it will.
7. ARROW !!! - “Does” (Breakbot’s Remix)
I wanted to have something that would sound dope under the Pase Rock song..I think I found it.
8. Pase Rock / Amanda Blank “Sexy MF ” (Eli Remix)
Really think this song sounds cool…. both pase and amanda kill it…very next level shit..plus anything Eli touches, turns to gold.
9. Mr. Oizo - “Trina700″ (Trina Kills Xtended Edit)
I love the little sounds My. Oizo uses, that nobody else would really think to flip. I slowed it down at the end to lay under the next track.
10. Dat Boy Aim - “This My Year” (Acapella)
My buddy Desert Eagles floated this my way…it’s the feel good myspace trap song of 2007.
11. Ratatat ” Track 4 ” (Ratatat Beats)
I dunno where I found this instrumental tack…but I’ll put Ratatat under anything in the club and it just always works.
12. Yelle “Ce Jeu” (Them Jeans Edit)
A lot of girls like this song… sorry dudes. At least you do get a manly Pase Rock drop and the beginning..
13. Justice - “D.A.N.C.E.” (tvbrandy remix)
It seems like alot of people don’t want to play D.A.N.C.E. anymore, but this remix breathes some new life into it. (It sucks to say that about a song that has not even been released yet?), maybe it has, I don’t know.
14. Huey - “Pop Lock & Drop it” (Acapella)
I think this is a perfect song for the club, plus his name is Huey.
15. Daft Punk - “Da Funk” (Thunderous Olympians this mix)
Also a perfect song for the club.
16. DJ Khaled “We Takin’ Over” (Instrumental)
I think this beat is insane..that’s why I just played the inst. But on the real track, T.I. sounds very good over it.
17. Peter Bjorn & John - “Let’s Call it Off”
How could I make an internet mix in 2007 without putting these dudes on it.. I really like the beginning of the song.. it’s very dramatic.
18. Armand Van Helden - “Touch your Toes” (Stretch Armstrong Remix)
Stretch took a really good track and added just enough to make it better.
19. Bloc Party - “I still remember” (Instrumental)
For some reason I really like this song.. you definitely won’t catch me on the street bumping this shit, but if the video comes on TV, I probably won’t change it. And for some crazy reason, Benzi has all them instrumentals.
20. Crime Mob - “Rock Yo Hips” (Acapella)
A dude says ” Goddamn, lil buddy touch your toes”. So I had to put it at the end.

Friday, March 2nd, 2007

This weeks Mixin’ it up is from our boy Dre Skull. He took some time off from working on his followup 12″ with Juiceboxxx to make this mix for you all.

“This is a somewhat varied collection of music I enjoy. Though it wasn’t a guiding idea when I started this mix, I can hear a unifying theme of restrained simplicity in many of these tracks. As a producer, I find this compelling as it is a quality I strive for in my own work. If anyone’s lookin for tracks holla atcha boy!!!

Mixin’ it up: Don Rimini

Friday, February 16th, 2007

We’re staying in Europe for this next part of the Mixin’ it up series, our Parisian buddy Don Rimini blew us away with the track “Let me back up” which came out last year and it has brought down a storm when we’ve played it at our dj-nights. It was about time he did a mix for us so enjoy this and don’t forget to pick up his new 12inch “Time to panic”. On to the mix:

“Don Rimini, improved partying. This guy went to rave parties back in the 90ies. It follows that: His music stinks like a club dancefloor at 3am. Maybe with a hip hop touch then? Cause this guy´s also been into hip hop a lot. Xavier Gassemann, this 30-year-old Parisien also known as Don Rimini. From hip hop to techno, this is the true story of a real DJ in Selectorland, of a vinyl maniac fond of melting Techno, Hip Hop, Ghetto House, Rock and Pop together. You can rest assured that Don Rimini has been a playlist agitator since ‘98, and today he’s releasing his first own record, « TIME TO PANIC », 4 tracks that will get the shyest chap around on his feet and dancing. His music’s like plugging a strobe to your Nintendo joystick, over-inflating your pair of limited Air Max edition, or swallowing the disco-ball !!! But why “Don Rimini”, you ask. Because of the so-named seaside resort, the first rave parties over there, an article about all this in a magazine. Our man’s great sense of derision accounts for the “Don”. Of course, he’s never been partying in Rimini. Nor is he any more Italian than I, Olivier Schmitt.”

