Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

We just received an e-mail from NYC producers/djs Cousin Cole and Pocketknife:

“Our “Tambourine Dream” mix CD has been sold out for a long time now, and Pocketknife and I are hard at work on the sequel. In the mean time, we decided to upload the first one for streaming.”

This folky mix CD was our soundtrack for the better part of this spring and summer so go check it out.

We did a post about RCMP back in February when their tracks made us dream of summer. Now their debut, the “RCMP EP”, is about to drop on Flamin Hotz in a joint venture with Young Robots (street date is June 23rd, vinyl only and it comes backed with remixes from Cousin Cole and Pumpkin Patch). This track “Ibiza, PA” is on that warm, fuzzy tip with discohouse elements of epic proportions.

“RCMP is the creation of DJ Apt One and Relative Q. They make dance music for those who yearn to be unpretentious and animalistic creatures of the discothèque. DJ Apt One, Philadelphia DJ and member of Philadelphyinz, joined with Pittsburgh’s Relative Q in the Spring of 2008 to assemble several remixes. Ultimately, the two saw a mutual understanding of the visceral power of the musical bond between Cold War Europeans and their robot slaves. Studio experimentation led them to record “Mustache Love”, a track which brought a symphony of synths, conga players and strings to bear in a classic, but forward-thinking compositional style. Soon, the sound infiltrated some of the most influential discothèques in the world. It is rumored that babies conceived to this song are being groomed to lead a number of former Soviet republics. Their collaboration produced the body of work that is now known as the RCMP EP. Notable for its sophistication (”Mustache Love”), its cathartic emotional content “(Ibiza, PA”), its soaring grandiosity (”The Bird AKA Ignition”) and its brain-melting infectiousness (”USA Groove”), RCMP has been leaving dance floors aglow in pheremones, sweat and love.”

Another sunday post and more excellent mixes from the Flagrant Fowl camp AKA Pocketknife and Cousin Cole. Here’s the lodown:

“The good folks over at Self-Titled Magazine invited Cousin Cole and I to DJ at their next Oscillations party which happens to be next Thursday over at Studio B. They wanted to showcase some of our upcoming releases too, so I put together a mix of old and new Flagrant Fowl tracks with some current non-Flagrant jams that weaves it all together like a Cosby sweater. We’re excited for you to hear our new remixes, plus recent additons to the Flagrant Fowl family, Youth and Three Card Monte. Check it out!”

Cousin Cole brings us the bump with his new mixtape “Major Rager” that features all Baltimore/Philly/Jersey club music but also new tunes from Cousin Cole plus a track from DJ Get Em, who’s an amazing new producer coming out with a record on Flagrant Fowl this summer.

“I was inspired to make this by my SXSW showcase this Saturday (Baltimore Love Thing, RSVP here) where I get to play with DJ Class, Chavy Boys, Blaqstarr, Nadastrom and Emynd & Bo Bliz. If you’re in Austin you BETTER be at this!!”

Emynd & Young Chris remix EP

BOOM!

Emynd & Young Chris dropping some serious heat with the free digital only remix EP for their anthem track “We Don’t Give A F*ck”. They brought along some of their friends such as Eli Escobar, DJ Ayres, Nadastrom and Cousin Cole for the ride. We had a hard time choosing one of the remixes, but we’re going with the Cousin Cole remix that throws on a horn sample giving the track more of a soulful feel although still maintaining that club action. Grab the whole EP over at Crossfaded Bacon.

The Flagrant Fowl boys, Cousin Cole & Pocketknife, are in a giving mood today with a mailout containing their respective disco-house remixes of Kanye West and Lykke Li. These are yummy…

“Pocketknife & I decided to send out low bitrate mp3s of the songs on our new EP. The version of “Love Lockdown” here is a little different from the EP version, mainly just shorter for home listening.”

After the oh so excellent Cousin Cole Acid Dub(s) of Kanye West track “Champion”, we’re guessing his Flagrant Fowl partner in crime Pocketknife wanted to join on the Kanye remix shenanigans. Here’s Pocketknifes House remix of “Paranoid”.

“I decided to house up “Paranoid” from “808s…” and give it a little extra bump so you can play it out. There’s an outro and a few parts are extended a bit.”

Cousin Cole Acid Dub

Cousin Cole of the Flagrant Fowl fam over in Brooklyn just sent over his dub version of the Kanyeezy track “Champion”.

“For this dub I changed the drum loop, brought up the acid lines, did a new arrangement and reduced the vocals to just a few snippets”.

Amazing stuff as always and as bonus we get the dub as a slow version “…for fans of slow-mo house shit”.
