If you’ve been paying attention to this blog for the last year or so, you may have noticed my pension for Oslo based, Nu Disco producer, B.G.Baarregaard. His consistently funky output on such labels as Whiskey Disco, Editorial Records and here, his first EP for Paper Disco, have been a source of continued enjoyment and anticipation. This new release, entitled “Partysvenskenes Dans,” showcases the lads original work with three cuts that rely heavily on the his own arrangements, rather than sample sources.

Kicking things off is the titular cut which utilizes some silky, Nordic Disco synth work to create an infectiously dancey affair, not unlike that of “Inspector Norse.” Up next, we have the sublime, bass heavy and organ laden stomp of “(Got Me) Runnin,'” the undisputed highlight for me. Coming in both ‘Original’ and ‘Dub’ formats, this one is certain to please the Disco Fiends as well as the House Heads. Wrapping things up nicely is the breezy, laid back Balearic stylings of “Konur & Karlar,” with it’s layers of sweeping arpeggios and stabbing chords.

As an added bonus, we have the premiere of B.G.’s new video for ‘Partysvenskenes Dans,’ produced by the talented, Magnoose.

Generally recognized as a re-edit label, Whiskey Disco shakes things up a bit with the latest from Icelandic producer, B.G. Baarregaard and the ‘Disco Inn Ep’…. his third solo release for the imprint. Kicking it off, the title track wastes no time injecting the funk into your stride with some heavy handclaps, a Moog bassline, some sweet stabs and beautiful ah’s and oh’s… a total winner on this one! B-side, ‘Undercover Lover’ sees B.G. add his signature flair to some nice, 80’s source material while closing track, ‘Kaffibarinn’ pays homage to the legendary Icelandic club, formerly owned by Damon Albarn!

Purveyors of cosmic funk, Florida based imprint Whiskey Disco (helmed by the inimitable Sleazy McQueen) has dropped their second release from Icelandic act, B.G. Baarregaard. Consisting of two classic reworks, one original composition plus a bonus, free download… the ‘Love Deluxe EP’ has something for everyone.

‘The Sound’ kicks things off with funky percussion loops, bubbling acid riffs and a brilliant use of the original source material. ‘The Return’ drops the tempo to funkier territories with heavy take on the only song anyone cares to remember from Mr. Mark Morrison… girl, you know that ain’t no lie. ‘The Desire’ wraps things up with a beautiful excursion in to piano-laden, Italo stylings with familiar vocal snips.