Mixin’ it up: Bird Peterson

Friday, January 26th, 2007

This week’s Mixin’ it up comes from the reigning remix/edit king of the Fathertronix forum, we don’t know how he finds the time to keep on putting all these jams out there but we don’t care as long as he keeps us dancing. Discobelle presents: Bird Peterson.

“Hey team! The idea behind this mix was to remind everyone that jams are as hot as you can make them, and sweet crap, are these jams hot! I’ve been producing and DJing for about a decade or so now (thanks to Dr. Knuckstable and some other dudes), so I got a great ear for jamage. I started out with hip hop, then went to breakbeat, then got REALLY thick into jungle, and then back into all three with a big chunk of electro. I never had a Serato so I rarely got to spin my own tracks, remixes, and edits. But the second I got access to one, I began to really edit all the tracks I could so that mixes would be flawless. When you have the chance to drop a mix the EXACT way you want, you gotta take it. So enjoy this audible essay on the workings of twurking. Holler at your myspace!”

TRACKLIST:

My Morning Jacket - Wordless Chorus
Saw these dudes live a long while back, still one of my favorite shows, and this tune is the jam.

Grandmaster Flash - The Message
Nelly Furtado - Promiscuous Girl
I thought it was really bad ass how good these two tracks sounded together. The Message is the BOMBADA!

Daft Punk - Da Funk
Come on. Still the jam.

Spank Rock - Chilly Will (Bird Peterson Remix)
I like this song a lot. Probably my favorite Spankro joint, and it was REALLY nice for them to let people work with the acapellas.

Queen Featuring David Bowie - Under Pressure
THE JAM!

Mint Royale - Show Me (Crazy Penis Remix)
Mint Royale is a really great act, and Crazy Penis are REALLY good remixers.

LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
Ludacris - Get Back
When i first heard Get Back, I thought about how it seemed like the new class version of Mama Said Knock You Out. Both tracks are fantastic.

J Geils Band - Centerfold
Yes.

Tittsworth - Sardines
Titts is a great producer and this track always gets the crowds hoppin.

Deejay Punk Roc - Far Out
This is probably my favorite electro track ever. Hands down. Deejay Punk Roc.

Ludacris - Splash Waterfalls
Another Luda track? Yes. Dance.

Thomas Schumacher - Kickschool 79
This song is one of my favorites of the past year or so. Really good synths.

Big Country - In A Big Country (Bird Peterson Bmix)
I’m glad this remix I did is getting some good play, I really like this original a lot.

Wolf Parade - I’ll Believe In Anything (Bird Peterson Remix)
Great band.

Fatboy Slim - Sho Nuff
When I first heard this track on Action, my knees locked and i had to sit down. And then i stood up and danced until my knees locked agian from dehydration. So then i got a Powerade.

Lil Scrappy - Money In The Bank (Bird Peterson Super Mixtendo)
I caught this track one night on BET and it has stayed in rotation since.

Conquering Lion - Code Red (94 Remix)
So i heard this track back in 99 on a tape, lost the tape, never knew the name, and so i never found it again. So i’m over on GoldenEraJungle.com and i ask about a track that says “I want the remix! 94 remix!” And BAM! They found it for me. BEST SITE EVER.

Top Cat - Bunn The Sensi
Ayres turned me on to the original of this track, super good times.

DJ Red - Mad PLO
Same story as the 94 remix. BEST SITE EVER!

DJ Zinc - Reach Out
Again, same story as 94 and Top Cat. BEST SITE EVER!

Lil Wayne Featuring Birdman - Stuntin Like My Daddy
I made this mix a ways before the Drama and Cannon shit started happening. Lil Wayne, you disgust me. FREE DRAMA AND CANNON!

Iron & Wine - Sunset Soon Forgotten

MIA - Galang
I made this mix as a joke for my friend Elliot. Then i spun it at a club and it went off hard, so HA!

Sebastian - HAL
Sebastian does it, man. Keep up with him.

Devin The Dude - Cooter Brown
I’ve been listening to Devin for so damn long, I’m really glad he’s still at the top of his game. Nobody can fuck with Devin.

Feist - Mushaboom (K-os Remix)
Feist is a great singer. And she’s hot.

