Drake ft. The Weeknd – Crew Love (Shlohmo Remix)

Shlohmo has answered The Weeknd‘s call to post a studio version of his remix of Drake’s “Crew Love.” Uploaded on Soundcloud only hours ago, the slow and sexy track already boasts almost 5K plays. Listen and download below.

Crew Love (Shlohmo Remix)

“Crew Love” might be the catchphrase from 2011 that’ll stick around for the next decade or so, which says just as much about Drake + The Weeknd’s ability to craft unforgettable choruses as much as the sociological function of slang in youth culture.

Anywayyy, Shlohmo recently premiered this little gem of a cough syrup injected dragged out remix at Los Angeles’ WEDIDIT Festival at the end of January. Fingers crossed it gets the Weeknd approved official release ASAP.

Drake Feat. Rihanna – Take Care

Sooo, the new Drake album leaked today, and this is maybe one of the most interesting cuts from it – heavily using the source material from Jamie XX’s remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s “I’ll Take Care Of You” track.

This makes three Drake songs that’ve worked themselves into the fabric of XL Recordings’ recent material, following the Jai Paul “BTSTU” sampling “Dreams Money Can Buy” and Drizzy’s impromptu rework of SBTRKT’s “Wildfire”.

Hearing Rihanna sing Gil’s lines without the rough scratchy deep voice that we’re accustomed to is a bit jarring, but definitely has its own appeal. Take Care is out Nov. 15th, or on the internet right now.

Marvin’s Room (DJ Dodger Stadium Edit)

When Drake calls out “I’m just sayin’, you could do better” on the crooning chorus of “Marvin’s Room”, most would assume that it’s directed at an ex lover who he happens to be drunk dialing from the club in a rare moment of existentially charged drunken loneliness.

But perhaps Samo Sound Boy and Jerome from LOL Boys (who together make up DJ Dodger Stadium) heard something else in those lines, maybe a call to revise the track into something even more emotionally resonant while adding some swelling club friendly drum patterns and pitching up the vocals to a chipmunk-on-helium level?

No way to be sure, but this track precedes the launch of Body High’s first EP – the new label that Samo & Jerome founded in an attempt to give a voice to underground dance music in the US. Definitely worth exposing yourself to is XLR8R’s recent interview with Samo Sound Boy where he talks about the positioning of the new label, saying:

“There’s something going on in the States, and it is really changing and getting better. [Body High] is our piece of the puzzle… We don’t exactly know what we’re doing right now, but people are willing to help, and it’s coming together”

Drake – Marvin’s Room (DJ Dodger Stadium Edit)

The first DJ Dodger Stadium EP is out Oct. 4th on Body High.

Daily Motivation: Marvin’s Room (Chopped Up Not Slopped Up By OG Ron C)

Imagine you’re home alone in your apartment, maybe you’ve just finished doing your toenails and you’re lying on your bed staring out the window absentmindedly thinking about existentialism or something, and then the phone rings.

You pick it up, and hear someone on the other end that sounds like Drake, if he were a lethargic demon from the seventh layer of hell. And he’s moaning to you “I’mmmmm justttt sayinnnnnn, you could do bettaaaaaarrrrrr”. How terrifying would that be?

Fortunately, OG Ron C made a chopped up, not slopped up edit that captures everything good about Marvin’s Room without Drake actually drunk dialing you at 3:30 in the morning after he drank a whole bottle of cough syrup.
