Modcast #99: Jacques Renault

Jacques Renault? is the post-punk who moved to Chicago and then on to NYC. Somewhere along the line he became a bonafide house/disco dj/producer afficionado (with releases on labels such as DFA, Italians Do It Better, RVNG INTL). He’s been touring the world ever since and putting smiles on the faces of dancefloors + of course making them sweat. This one-hour long mix is the most recent episode of the Modcast series and here we get Jacques dropping tracks that will make you wanna take your clothes off.

Rewards (ft. Solange Knowles) – Equal Dreams (Eddie Mars remix)

Rewards is the solo project from Chairlift co-founder Aaron Pfenning and “Equal Dreams” (released yesterday) is his new single on DFA. The original is an upbeat percussion laced sensual track. Brooklyn based Eddie Mars from Vietcong Disco fame sticks in a thumping bassline that along with the smooth weaved in vocals from Solange Knowles gives the track an even more dreamlike and deep feeling.

Joe Goddard – Gabriel

Joe Goddard (of The 2 Bears and Hot Chip fame, with the aid of London singstress Valentina) brings forth a monster of a house track with vocals that are instantly embedded in your memory which you’ll find yourself singing out loud everywhere you are. “Gabriel” is out now on DFA and Greco-Roman.

Modcast #76 – The Rapture

NYC originators of punk/funk The Rapture will release their new album “In The Grace of Your Love” in September with production coming from Philippe Zdar (of Cassius). Luke Jenner from the band has put together a mix called “The Gospel of Luke” for the Modular Records Modcast series, it’s filled with amazing gospel jams and we guess today is the perfect day for you to enjoy this mix.

Holy-Ghost-Wait-And-See

Wait And See

NYC duo Holy Ghost! are about to drop their self titled debut album (out April 12th on DFA) and it’s been a long time coming, it’s filled with shimmering and discolaced electropop at it’s finest which the track “Wait And See” is a perfect example of.

Acid Washed

Parisian mystery duo Acid Washed releases their debut single “General Motors, Detroit, America” today (on Record Makers) and we have the Gavin Russom (of DFA fame) remix of the flipside track “Snake” which also features a dynamic performance from Berlin based vocalist Barbara Panther. Gavin gives us a throbbing and cowbellfilled 8 minute long latinhouse/disco remix.

BONUS 1: The folks at Record Makers were kind enough to give us a bonus in the form of a contest where the prices are the new Acid Washed 12″ single “General Motors, Detroit, America” and the recent DJ Turzi 12″ single “Buenos Aires”. Just send us the answer to this question “What other Parisian duo has done a remix for the new Acid Washed single?”

BONUS 2: The video for the main single track.

Dragon Slayer

NYC crew Vietcong Disco have been keeping busy this summer with working on new tracks and edits, a new Vietcong DJ mix, a new bigger space for their parties and they’re beginning to put together a live DJ set that will include synthesizers, tape echo, samplers and records. Their latest release is an EP called “Dragon Slayer” and it’s on that DFA/Rong disco/house tip, the title track gives us 6 minutes of blissed out, feel good disco.

Caught Up

Crazy P – Caught Up (Still Going Vox remix)

Crazy P is a 5-piece from England that started way back in 1996, “Caught Up” is their latest single release (out on 2020 Vision Records soon) and on it they get an epic 8 minute meeting of disco house from the NYC duo Still Going (consists of Rub-N-Tug’s Eric Duncan and Olivier Spencer, watch out for their upcoming “Spaghetti Circus” 12″ on DFA).

Love The Nite Away

I can’t for the life of me grasp why we didn’t post this back when it dropped. Berliner DJ Kaos links up with excellent Gothenburg duo and Italians Do It Better associates Tiedye for the remix of “Love The Nite Away” and they create the jam of the summer!
