Another week, another fabulously groovy, Discobelle mix! Clocking in at the #159 spot in our exclusive series, we have Costa Rican disco impresario, Napoleon. As head honcho of the Wonderful Times label, he’s showcased such artists as Luvelss, VinylAddicted, Hotmood, Buzz Compass and Martin Hayes. As a producer, the young latino has scored releases on such illustrious imprints as Kolour LTD, Editorial Records, Editor’s Kutz and Masterworks Music, to name a few.

Napoleon turns in a fantastic mix chalked full of groovy, cosmic sounds… a perfect soundtrack for the changing seasons.

Fresh faced wunderkind, Cody Currie, looks to Better Listen Records to host his sophomore EP after a stunning debut on Pusic late in 2016. Clocking in at just 22 years of age, this London based producer has firmly established himself as one to watch in 2017. The staggering quality of his efforts thus far are shocking and it’s no wonder that the DC imprint quickly snapped up a grip of his tracks for 12″ release.

Unsurprisingly, we felt a similar urgency when the promo for the “Beer Machine EP” came across our desk and eagerly jumped at the chance to offer a premiere stream. On tap, we “Dynamite! (Disco Mix) for your listening pleasure and we have to admit, it’s got us giddy with excitement and doing the seated shuffle in our chairs at present! A chunky, dust-covered break beat opens the scene, joined shortly by filtered bass grooves and jangly guitars while hazy chords and arps punctuate the layered rhythms.

It’s ace tackle that leans heavily towards the productions of luminaries like Brame & Hamo or Fouk… something which, I for one, certainly ain’t mad at!

Yes, yes kiddies…it’s that time of the week were we unleashing fresh sounds and fresh beats with our latest outing in the fast lane of global premieres (echo, echo, echo, echo)! This tasty installment comes courtesy of fresh-faced French producer, Ethyène and our friends over at the Kolour LTD imprint. The young, Lyon-based fellow has been a rising talent on our radar with a serious list of accolades already attributed to his alias. Ethyène caught my attention when he dropped his debut release, the “Obsessions EP” which also launched the Australian imprint, Kyoku Records. With his third solo release on the horizon, the “Clubs, Rubs + Dubs EP” for Kolour LTD, plus contributions to the burgeoning Moonrise Hill Material, which he co-runs, we can expect nothing but good things in the future. Now, to get to the track!

“Time Won’t Change” is a funky, mid-tempo groover that features lovely, organic percussion and shimmering sample/filter work. The hip-shaking claps introduce visions of Soul Train dance floors and feel good party vibes. A tickling bass line carries us forward while a cheeky appropriation of an SOS Band vocal creates a catchy refrain. Dropping later this week, February 24th, keep them peepers peeled and pre-order below.

Dropping in for this weeks installment of the Discobelle mix is Shreveport, Louisiana based producer, Walter Jones. Mr. Jones has been composing music since the late Seventies and has amassed a solid catalog of work spanning multiple decades and genres. His heavily lauded debut on Westbound Music, “All God’s Children,” cemented his place in modern dance circles and subsequent outings for Permanent Vacation, Supersoul and DFA only went on to expand his audience.

We’re super stoked to present this new mixtape from the man… an impressive, 80 minute foray into deep and groovy sounds, mixed live and offered to you here. Stay up and keep your eyes peeled for his upcoming 12″ ep on the Whiskey Pickle label.

Folamour has been setting the stereos ablaze here at the Discobelle offices since he burst onto our radar last year with an incredible missive for the new minted, Make Believe Disco. Since then, the French beatsmith has been hard at work with his hands in not one, but two labels; Moonrise Hill Material and For Heaven Use Only. FHUO is a solo operation, helmed by Folamour, nee` Bruno, and here we feature a super jazzy cut from the label’s forthcoming, second release.

A split disc that sees Folamour on the a-side and label mate, Parviz, handle the b-side, the “Alerte A Babylone EP” bears all the hallmarks that have come to be associated with Bruno and his ilk. Chunky drums, bulky synthesizers and deftly manipulated samples all blend together to create some lovely, deep house jams. On “Very First Touch,” live drum loops and crowd noises are greeted by ethereal pads while Rhodes riffs and squawking trumpets filter in and our of this uptempo groove.

Rey Aguilar’s bodytalk label hits their seventh release with a lovely, remix package for Chris Forteir’s, Approved Electronic Device moniker. Enlisting the help of A-list talent to handle the duties, we get versions from the likes of MANIK, Brett Johnson and Aguilar as well. Brett Johnson takes the reigns with a triple threat of treatments on offer. His pulsating, “Main Mix” version is the crown jewel with its layers of arpeggios and rolling 808’s… there are also the “Stripped Down Dub” and “Stripped Down Dub – AED Dub” where Approved Electronic Device adds his own flares to the final product.

MANIK steps up next to take us deep into the East borough with his “Brooklyn Mix…” a tribal infused rework with staccato drum programming and loads of vintage percussion and dubbed out vocals. Closing things out, we have label owner, Rey Aguilar, submitting his remix of “Fluture Toon,” the only remix to appear on the EP of said tune. Channelling a similar, vintage flare as MANIK’s version, Aguilar crafts a strong take that will surely make any dance floor work.

Straight out the gate comes upstart, D.C. imprint, Better Listen Records. Founded by local DJ/promoter/blogger, Martin Miguel Fernandez, the wee label puts it’s best foot forward with an inaugural release from City Fly cohort, The Last Trip To Gandahar and his “Echoes Of Paradise EP.” Here, we take the A1 for an exclusive premiere in “Bartz Groove,” a jazzy, piano driven cut that blends saxophone loops and vocal refrains to a lovely result.

Hypnotic vibes abound on all four of the EP cuts which should be available for preview coming soon. From what we’ve learned of the label, 2017 has some big things in store and we’re super excited to watch this imprint grow into one of our new favorites. Follow them below of future release dates, guest mixes and more.
