Lithuanian producer/dj Vytis Gruzdys AKA Boyfriend gained notoriety with his excellent edit of Rusko’s track “Everyday” and the support of the Mad Decent crew, he is definitely one of the moombahton producers to watch out for when you consider the high quality of all the tracks he’s releasing.

Together with Ophex he runs Club Tropicana, a tropical bass themed blog, label and club night in Vilnius/Lithuania and London/UK. Ophex was actually the first Lithuanian to produce tunes within tropical bass. Already having an album released along with several official remixes, he is one of the leading baile funk artists in eastern Europe. Now, they teamed up for a remix of the track “Vem E Du” by Swedish act Panda Da Panda and it’s a evil synth based smasher of enormous proportions.

BONUS: A tasty edit that Boyfriend did of the Apache & Shy FX track “Original Nuttah”:

Usually when I see a track that’s been remixed and then re-edited, I shudder a bit because of the old “too many cooks spoil the soup” adage (or my own modern, less catchy incarnation: “too many re-edits ruin the spirit and ingenuity of the original production”). HOWEVER, that’s definitely not the case here, perhaps because Jazzanova’s original productions have never sucked me in. I chart it to the fact that their name sounds like a soft classics radio channel?

Regardless, messy haired Danilo Plessow, brainchild of Motor City Drum Ensemble is maybe the most trustworthy person to hand your material over to, and extra edit hands on deck Morid and Hifi3000 take care to make sure that the pacing and vibe of this track greatly surpasses the original. Geez, the violins?! The addictive but subtle percussion snapping in tune to the healthy bassline? It’s always a pleasant surprise when excessive editing manages to build something up instead of chip away at it.

Mark E’s debut album “Stone Breaker” on Spectral Sound veered away from a craft he’d come damn close to perfecting: the re-edit. A quick browse through youtube or the “alt disco” section of your local record store will unearth pounds and pounds of sweetly refined sample material that Mark E has seamlessly reassembled in a way that keeps the excitement of the source while crafting a completely separate final product. R+B Drunkie was actually the single that launched now internationally sought after Golf Channel Recordings’ label.

So, if the tracks on Stone Breaker missed the spot a little bit for you, or just felt kind of 4/4 house thumpy without the magic spark needed to keep them rolling, maybe it’s a good idea to turn back to the edit, more specifically, Jacques Renault’s smooth synth stab and cowbell incorporating edit.

Hot on the heels of his mouthwatering food-porn picture disc series with Public Release, this one is definitely something to Jacques your body (sorry, couldn’t resist) to.