Purple Ribbon All-Stars - Body Rock (Bird Pete’s Space Travel Redo)
PURP! This is one of my favorite remixes I’ve done.

Mixin’ it up: Bag Raiders

Friday, January 19th, 2007

This week, we’re going to the opposite part of the world to bring you a Mixin’ it up from the crazy guys in Bag Raiders (also check their MySpace) from Australia. We told you that 2007 was the year of Oz. The floor is theirs:

“If you want to know something about us, we are 3 dudes called Christopher Brave, Brainzar!!!!!, and Gus da Hoodrat… We DJ/Produce.. At the moment we’re working on a 12” whilst doing remixes and beats for other people. We also produce hip-hop from time to time… Basically we never take anything tooooo seriously, cos for us it’s mostly about fun.. But we do get serious from time to time and we do like a good musics. Here is our bio from our myspace.. which we’re gonna change soon but anyways..

Notorious for breaking just as much equipment as they own, these kids should wear circuit breakers at the bottom of their bell-bottom pants to save themselves from certain electrocution. Or maybe that’s just what they’re looking for… that, and love just a lil’… The Bag Raiders (aka the bag snatchers, the bag sniffers, the bag fillers, the bag heads, the bag boys, the bag pipes) are Christopher Brave, Jack Sabbath and Gus da Hoodrat. There’s a live show (laptop + guitar + keyboards + korg + korg + decks +mpc + cowbell + keytar + mic + thumb piano + anything that goes whhhhaaaeeeeooooozzz) And they also dj. The live show is usually made up of 10 covers of the most basic songs to play in C minor, then maybe one original piece of sloppy popno noise. It’s bastardish, but you dance… The dj sets are a mixture of piss stankin hip hop, slammin teckno fluff rock and micro tonal free jazz… You’ll find all this on the now legendary Bag Raiders mix cd… The Bag Raiders also make music and remix other people’s songs to make them cool in their zillion dollar studio on the bottom of the ocean floor, occasionally surfacing for some air and inspiration. Whhhhhaaaaeeeeeoooozzzz. !! !!!

TRACKLIST:

SHOOBY TAYLOR - LIFT EVERY VOICE AND SING

Our Friend put us on to this guy.. He’s a gentlemen amongst men. Recently deceased (R.I.P Shooby, the man.), he was a human horn. He travelled the land impersonating a saxophone. He was a mad fornicator.

THE TONGUE - BAD EDUCATION (http://www.myspace.com/thetongue06)

This the dopeness. Best album of last year (In Brainzar!!!!!’s humble opionion. Shared by many). Plus he shares something in common with our main black turned white homie Michael.

SHANE SKILLZ - I REPREZENT C**T (http://www.myspace.com/shaneskillz)

Gentleman. Scholar. Sage. Prophet. Waste of time. You get the drift….

RED RIDERS - I THINK YOU’RE BLIND

Our favourite song from Red Riders. Great local rock band. Check ‘em out. Plus their name kinda looks similar to ours on paper, and that is totally cool with us.

THE GAME FEAT 50 CENT - THIS I HOW WE DO (ACAPELLA)

If you put all three of us together in a body suit would probably get close being as big as these dudes.

BILLY SQUIRE - BIG BEAT

Bring back the big beat, literally.

JUELZ SANTANA - THERE IT GO

Better whistling skills than Peter Bjorn and John, and claude von stroke and all the rest of those whistling rednecks….. hands down (legs up)…

RATATAT - SEVENTEEN YEARS

If only we just sat back and listened to what these guys had to say every so often…. nothing. their music seems to hold most of the words..

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS - TOMBSTRUCK

Don’t have a clue what they are singing about here, still makes my head go wowzers!

PRESETS - TRUTH AND LIES

All the lies, and all the truths, who’s lying and who’s being honest?? Can you do both at the same time?? We think you can, and still make great music. This is one of our favourite Presets songs. Totally lost behind all the madness that was ‘Beams’.

CHRIS ROCK - TABLE DANCE

Our friend is a total local down at all the strip clubs up in The Cross (our local red light district), when you walk in everyone knows this guy - makes you feel like you are travelling with naked royalty. This is for him, and for you (lovers of the table dance). What am i glass?? Are you listening to me?

