The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love? (A-Trak Dub For Mehdi)

A-Trak brings forth an exquisite dub version of his remix for that new The Rapture single “How Deep Is Your Love?”, this is a slow but steady builder with squelchy, nasty synthwork and towards the end that’s when things really kick off.

“I did this remix over the summer, and when I was close to finishing it I played it to my friend, the irreplaceable DJ Mehdi. We often played each other our productions for feedback. As it turns out he and Riton were visiting New York so they stopped by my apartment. I was working on the main version of the remix, the vocal version. I knew I would make a few alternate edits during the mixdown. The funny thing was, Mehdi’s favorite part was the ending! He and Riton suggested that I have that part come in earlier. My reaction was: that would work well for the dub version. And sure enough, when I finished mixing it down I made a dub with their suggestion. When I sent it to Mehdi shortly after, he responded (as a joke) that I should call it “Dub For Mehdi”. He included it in his “Tunisian Summer” mix. And then, as we all know, the unimaginable happened and we lost our dear friend. The least I can do now is name the edit after him. This one’s for you, Memed.”

“Back in 2006, DJ Mehdi’s hommage to Dilla
we did something like 200 promo CDs fro friends
I think it’s time for this music to be shared and enjoyed by all of us
I still can’t believe what’s happening, so I press play and I listen to my best friend’s music.

Jay Dee rest in peace

Based on the DONUTS album concept, these are demos, out-takes and unreleased gems from various records I worked on before and during the making of LUCKY BOY, my next album. Stuff comes from MEGALOPOLIS, 113 DEGRES and SHEITAN soundtrack mainly, but some is older too. Hope you enjoy these rough mixes and un-polished sounds, as I pay hommage to “one of the greatest minds to ever make beats” : Mr James Yancey, better known as JAY DEE, also know as DILLA.”

Aeroplane – Big Boys Don’t Cry

“Hi all,

I’m not good with words. But somehow since Tuesday I couldn’t think right and something needed to get out. Music being the only medium I know how to use, here it is.

It’s called ” Big Boys Don’t Cry ”

Once again, my thoughts go out to all my friends who are going through hard times right now.”

Eli Remixes Cover 400

Love Thing

We’ve been following New York based producer/dj Eli Escobar for a couple of years now and he just dropped his brand new “Love Thing” remix EP on Plant Music which happens to feature some heavy remixes from top producers such as DJ Mehdi, Runaway, Mike Simonetti and John Selway. Eli himself also took a go and did his own amazing rework of the track, sexy pianodriven disco/house at its finest with some sax business thrown in to take the sexiness up a notch.

Dj Mehdi – Dear Summer: 33 Minutes Of Sunshine Mix

DJ Mehdi also made a summer mixtape, or maybe we should say that it’s more of an end of summer mixtape but as always he brings heat.

“Peeps,
In the spirit of the season, to celebrate the holidays coming to an end, and to announce my ALL NIGHT LONG special night in Paris on September 3rd, I prepared this little mixtape (photo and artwork by So-Me. Yes, that’s me swimming in there). You might know how I do now: a bit of rap, a lot to dance to, some new, some old, everything black party music. And a couple of Carte Blanche exclusives, peace to my main man Riton.

It’s called DEAR SUMMER: 33 MINUTES OF SUNSHINE. I had much, much fun mixing this, I hope you like it as much as I do.”

Bumblebeez (DJ Mehdi & Busy P remix)

The Australian hip hop/electro/rock group Bumblebeez have been getting alot of blog love lately, mostly due to the release of their “Rio” single (that features remixes from big wig names such as Crookers and Herve). This remix of their track “Pump Up The Bass” sees the dynamic french duo, DJ Mehdi and his label boss Busy P take on the decks for a slow paced electro rocker.
