Medicinne

Hold tight kiddies, this weeks installment of The Discobelle Mix is deep, groovy and certainly nothing to take lightly. Graciously provided by Austin, TX DJ/Production duo Medicinne, the lads have graced us with a special, live recording of their set opening for the legendary Sasha just a few weeks back. You may have seen Medicinne’s name tossed around here in previous, they’ve been keeping us at steady attention around the DB offices with a string of tight releases for labels like Audiophile Deep and Academik (check our previous coverage HERE) and they just returned from Las Vegas and performing on the Cats & Boots Boombox Mobile Stage at Electric Daisy Carnival.

We hope you dig their work as much as we do, enjoy!

Octopus-Packshot-71-

The mighty Octopus Recordings has unearthed a special talent to add to it’s impressive roster of Techno droids with up and coming producer, BARBUTO. Born Christian Barbuto, he’s positioned himself as a staple in the Austin dance community as a respected DJ and event promoter and even though he’s contributed tunes and EP’s for labels like Bush and Raise Recordings, his first solo outing for Octopus is certainly a high point. The “Arcana EP” features two original cuts from BARBUTO and showcases his bottom heavy, driving Techno flair and penchant for moody textures and subterranean atmospheres.

The title cut is seven minutes of relentless, pounding kicks, cavernous reverbs and one muscular bass riff….the aneurysm-inducing breakdowns are nothing to take lightly either. On the b-side, we have “Twilight Imperium,’ an equally sinewy affair thats dripping in epic sweeps and dubby chord stabs. Overall, an impressive outing and certainly one to watch as 2015 unfolds… I can only imagine whats next from BARBUTO and Octopus.

Austin’s own rising star of hip hop, Zeale, joins forces with fellow Austinite, Off Da Clock, to unleash this smashing remix of ‘Spin,’ a dizzying, up tempo dance-floor burner. Taken from Zeale’s recent EP, ‘FRNZ & FNGZ,’ Off Da Clock offers his trademark style to the melting pot… mixing in some beyond beefy percussion, a silky smooth bass riff and chunky, wah-wah guitars. Zeale’s crooning, which occupies a territory akin to that of Pharrell’s upper registers, floats effortlessly on this bed of disco fire for nearly seven minutes yet remains something we could dance to all night.