NICKY VAN SHE AND DANGEROUS DAN - AROUND THE WORLD (BRAINZAR’S BODYMORE MIX)

Baltimore edit of serious bunch of fun.. Out on Bang Gang 12′’s…. sooner than you can say “how fukn long do they take to get this stuff into circulation, i downloaded that like 12 months ago, and am totally over it. Let’s go and listen to some more hip hop and smoke a joint, then go to bed”

EDU K - POP U ZUDA ROCK N ROLL (ACAPELLA)

OH….!!! That’s what a PoPOZuDa is!!! So now we know..

CAPLETON - FIREMAN’S ANTHEM

When it burns.. Someone’s gotta put it out.. Who better to do it then Capleton.

VYBZ CARTEL FEAT ROLLERGIRL - GOOD BUDDY (REMIX)

You can’t beat Vybz.. You can’t beet Jamaica.. You can’t beat the fact that there is about half a million different versions of this riddim floating around…

MIDNIGHT JUGGERNAUTS - SHADOWS

What we are always standing in when hanging out with these guys…

PASE ROCK - LINDSAY LOHANS REVENGE

That girl definitely deserves to have a song just about her. I mean she is totally in the scene, ya know?

TEENAGER - ALONE AGAIN (VAN SHE TECH REMIX)

Another amazing remix from VST, we decided to exclude the totally weird breakdown cos we were confusing ourselves a little too much. If you can wrap your head around it drop us a line and explain whats going on.

BAG RAIDERS - FUN PUNCH

No comment. No, seriously we’d rather not.

MR OIZO - NAZIS (BRAINZAR’S CRUNK JUSTICE EDIT)

Brainzar knocked this one up just after he’d knocked up another intergalactic booty babe. She danced and then she had a baby. We’re still going …. WHAT!…….YEAAAAH!

KIM - B.T.T.T.T.R.Y (BAG RAIDERS WOULD HAVE STOLEN YOUR WALLET AND CHANGED ALL YOUR MONEY TO EUROS AND GONE SHOPPING IN PARIS REMIX)

If you in a nightclub and are standing next to, or even near us you better sew up your pockets. This business is not at all lucrative…. we want your money.

TRILLVILLE - GET ON MY LEVEL (CHRISTOPHER BRAVE’S PEACH PIT EDIT)

Yo, you would never believe this but Steve (from Beverly Hills) was over at our place one late night/early morning kickin it and suddenly he produces this cd from his big head of curly blonde hair, and was like “yo i knocked this one up earlier in garage band, quite nostalgic, no?” .. we killed that mother fucker, cos it was good, and now its ours….

KIM - PARTY MACHINI

Oooooooooh Kim, he’s a party machini.

BONGO DA BULO (ACAPELLA)

Well.. Sometimes you need to get all tropical and tribal.. Ya know? Makes you feel like you’re on holidays sippin on pinacolada’s in a hollowed out pineapple.

EDU K - FUNKERIO BLUE

Funky saggy balls?? That’s what he says right? Man, anyone that has it in them to bust that line out over Jack Black’s riff is destined for a good ol fashioned motor city punch up with the Stripe guy.

DR ALBAN - HALELLUJAH

We wanted to be doctors when we left school. Brainzar wanted to be a brain surgeon (obviously), Brave was into proctology, and Gus was all about the dentistry. Well those plans went to waste til we remembered Dr Alban…. yes, we can still be good people through the world of insanely cheesey dance music.

THREE SIX MAFIA - STAY FLY (ACAPELLA)

Fllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyaahhhhhaahhhhhahhhhhyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Yes we will.

BAG RAIDERS - BRAVE RAVE

Rave, rave, rave, rave, rave, rave, rave.. yeah we are all gonna get sick of this shit pretty quick. But fuck it is fun right now… Hey where is my other wrist band?

HOT CHIP - SHAKE A FIST (DIPLO REMIX)

Diplo and Hot Chip = To L Doc and Hippo ………. we like what you did with it… it sounds good. See you in Africa fools.

MUSCLES - ONE INCH BADGE PIN (THE BAG RAIDERS PROTEIN SHAKE-UP)

Aussie one piece act from Melbourne. Really talented guy with lots to say about lemonade, hammocks, and independence.

THE OUTHERE BROTHERS - DON’T STOP WIGGLE WIGGLE

This is a classic number, all the guys like Switch and Justice and Erol and stuff totally bite their sound… how lame..

