Blondes

Here’s your weekend soundtrack, slow epic disco burners courtesy of Brooklyn duo Blondes. Their album “Blondes” was just released on RVNG Intl with a couple of extras and an additional disc of remixes.

Chairlift & Kool A.D – Party (Beyonce Cover)

A little disappointed by Jay-Z and Yeezy’s kaleidoscopic mishmash of concert footage? Enjoy some smoother than grocery store wine cooler vibes on the collaboration between Chairlift and Das Racist’s Kool A.D instead, which reworks Carter family member Beyonce’s material into a dreamy mishmash of wispy exaltation, and a rap where Kool A.D repeats Lenny Kravitz’s name like he’s trying to raise a demon from the 7th layer of hell. MP3 please.

The Weeknd – Next (Keys N Krates Remix)

It’s mind boggling to think that Abel Tesfaye, better known as The Weeknd, is only 21 years old and has already released three albums in the last ninth months. The Canadian-born songwriter and producer defies pop star expectations, releasing all his music for free, declining interviews and communicating with fans only through social media outlets like Twitter and Tumblr.

His music is definitely R&B influenced, but it would be unfair to categorize it as such. It’s atmospheric and experimental while still being accessible. Lyrically, he strips down the culture of today’s youth with his own introspective tales of love and lust. Tracks like “Next” off Echoes of Silence is slow and piano tinged and seduces you with its desperately relatable story of unrequited love and Tesfaye’s stunning falsetto.

Fellow Canadian musicians Keys n Krates give “Next” the remix treatment, chopping up the vocals and bringing out a heavier drum line by adding snares, all of which rhythmically challenges an already great track. The trio of turntablist DJ Jr-Flo, keyboardist Matisse, and drummer Adam Tune give “Next” a little bit more electro flavor and is just a taste of their live set.

Key n Krates Tour Dates:
2/10: Toronto, ON @ The Hoxton
2/11: Peterborough, ON @ Red Dog w/ Grandtheft
2/17: Bend, OR @ Winterfest
3/25: Miami, FL @ Ultra Music Festival
5/31 – 6/3: Orzak, AR @ Wakarusa Festival

Joelito

Malmö producer Joelito with his song “Sickhead” (we’ve posted about the track before here on Discobelle but it’s now being released as an EP by Mad Decent sublabel Jeffrees). The tracks sounds like Mexican 3ball but Joelito’s use of horns completely flips the track upside down. The remixes from Flore, Boyfriend and Copia Doble Systema continue where he left off by transporting the track to new dimensions. Also, be on the lookout for Joelito’s new EP “Crudo” which will be coming out March 3rd on Vienna based label Big ‘N Hairy.

Canblaster & Nightwave – Power Up

A new tune from mad French hatter Canblaster who together with Nightwave did this for the Red Bull Music Academy Various Assets project where from now until February 24th, every Monday thru Friday, one track recorded at the Red Bull Music Academy 2011 in Madrid will be made available for download. 16 in total. The full 35-track “Various Assets – Not For Sale” 2011 compilation is set to drop on physical format February 24th.

“Working from the chords up, Nightwave and Canblaster rein in the Korg M3 like a pair of seasoned synth-whisperers. Far from a cruise on the motorway, this obstacle course through foot-steppers territory alternates with half-time break-downs, slippery hi-hat patterns, and ecstatic vocal chops. Global recession or not, there’s always work for feet.”

Mayka – Bonanza

Maja Edelbring is better known as Mayka, she happens to be the reigning queen of the Swedish electro scene that recently signed to the new electronic label Uniform Beat and with her colorful mix of house and electro she has turned dancefloors into a sweatpacked mess everywhere she plays. Her debut release “Bonanza” goes in hard with a title track that’s a tropical tinged hornbased stomper that gallops into to the sunset.

Gucci Mane (ft. Rocko) – Chicken Room (video)

Another tune off the “Trap Back” mixtape.
