Banda UO (Davi, Mateus and Candy Mel) from the city of Goiania in the Midwest in Brazil have adopted an Amazonian style of music originally from the city of Belem called tecno brega — which loosely translates as “cheesy techno”. In 2011 the group won the Brazilian MTV Web Video of the Year award for their heavy-metal brega sample of Willow Smith’s “Whip My Hair” entitled “Shake de Amor” and are currently under supervision by fellow Brazilians in Bonde do Role who are grooming them for world domination. Marina Gasolina – former founder and frontfigure of Brazilian baile funk outfit Bonde Do Role is releasing her debut single “Leone” (produced by Etienne Tron of Radioclit and Berlin producer Electronicat) on her own label Anfetamina Records November 29th. The single sees her explore a more experimental electronic sound, the track is filled with a galloping drumbeat and A Clockwork Orange esque synths and is a homage to master of spaghetti westerns – Sergio Leone.

Brazilian dj extraordinaire Chernobyl has been a pioneer in the Brazilian music scene since 1995, he’s one of the main pushers of baile funk, he discovered and signed Bonde Do Role and then produced their album. As a dj he has a knack for flawlessly mixing electro, Miami bass, 80s, oldschool baile funk, Baltimore club, afro, kuduro, or rock n roll, bending it all into his neo Baile funk style.

He teams up with growing German label Exploited Records (run by prolific dj Shir Khan) for the release of the “Empina A Pipa” EP (also available at Beatport) which will be out digitally today and then on vinyl in the middle of January. The EP features a wide variety of remixes from all over the world including fellow Porto Allegre resident Edu K, Berlin big shot Samim, Bavarian bounce maestro Dex (from Malente & Dex fame), Amazonian tribal guru Joao Brasil, Mexican neo-cumbia darling Toy Selectah and Lisboa newcomer Beat Laden. Not to mention the marvellous Finnish duo and remixers du jour Renaissance Man. They bring us a remix of the b-side track “Balanca” filled with Finnish sisu mixed in with tropical beats and chopped up Portuguese rap, it’s gritty and powerful with enough horns to make heads turn on the dancefloor.

Marina Vello (ex Bonde do Role singer) teams up with French chanteusse SoKo on a single that was produced by the Swedish/French duo Radioclit. The “Mum” single is part of a series of 7″s containing unreleased material that IHEARTCOMIX is doing together with Pure Groove. Each single will be limited to 300 copies, so act fast. The artwork was done by acclaimed comic book artist Robert Goodin.

The title track “Mum” is a summery, feelgood little ditty that features a sample from WAR’s “Low Rider”.

Boss In Drama is a producer from Brazil who is working on some tracks for the upcoming Bonde Do Role album. He seems to have some solid connections in Australia aswell since he is producing tracks for KillaQueenz and for the new project of the girls from Gameboy/Gamegirl (called Girls Got Child). He’s going to release his debut EP “Your Favorite EP” for free on January 26th and this track “Favorite Song” gives us a taste of his brand of electropop.