WHITENOISE - IT’S WHAT WE DO

This guy is like 18 years old or some shit like that.. nuff said. Actually no, im startinfg to feel drunk now so i am just gonna keep going here - actually no, im gonna stop. yep.

DIZZY RASCAL - STAND UP TALL

Possibly you will get hit with a chair. Then you’ll be dizzy.

SNEAKY SOUND SYSTEM - I LOVE IT (THE BAG RAIDERS DUB)

You should hear how gay the vocals are on this track, hence the dub. What are not usually shamed by much, as you may be able to tell by now.. but come on.. we are trying to be cool from now on.

WE RUN THIS - DUKE DUMONT MIX (ACAPELLA)

SECRET TRACK

This shit is our secret weapon. That’s why we ain’t gonna say what it is….no but seriously, it’s:

ATAKAK - OBAA SIMA

This track sounds like the vocals were recorded into a tape deck while another tape deck was playing the instrumental… Some seriously sweeeeet shit..SHHHH.. keep it on the low!..”

Bag Raiders Discobelle Mix (zShare)

Mixin’ it up: DJ Yxa & Jeansbjörn

Friday, January 12th, 2007

For our latest installment of the mix series we’re staying in Sweden. We proudly present Stockholms finest: DJ Yxa & Jeansbjörn. Why don’t we let them do the talking:

Ying Tang Twins – Jigglin’

Rich Boy – Throw Some D’s

Rich Boy ft Rick Ross - Throw Some D’ Remix

Our favourite retards on our favourite beat kick off our first mix ever! Of course we had to throw in the original as well as a bit of Rick Ross.

Mike Jones – Mr. Jones

Mike Jones kills it with this Counting Crows cover. Well, that’s half true anyway.

Project Pat – What Money Do

Good googly moogly! The Pat’s back and he’s the ghetto Dr Ruth.

Young Jeezy – Streets On Lock (Jeansie Fix)

Hall & Oates – Out Of Touch (Jeansie Fix)

Our favourite track of off Jeezy’s latest album where Cool n’ Dre use the coolest part of Hall & Oates kinky classic ”Out Of Touch”. Both tunes were touched by the paws of Jeansbjörn.

Clipse – Wamp Wamp (Pistol Pete Remix)

Hey 2007! Please sound like this!

Missy Elliott – Sock It 2 Me

The Game – Let’s Ride

A short bit of Missy’s sexiest song make way for one our most played tunes of last year.

Beatsurgeons ft. Ison & Gurmo – Förståru

Ison is the no. 1 feel good mc of Sweden. This soulful beat from the mighty Beatsurgeons fits him perfectly.

Snoop & E-40 - Candy (Morse Code Candy Girl Remix)

Snoop & E-40 - Candy

If Snoop’s the west coast Willy Wonka, E-40’s the Augustus Gloop.

The Pack – At The Club

”At the club I shake my ass, at the party I shake my ass”. The lyrics read like our own diary.

Ken – Cutta dom

”Cutta dom” means ”fun” in Swedish. This track is all about that, as well as catching the day.

AM Kidd – Idiot

No, we didn’t put that Napoleon Dynamite sample in there ourselves. We could have though.

Fattaru – Snubbar vet inte

Nobody does it like Mackan (probably the best mc in Sweden) and his crew when they go crazy over this sweet ”Popcorn”-ish beat.

Sabo – Heyeyeyey

From Astma & Rockwell’s new album ”From DLX With Love”.

Frodoe – Party Jumpin

Our hobbit My Space buddy delivers this b-more styled joint with a nice disco feeling.

Ciara – Promise (DJ Technics Remix)

If Ciara and DJ Technics had a baby we would adopt it, name it ”Cutta dom” and live happily ever after!

Scottie B & King Tut – The Almighty Unruly Simon Joint

Add a bit of funky drums to the best song ever and you end up with pure Baltimore happiness. Cutta dom!

Beyoncé – Irreplacable (DJ Technics Remix)

If Beyoncé and DJ Technics had a baby, Jigga would only be sad for a little while.

Womack & Womack – Teardrops (Jeansbjörn & Fisken Mix)

Jeansbjörn and Fisken tried not to ruin this fantastic tune. It turned out pretty good.

