2015 has been a big year for Dutchman producer, Junktion, with heavily lauded releases for Sleazy Beats Black Ops, Slow Town Records plus an amazing outing on Detroit Swindle’s, Heist Recordings, as Fouk, his collaboration project with Daniel Lesemen. This latest outing for Razor-N-Tape Reserve is no exception and further cements his knack for groovy, organic house that is as funky as it is feel-good. Four cuts span this lovely, transparent-green 12″ record that kicks of with the title track, “Hot & Bothered,” a low-slung gem with chunky percussion and soulful croons. Next up, “I’m Wishin” treads familiar territory with some classic, Stephanie Mills samplage flipped in a very refreshing way followed by my pick of the bunch, “Fling Cleaning,” with it’s sunshine-laced swagger. Closer, “Visions Of You,” wraps things up with a dramatic drop in tempo but keeping the vibes of heavy funk, soul and irresistibility.

For their first ever double-LP outing Razor-N-Tape presents POOLS, with a sun-drenched and laid-back collection of tunes called Innertubes. POOLS, the moniker of Los Angeles duo Thee Mike Bee and DJ Morsecode, craft a sound that conjures up the easy going swagger and soulful grit of the left-most coast. The first two sides of original versions read like an album, perfect for a lazy Sunday rooftop BBQ with beers, bros and blunts, (although no doubt some of these gems will find their way into DJs’ warm-up and boom-bap sets). Sides C & D elevate the juncture to dance floor level, with smooth and varied remixes from RNT stalwarts Luvless and DJ Vas, plus label newcomers thatmanmonkz and Junktion.

DJ Vas’ take on “Tubin” channels his french-touch roots with a chunky, chopped up and funky filtered foray into peak-time disco house, perfect for the clubs. Junktion lends his typical brand of low-slung brilliance to one of the LP’s stand out cuts, “Sew Brand New” with a rolling groove and bucket loads of dusty rhythms. Thatmanmonkz is sparse and dubby with his rub on “One Of These Daze” and Luvless turns in a pumping, Rhodes-laden rework of “3rd Eye” to steal the show.
