As an ode to small rural towns in northern Sweden, Swedish outfit Småstaden (Klas Granström and Anders Nilsson) focuses on stories and working with artists from said small towns. A perspective – especially within hip hop and r’n’b – that’s been sadly overlooked in terms of coverage in Swedish mainstream media.
The first single “Varje Liten del” (will be released tomorrow December 13th on Grind Records) features Jokkmokk rapper Kitok and Luleå musician Petter Granberg (who has worked with Amason, Movits! and has also worked as a producer for El Perro Del Mar), the track itself is an enticing and suggestive sounding vocoder and synth laced slow-mo r’n’b jam.
Our friends in Swedish electronic pop/r’n’b/hip hop trio Blänk releases their first new single in almost three years, “Tears Run Dry” is a achingly beautiful collaboration with Noonie Bao, a r’n’b driven track that drips of melancholia which you can hear leaking out from your laptop speakers.
The track is taken from their forthcoming album “Only Built For Northern Lights” which is due to drop March 9th via Grind Records.
Winter is coming is not just the tag line for Game Of Thrones, it can also be used to pinpoint the sound of Northern Sweden trio Blänk.
The tracks are influenced by cold weather, big dreams, deep house, hip-hop, pop and of course three eclectic personalities (Klas on production, Lina from The Touch on vocals and Simon rapping) with a commonality of northern roots they form Blänk. This EP is the first in a series of free EPs from Blänk during 2012, all to be released on Grind Records.
“Our latest effort is a collection of songs conceptualized and recorded during a stint in Atlanta by the whole Blänk crew. We all piled into Simon’s tiny apartment on the north side
and drank, partied, laughed, cried, argued and poured our hearts out, resulting in our new EP “Aurinko Rising in the North: i ATL”.”