DJ Unk – Back It Up (Dave Nada Remix)

The synths! The synths! They’re amazing!

Crime Mob – What Is Love (Jeansie Fix)

The coolest clique out of Georgia pays hommage to the coolest dude out of somewhere in Germany: Haddaway!

JSPR - Whitest Boy To Bump

A friend of ours once tried to make out with Erlend Öye, but he thought she was ”unprofessional”. JSPR of Krazy Fiesta was definitely a pro when he made this mix though.

The Studio/Slim Thug – Out There/Three Kings (DJ Yxa Edit)

Discobelle named The Studio one of the best bands in Sweden, we agree.”

Mixin’ it up: DJ Drastik

Saturday, January 6th, 2007

We got a DMC champion doing Mixin’ it up this time (2004 DMC Canadian Supremacy Champion, 2004 DMC World Supremacy Semi Finalist, 2005 DMC Canadian Champion and 2006 DMC Canadian Team Champions (with The Stylusts). DJ Drastik is the founding member of The Stylusts Crew based out of Ottawa/Toronto Canada. Let’s get to it. We present DJ Drastik.

“This mix is one of the first i’ve done that hasn’t been straight Hip Hop, R n B or Dirty South. I wanted to do something different on this one and just show my love for different styles of music. It goes from being pretty dark to having a party feel, all the while keeping the flow. That’s what i was initially looking for, and i’m pretty happy with the outcome.

Here’s the play by play. Enjoy!

1. Air - Another Day

Air is a group that i’ve been feeling for a while now. They have a really
dark, yet mellow sound and this track definately reflects that. By far one of my fav’s from Air and i think, a good way to set off the mix. I added a little intro and some cuts as well.

2. Keisha Cole - Should have Cheated (B.Cause edit)

This is a B.Cause edit and i must say, one of my favorite remixes as of
late. The classic “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock is flipped and
transformed into an eerie, double time, R n B banger! Straight goods!

3. Kano - Signs in my life/ Luda- Roll Out (Drastik Blend)

This is one of my own blends. Grime and Dirty South just go hand in hand in my opinion and both these joints just flow really nice together.

4. Radiohead - Street Spirit/ Jay-Z - Jigga What Jigga Who (Drastik Blend)

i’m a huge Radiohead fan. How can you not be?! When The Bends first came out i kinda slept. But after hearing “Street Spirit”, among other amazing songs on the album, i quickly woke up hahaha! I’ve been wanting to do something with this one for a while and decided to blend it with this super spaced out Timbaland classic, I think it they work well together.

5. Cassie ft. Scorcher - Me n U (Brains Remix)

This is a remix of Cassie’s “Me n U” feat Scorcher from the UK. The joint was produced/remixed by Brains. He gives “Me n U” a completely different feel from the original by screwing it up and giving it some bounce. Definately hype!

6. Young Dro - Shoulder Lean (Starkey Fractured Elbow Mix)

Got this one courtesy of Call Me Mickey. Don’t know too much about Starkey other than he killed it with this one! It’s got that grime feel to it and like i said before, grime and dirty south just go together so well! There’s alot of “Shoulder Lean” remixes out there, but this one stands out for me.

7. Stanton Warriors Ft. The Beatnuts - Shake It Up

I first heard this tune via Mark Ronson on EVR and have been hooked eversince! Stanton Warriors always make great tunes and this synthy, uptempo joint is definately one of them. Hearing the Beatnuts on something like this is extremely refreshing too. Certified dancefloor mayhem in my opinion! I added some scratches in between the chorus’ for some extra flavor.

8. Vyle - Strobemouth (Drop The Lime Remix)

Vyle is seriously one talented cat. Im really enjoying his style alot
lately. This is a remix done by Drop The Lime. DTL is also another one of my favorites at the moment. His production skills are top notch and this remix is proof. Everytime i listen to this one i hear something new in it. Love joints like that!

9. Phono.o Ft. TinTin - Pimpin TinTin

This one is off the chain. I just love everything about it. Tintin’s flow,
the chops in the lyrics, rough bassline, the bongo’s…it’s all gravy!

10. Space Cowboy - Egyptian Lover (Loose Cannons Remix)

The original joint is just so insanely addictive, but so is this remix done
by Loose Cannons. At first, i planned to put the original on here, but
after hearing the way Loose Cannons flipped it, it was only right to put their remix instead.

