Prince William – Fade To Mind Mix 001

New mix by Fade To Mind label boss Prince William is bursting at the seams with things we love. First up, you’ve got a host of great new exclusive tracks from MikeQ, Bok Bok, and a gigantic forthcoming remix of L-Vis 1990′s new single from some unknown combination of producers that form the “Night Slugs Allstars”.

But even more formidable than the tracklisting is the way that everything in this mix blends together – putting Carl Craig and MikeQ back-to-back has never sounded so complimentary, especially with the long blends Prince employs that makes everything mesh together in hazy, brilliant nightclub ecstasy. Dim the lights and play it out from start to finish.

The Living Islands – Empires (Sam Tiba Remix)

The self described “most discrete member of Club Cheval“, weed aficionado and general dance music miracle worker Sam Tiba has been making relentlessly unique dance music in 2011, reworking everyone from Crookers side project Dr. Gonzo to French turntablists Birdy Nam Nam and Nightshifters’ very own Lucid.

Now, we’re lucky enough to share an old track Sam Tiba remix that will never see a proper release which has been played out often by Girl Unit, Bok Bok and others. Huge grimey strings, codeine injected dreamy vocals floating around the background and what might be maracas clapping together in rapid succession create something similar to the sound of broken glass on concrete. Big and commanding without being overly noisy, it’s guaranteed to turn heads and shake spines on the dance floor.

Martyn, Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990 Rinse FM Set

Bok Bok & L-Vis go back to back with Martyn, the founder of 3024 and generally nice guy (from the vibe of this radio show at least).

Bok Bok & L-Vis 1990 on Rinse FM w/ special guest Martyn – 31 May 2011 (download via Night Slugs)

Also, don’t sleep on Bok Bok’s newly released EP on Night Slugs, a love letter to early 2000s grime.

Night Slugs x Boiler Room

Our friends in London based but taking over the world massive known as Night Slugs took over the infamous The Boiler Room in London monday and now the Bok Bok and Girl Unit sets have surfaced, full on vibes!

“What is Girl Unit? Juke? Dubstep? Drag?! Nope, he’s none of them. He’s the original founder of G-Unit, who left before they made the big time because of their degrading views on women and lack of tracks devoted to social issues. Maximum respect!”

Bok Bok flying the flag for Night Slugs, and the idea that all you need to dance ’til your shoes fuck up is drum beats and basslines in varying forms.”

PS. Check out the Night Slugs crew taking over XOYO for the Bang The Box party in London tomorrow (saturday March 5th).

Fact Mix 211: Bok Bok

Last mix from Fact Magazine of 2010 and they’re rounding off the year with a delicious mix from ½ of the team behind Night Slugs (one of the premier labels of the year), Bok Bok delivers a mix that will be in heavy rotation here at Discobelle HQ well into 2011.

“As co-owner of Night Slugs with L-Vis 1990, Bok Bok’s responsible for releasing more good club tracks than pretty much anyone else we can think of this year. Girl Unit’s ‘Wut’ and ‘IRL’, Jam City’s Magic Drops and Refixes EPs, Mosca’s ‘Square One’, Velour’s Velvet Collection, a full release of Lil Silva’s white label classic ‘Seasons’, Egyptrixx’s ‘The Only Way Up’ – the list goes on. And on. And on.

Night Slugs the label may have launched last year, but the brand’s far from new – the club night has been going since 2008, and has graduated from a low-key family affair in Camberwell to one of London’s best regular nights, spread across several venues. Rarely is a club night’s philosophy – in this case, a desire to push innovative, unpretentious dance music free from formula and geographical boundaries while staying true to the UK soundsystem culture that birthed the night – translated so seamlessly into a physical product, but over 12″ Night Slugs releases down the line, here we are.

Bok Bok and L-Vis 1990 teamed up to deliver FACT mix 19 in the early days of Night Slugs; given the year they’ve had, we thought it wholly appropriate to ask them back. Altered Natives, MMM’s Fiedel, Boddika, Lil Silva, T. Williams and many more feature.”

Resident Advisor label of the month: Night Slugs

The Night Slugs crew are taking over, one of the most prolific labels of 2010. Last week saw them dropping the hyped up single “Wut” from fellow London producer Girl Unit and today it was announced that they’re the label of the month over at Resident Advisor. L-Vis 1990 did this mix for Resident Advisor, showcasing exactly why they were named label of the month.

“This month’s label showcase comes courtesy of L-Vis 1990, one-half of the team behind Night Slugs. Over the course of three-quarters of an hour, he takes us through the neon-lit world of the label.”

XLR8R Podcast #165: Bok Bok

Best of the best…Bok Bok and Night Slugs domination continues. This time with a smashing mix/podcast for XLR8R packed with exclusives, dubplates and just in general, all out awesome tracks.

“Of all the figures in the post-dubstep diaspora, few have been as instrumental as Bok Bok. As most readers of XLR8R probably know, the London-based producer/DJ is also the co-founder of the Night Slugs imprint, which has quickly established itself at the top of the heap when it comes to the forward-thinking house and bass music that continues to spring forth from the UK’s long-running hardcore continuum. His place in the canon of UK dance music aside, it’s worth mentioning that Bok Bok (a.k.a. Alex Sushon) is also a highly skilled DJ who is just as likely to pull out a classic house or grime tune as he is a futuristic dubplate. As such, we’ve been hounding him for the past year to put together an exclusive mix for the XLR8R podcast, and he’s come through in fine style, littering his mix with unheard gems from Night Slugs brethren (Girl Unit, Jam City, Optimum), fellow UK heavy hitters (Geeneus, Ikonika, Untold, Terror Danjah), and a few unexpected jams that still go down smooth—after all, it’s hard to argue with kwaito, Dam-Funk, or Azari & III in any mix.”

Breakin’ Bad

Monday, old new government here in Sweden and apparently we have an extreme right wing party in parliament. Looks like we’re in for a ride these next four years. We need something to cheer us up and luckily we got a little gift in the mail.

Meanbucket, the label from the often overlooked city of Prague are set to drop their second release “Breakin’ Bad” from elusive Tokyo based producer Ethix, it’s out today and has already been grabbing attention around the globe from producers such as Bok Bok, Jason Forrest, Malente and Mumdance etc. If you throw in a couple of stomping remixes such as a 90′s house affair from New Yorks finest Nick Catchdubs & Proper Villains + Prague’s very own dubstep heroes Side9000 and you get an essential release.

Ethix – Breakin’ Bad (Nick Catchdubs X Proper Villains Pumper Remix) (Mediafire)
