The Living Islands – Empires (Sam Tiba Remix)

The self described “most discrete member of Club Cheval“, weed aficionado and general dance music miracle worker Sam Tiba has been making relentlessly unique dance music in 2011, reworking everyone from Crookers side project Dr. Gonzo to French turntablists Birdy Nam Nam and Nightshifters’ very own Lucid.

Now, we’re lucky enough to share an old track Sam Tiba remix that will never see a proper release which has been played out often by Girl Unit, Bok Bok and others. Huge grimey strings, codeine injected dreamy vocals floating around the background and what might be maracas clapping together in rapid succession create something similar to the sound of broken glass on concrete. Big and commanding without being overly noisy, it’s guaranteed to turn heads and shake spines on the dance floor.

Мishka Presents Keep Watch Vol. XXVI: Club Cheval

NYC label Mishka going strong with their Keep Watch mix series, this one sees the French legion known as Club Cheval dropping one stellar mix.

“Although the French electro-madmen of Club Cheval have been very busy performing globally, they’ve taken time out from their incessant partying to graciously hook us up with the newest installment in our Keep Watch series to help promote their current Summer tour. This is clearly a mix made by international nightlife moguls: It features a jacked-up blend of house, Hot 97-esque sexjams, and cerebral techno remixes which make this edition of Keep Watch appropriate for discerning partiers of all different creeds. If we’re to believe what we hear in this selection of tracks, booty-dropping and “Bodytalk” in general are universal languages.

It’s no wonder the mix is so diverse – Club Cheval is a team of four well-respected DJs that all come from different stylistic backgrounds. They’re kind of like the hot boy band of the DJ world in that they’ve got the rock ‘n’ roll one, the retro one, the cool younger one, and the hip-hop one…and they’re all totally dreamy!

You shouldn’t expect any canned radio anthems from this wild crew, though: Panteros666 is a professional drummer who has played with Sexual Earthquake in Kobe as well as The Teenagers, and this intimate familiarity with dirty beats is reflected in his affinity for thumping, tribal percussion in his remixes. Canblaster believes that everything old can be made new again and uses vintage synthesizers and equipment to showcase that idea. Myd‘s fresh take on classic dancefloor goodness has made him a favorite of top-notch DJs Solo, Brodinski, Sinden, and Radioclit. Finally, Sam Tiba drops his hip-hop knowledge in the group’s tracks, tweaking them with bits of ghetto goodness throughout the mix.

Together, their stellar remixes have cropped up in our Keep Watch series in the past, and we’re glad to give them the space to show us what all their talents can do when you turn them loose for an hour or so. They use both their individual and collective skills to showcase their sublimely cut-up tracks on this mix, then diplomatically juxtapose them with R&B of the sing-songy persuasion, as with Omarion’s jump-rope-rhyme catchy “I Think My Girl Is Bi.” The standout tracks come from the group’s own Myd with the slinky “Octodip” as well as Canblaster’s fresh remix of Drop the Lime’s “Hot as Hell,” which will almost certainly help you become fluent in the language of grinding.”

Top Billin For Japan

Our extended family in Finnish crew Top Billin are doing a compilation (that features Club Cheval, Top Billin, Spoek Mathambo, Wool, Lars Moston, Ben Mono etc.) as a fundraiser for those affected by the catastrophe in Japan. Please read below and then buy the compilation, every donation helps.

“OK, you’ve already been to few dance events to raise money Japan and have most likely donated money already, but read this and get your dose of new music while getting a change to help for a small amount (1€ even). Things move quickly in today’s world but the need for help isn’t going away in a couple of weeks. We want to do our part too. So here’s what’s up:

A while a go we had an opportunity to design a compilation exclusively for the Japanese market, that was supposed to come out in April this year. The idea was to make a compilation that would reflect us in 2011, including bits from our back catalogue as well as some unreleased exclusive gems. Our friend Nakura from Tokyo was doing his job as the project manager for this and his friend and our buddy, a DJ and producer named Eccy (awesome music btw) was also taking part in this project. But as we all know Japan was hit with the most horrific disaster in their history, tearing down almost the whole country, leaving thousands dead and even more injured, homeless or without even food. We sat in studio, watching the devastation on TV and wondered what could we do, we have friends there. On that very moment it was clear that we should use this compilation that was designed for Japan, to help Japan.

So now we’re giving it for you in exchange of small (or bigger, your choice) donation that will go directly to Red Cross Japan. We won’t take a penny, 100% goes directly to help the people in need in Japan. Why the Red Cross? Because with them you know money will go to those really in need. If Japan has enough money, then they will help people in Libya, so your money is never lost. We read somewhere some bitter man’s comment that he won’t donate to Japan as their GDP (gross domestic product) is 33.100$ per person, that Japan does not need money. That’s bullshit, the devastation is so big, it will take Japan years to recover. So join us, buy this compilation for as low as 1€ if you’re really broke, or if you got a paying job, maybe pay a bit more. You get dope tunes in exchange. We respect you for your willingness to help. Thank you, arigatou gozaimasu, kiitos.

Big thanks to all the artists involved and Nakura, Eccy, stay strong!”

Tracklist for the compilation + details on how to contribute in other ways can be found after the jump.

Canblaster – XLR8R Mix

French producer/dj Canblaster along with his cohorts in the Club Cheval crew will most likely be the producers to watch out for in 2011, here’s a massive mix that Canblaster just did for XLR8R.

“2010 was a good year for French producer Canblaster (a.k.a. Cédric Steffens), as the Club Cheval resident and former Bubblin’ subject debuted with the Jetpack EP and also dropped a string of hyperactive, genre-hopping remixes for the likes of Spoek Mathambo, Drop the Lime, J-Wow, Teki Latex, and others. Many of those efforts appear on this exclusive mix he’s put together for the XLR8R podcast series, an absolutely stacked DJ session that somehow squeezes in more than 50 tracks, the majority of which are unreleased. It’s the first salvo in what promises to be a frantic 2011 for Canblaster, who next month will be releasing his second EP, Master of Complication, on the Nightshifters label. Whether he’s experiencing sonic ADD or simply allowing his youthful exuberance to run wild, Canblaster’s DJ stylings appear to be just as schizophrenic as his production work, as his podcast bounces between hip-hop, R&B, house, rave, juke, electro, tribal guarachero, and more. Considering that the guy used to compose video game music for a living and cites Basement Jaxx as a major influence, it’s not exactly surprising that fun is always a major component of his musical equation.”

PS. Watch out for his upcoming EP on Nightshifters.

Klipar – Imperial March (video)

Now it’s official: It can be fun on the dark side. You just gotta turn on the disco lights.

No Brainer Records’ third release sees Klipar, who is one half of Zombies For Money (Trouble & Bass), push the Vader to the floor. The package gets rounded off with remixes by Myd (Club Cheval), Gingy (This Is Music), Lewis CanCut (Scattermusic) and Sharkslayer (Top Billin).

Go get it on Beatport.

Sacha Di Manolo – Cannibal

French producer Sacha Di Manolo gives us his new single “Cannibal”, which just came out on Parisian label Ekleroshock Records and here’s the fine sounding infectious remix from Club Cheval member Panteros666 who gives us a synthtastic tribal house output. It’s no wonder his releases are hyped by the likes of Sound Pellegrino, Nightshifters et al.

Underworld – Always Loved A Film (Club Cheval Remix)

Starting the week with a little treat from our friends in French crew Club Cheval, they recently did a remix package of the Underworld track “Always Loved A Film” and the gang makes sure to put their special twisted tropical club spin on it.