11. Chemical Brothers - Galvanize (Switch remix)

An already dope joint made even more dope. Everyone loves Switch and totally within reason. Dude has been killing it for years, wether it’s Solid Groove, A. Brucker, Count of Monte Cristal, Dave Taylor, whoever or whatever he’s rolling as, it’s always bonkers! This
one just sounds so obnoctious and “In your face” to me i almost laugh when i hear it. Just riduclous!

12. Debonair Samir - Samir’s Theme/ Missy - We Run This (Duke Durmont Remix) (Drastik Blend)

Samir’s Theme has been a favorite for many, myself included. I decided to blend it with the acapella to Duke Durmont’s remix of Missy’s “We Run This”. Both had the same flow and i think it worked out pretty nice.

13. Pase Rock - Lindsay lohan’s Revenge

Pase Rock is that dude! This track is seriously priceless! I love the fact
that people are up in the club getting buck to a song about Lindsay Lohan’s busted snatch! It’s just brillant!

14. Spankrock - Far Left (U-Tern Electro-Boogie Remix)

Not too much i can say about Spankrock that hasn’t already been said.
Straight party crack! And again, so many Spankrock remixes out there, but one stands out. U-tern (Vancity stand up!) killed it with this one, hot damn! Got that 80’s electro, b-boy feel and shit…this one bangs heavy

15. Kid Sister - Let Me Bang (Drastik Blend)

Kid Sister is straight killing it right now! I’ve been loving all the heat
from her lately…I decided to blend her joint “Let Me Bang” with Memphis Bleek’s “Is That Your Bitch?” and Ciara’s “Oh” to add some bounce to it.

16. Steed Lord - You (Killer Klever Remix)

I met Klever about 6 years ago in San Francisco at the ITF Finals. He was always a huge inspiration for me on the battle tip and now he’s doing the same with his remixes and mixtapes! This remix of Steed Lord’s “You” has that hot electro feel with a splash of some dirty dirty! I cut to the break at the end and put Trick Daddy’s “Shut up” over top. It just sounded really hype over that part, i had to throw it in there!

17. The Killers - Somebody Told Me / 8 Ball & MJG - Ridin’ High (Drastik Blend)

Gonna to have to make a proper remix, but for now i think it works lovely. Both songs have such intense melodies and really compliment each other well.

18. Three Six Mafia - Pussy Got You Hooked / Rick Ross Hustlin (Drastik Blend)

I try to listen to this at least once a day! The violins in this banger are
just off the chain and so inspirational! This beat always get me going!

19. Mike Jones Ft. Slim Thug - Still Tippin’ (Crate Savers Remix)

I like joints that when remixed have a completely different feel to them. I felt like bouncing or fighting someone to the original one, but this one just makes me wanna smile and dance! I don’t have a great sounding copy of this, but it has such a good feeling to it i had to put it on there!

20. DJ Ayres - Show Em / Roula - Lick it (Drastik Blend)

Ayre’s just completely murders it with this one flipping the new Jay single into a serious Bmore anthem! His work with those horns is absolutely ridiculous! I decided to cut it up a bit and ad Roula’s “Lick It” over top. I like how it works with the horns.

21. DJ Ayres - La Da Dee / Dazz Band - Let It Whip (Drastik Blend)

Another blend of mine over an Ayres remix. Ayres flipped the Crystal Waters’ house classic “Gypsy Woman” (which of course is the original to T.I’s “Why You Wanna”) into another Bmore dancefloor monster! I added the Dazz Band’s funky classic, “Let It Whip” over top, as well as a Rick Ross sample which tied in with the Dazz Band joint. I originally wanted to blend something with the Crystal Waters track, but this just worked so well over Ayres’ remix that i had to do it.

22. Scottie B & King Tutt - African Chant / Christina Aguilera - Aint No Other Man (Drastik Blend)

I never really planned on putting so many blends over Baltimore joints, it just sorta happened. Never less, i think they all worked, including this one i did with Scoitie B & King Tutt’s “African chant” and Christina Aguilera’s “Aint No Other Man”. I think both flow nice together.

