Burial – Shell of Light (Shlohmo Remix)

Summer mornings in an apartment without air conditioning are full of those hazy borderline fever dreams that feel like your dehydrated brain is rattling around your skull, knocking meat sized chunks loose in the process.

To remedy that, this Shlohmo reworking of Burial’s classic “Shell of Light” track feels like immersing your body in an underwater cavern of icewater – subdued high hats and buzzing background synth don’t do anything to overpower the melancholic allure of the original. Listen to it in the morning.

The Rapture – How Deep Is Your Love (Emporer Machine Edit)

How deep is my love for this Rapture re-edit by future disco overlords The Emperor Machine? Pretty deep. This track avoids diving too far into the deep end of the pool though, and gives a tidied up edit that trims the edges around the Rapture’s refreshingly classic sounding new single- with more bongos, naturally.

Motor City Drum Ensemble

Stuttgart producer Motor City Drum Ensemble (AKA Danilo Plessow) reworks the track “Le Cortège Et Course” (originally done by French film music composer Philippe Sarde and taken from the 1972 film “Cesar et Rosalie”). This fun edit pulsates with a steady beat and a twisting flute loop which is all broke off with high pitched shrieks. This is the exclusive full length version which can only be found on the double vinyl LP of the just released Motor City Drum Ensemble DJ-Kicks compilation.

Rizzla – Perreo Apocalíptico

Shame on us for missing this fantastic edit DJ Gregory’s “Tropical Soundclash” from Fade To Mind alumni, recent remixer of the up-and-coming Pelican Fly label and total heartthrob Rizzla when he posted it up a month ago. Here, he turns the original track into the kinda thing that queer vampires might listen to while trying on clothes in the mirror before going out, glistening with a sheen of mystical apocalyptic nervousness. Spectacular stuff, grab a free download from Soundcloud below:

Stevie Nicks – “Smiling At You” (Young Edits Going Home Version)

Appropriate that the graphic decorating Kojak Giant Sound’s latest release is a palm tree, because this one feels like stumbling ‘pon a tiny disco club oasis in the middle of the Sahara on a hot July day might feel like.

We’ve raved about the last Young Edits vinyl release on Foot & Mouth, and Luke Fosky’s exceptionally tasteful reworks of Kate Bush and Arthur Russell have restored a lot of my faith in the “soundcloud edit” as a viable genre. The fun continues here, where Stevie Nick’s vocals get wrapped up in some windswept drum patterns and echoing whistles, feeling faithful to the original but like a whole different beast at the same time.

Maybe Tim Sweeney puts it best in his feedback – “The Stevie Nicks edit makes the girls and gays in NYC go crazy… who needs anything else??”

B-Side is a twangy edit of The Catch’s “25 Years” that’s also worth investigating, especially when that saxaphone kicks in, damn.

The Touch – Sermon + R. Kelly Bootleg

The Touch – Sermon from The Touch on Vimeo.

If the brooding, slightly off pitch minimal pop tint of The Touch’s new Sermon EP on Kitsune doesn’t grab you with its purty imagery, then the sewer dwelling remix monstrosity that Renaissance Man have woven out of some stark percussion and swollen vocal chops will absolutely do the trick. Out on Kitsune now.

Plus, if you missed it several years ago now, The Touch provide a robotic tribute to R. Kelly with their endearing bootleg edit of “The World’s Greatest”, obviously a respectful tribute to the Pied Piper of R&B.

Can You Seen Straight?

Those Brooklyn bandits in The Death Set have a new single out on Ninja Tune, “Can You Seen Straight?” is an arenastatus anthem and features this remix by Moombahton inventors and pioneers Nadastrom and they give us a summer jam consisting of groovy electrobased moombahton which also happens to be the most radiofriendly we’ve heard from these two outfits.

BONUS: Nadastrom just did an edit of everyone’s favorite Canadian – The Weeknd.

Frank Ocean – Novacane (Dan M edit)

Danish producer/dj and Mothership affiliate Dan M dips his production skills in the honeyjar better known as “Novacane” originally done by Odd Future crooner Frank Ocean. Dan goes deep with his edit and in the process adds some extra thump to the track, the bittersweet feeling of the original stays intact and this feels like the soundtrack to when you’re trying to get home from some after hours club out in a desolate part of town.

Hey Today! – Minor

Hamburg based energetic electro duo Hey Today! will release their new 80′s tinged single “Minor” on Kitsuné next week (June 6th to be exact) and it’s packed with hot remixes from producers such as Para One, Blackstrobe, Abstraxion + an edit from duo themselves.

BONUS: Grab the TWR72 remix.

BLK.ADONIS PROMO

Bonjay – Stumble (Blk.Adonis Live Edit)

Hard to introduce Boston based Blk.Adonis any better than he does himself.

Blk.Adonis is the soundtrack to a clandestine industrial dancehall massive where a murder has just taken place but the DJ refuses to stop the music… It’s “Skinny Puppy Riddim,” if such a riddim existed. Hieronymus Bosch-esque scenes of terror at a vogue ball. Harrowing whispers about the pleasures of anonymous sex over dem bow drums and metallic Lustmord atmospherics. These are no “witch house” songs for teenagers to shuffle aimlessly to. Blk.Adonis is black power, and this power works the dancefloor, even if it’s the dancefloor of the leather bar. It’s blood, sweat and cum- hold the tears, the club doesn’t need them. And if it ever gets too dark to see, let your ears guide your feet and let Blk.Adonis lead you further into black perfection.

The two tracks we’ve got today are kind of like fever nightmares condensed into mp3s. First up, Bonjay’s late-night dancehall ode to putting your lighter up in the club is transformed into a satanic dirge sung by The Knife’s backup choir from hell. While it’s hard to best the anthem status of the original, dragging the tune down into the seventh layer of hell is kind of a good look.

As a bonus, Madonna’s “Justify My Love” is warped into the kind of thing that you hear inside your head slightly after smelling burnt toast and just before collapsing to the ground. We’ll be watching these productions with much interest.