23. DJ Mehdi ft. Fafi - Lucky Boy / The Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc. (Drastik Blend)

I’ve been loving the whole Ed Banger catalog lately and i realized towards the end of the mix that i hadn’t put any of it on! That being said, i decided to wind down with Dj Medhi’s eerie joint “Lucky Boy” and shake it up a little with The Gorillaz “Feel Good Inc” over it.

So there you have it! It’s not something i really planned in great detail. I just started it and went with the flow, which in my opinion, is always a great formula. I think the best sounding shit often happens at random and by accident, and that doing things on the fly with little planning can often yield good results.

Thanks for listening!

Mixin’ it up: Motion 44

Friday, December 15th, 2006

Our friends in Motion 44 does this part of the Mixin’ it up series. Give it up for Motion 44:

“As Motion 44 we have made music for the dancefloors during the last two years. (to check some old remixes, including our mixes of Daft Punk, Robyn and Le Sport visit myspace.com/motion44)

But we felt that sitting at home and making music was not enough. We wanted to head out on the roads to share our sidechainbass vision with other people. So we recruited Eric Schüldt, the man who used to run Kilotin, our favourite club of all time, and one of our favourite dj’s, to the group to help us. This mix for the mighty Discobelle is a taste of our combined vision. Or just a partymix for the weekend.

The songs on the music to music mixtape:

1. Intro

Our vision:
Turn back to the roots. Go down into the underground. Into the deep. Back to the days when house was house, garage was garage and deep was really deep. To turn back to Stefan Thungrens deep sunken soulful Atlantis.

That is what we aim to do - but - exactly the opposite.

This is music to music.

2. Ben Delay - Clubmusic is dead

You listen to Hipstertechno and Oddsterelectro. You say that clubmusic is dead. It’s not. You listen to Minimal and say that music is too hard these days. It’s not. It’s only stronger than ever before. Ben Delay, in his lovely german accent, put words to our thougts to kickstart this mixtape.

3. Motion 44 feat. Calle Dernulf - Stol nr. 17

Just like the Triple Threat match at Wrestlemania XX between Chris Benoit, Shawn Michaels and Triple H was an instant classic - so is this. We took a quote from the permanent secretary of the Swedish academy, Horace Engdahl and let Swedens Pete Tong, the nicest man on Swedish radio, Calle Dernulf, read it. Then we put some Motion 44 beats underneath it all.

4. Michael Jackson - Thriller (Bud Peterson remix)

Our Myspace friend Bud Peterson takes Michaels original and jesusjuices it up with that ravey bass that we like so much.

5. Ferry Corsten - Are you ready

Our beloved Ferry. Don´t listen to DJ-Mag who say that there are greater dj:s than you on this planet. People fund secret societys in your name, and people like us cries to your songs. People may turn their backs on clubs who play your songs, like people went mad when Eric played your songs at Kilotin. But Ferry, our beloved Ferry, you will always be the greatest in our eyes.

6. Jaques Bauer - Abandon ship

Is this a tribute to the hardest working agent in TV history (Jack Bauer in 24) or is this just one of the most banging electrohouse tracks of the season?

7.Voodoo and Serano feat Zoe C. - Vulnerable (V and S vs. Choo Blahnik mix)

We could defend ourselves with intricate analyzes of class and music, or analyze the very essence of life. But it´s not necessary, because in a really large trancebreakdown you’ll find the answer to all of this.

8. Paolo Mojo – 1983 (Eric Prydz remix) / The Streets – “Turn the page / Alan Parsons Project – Mammagamma / Michael Sembello – Automatic man

A real Ableton-smorgasboard. The recipe:

1. Include everything you like, In the end it´s all gonna be mixed in your belly.
2. What you need is a well cooked bassline to keep it all together. And basslines don´t come any better than out of the machines of Swedens finest, Eric Prydz.

9. DJ Delicious – Let it drop (Henrik B remix)

It´s tunes like this the term Megahouse was made for! Adeline, play this in your club Housewives and we’ll be there, (even if you don´t play it, we’ll be there). A big hit of 2006 and with all the Christmas and new years parties coming up we needed some tunes here that summarizes the year.

10. Darude – Music

As the title of the mixtape says: From music to music. A tune that sums up this mixtape very well. First some cheesy synths until the mad bass hits you like Hulk Hogans legdrop. Then you know it´s all over….1-2-3.

Enjoy!”
