In Flagranti – Worse For Wear (Punks Jump Up Remix)

Turning their subject matter from the backroom of seedy Brooklyn peepshows to flea markets full of old clothes, In Flagranti’s “Worse For Wear” EP takes a chunk of vintage fetishism and mixes it with Sasha Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor’s interest in old disco / new disco sounds. In addition to having the first In Flagranti album cover in years that you can show your mom without making her faint, it’s also got remixes from Mixhell and a particularly good effort from London’s fashion minded Punks Jump Up.

They take the sewer grate hiss and handclaps of the original and throw some cowbell into the mix, while still leaving the pitched down churning vocals from the indiscriminately gendered singer. The end product sounds like how wearing a dirty shirt feels sometimes: gross, but way too comfortable to change into anything else.

In Flagranti – Worse For Wear (video)

In Flagranti have their aesthetic down so well that hearing their music conjures up a visual image of a dirty malt liquor stained Brooklyn sidewalk outside the Meat Packing District in the early 80s. It feels like a homage to New York back when your parents were in nightclubs that had mirrors on the ceiling and DJs who talked to the crowd in between songs.

Now, Sasa Crnobrnja and Alex Gloor are following up on 2006′s “Wronger Than Anyone Else” and 2009′s vintage porn-chic idolizing “Brash & Vulgar” with “Worse for Wear.”

“Flea markets and recycling parts of our production are really at the center of this album,” says Crnobrnja. “I like things to be old and run-down,” added Alex Gloor, who still resides in Basel. “So I let myself be inspired by one of my favorite places to spend time: 1970s- 80s New York City.”

Preview all the tracks from the album above, an abundance of gritty basslines and degenerative dance music moments.

sake

Jupiter – Sake (minimix)

Parisian duo Jupiter (who, much like a surprisingly high amount of people releasing music on Kitsune, are a couple) deliver a well deserved homage to my current hometown of Osaka’s choice drink 酒, also known as hangover inducing sake.

Remixes hit the spot perfectly, with contributions from Blackjoy, In Flagranti, and a slice of perfection by reunited French dream team Para One & Tacteel. Check out a free downloadable minimix below, and grab your pre-order on iTunes.

Party Motion

Plant Music continues with their steady stream of solid releases and now it’s time for the Calgary outfit known to the world as Smalltown Romeo and their second release on Plant Music “Party Motion” which will be out exclusively on Beatport December 3rd.

“As expected, the boys have created a tune that reflects their all-over-the-place musical tastes, from disco to hip-hop to house to electro, and this one is suitable for many different dance floors. The package comes with the much sought-after Malente remix which has already seen massive support from Diplo as well as tastemakers like Brodinski, Drop The Lime and Sinden. This mix should come with a face-melt warning. Don’t say we didn’t give you a heads up! In Flagranti, always sure to take things in a unexpected direction, comes through with a mix that veers the song towards disco but really stomps – a disco stomper? Yes. Stones Throw’s James Pants delivers a crazy tropical bass workout that is quite a departure from anything he’s done thus far – slightly left field, clever but dance floor friendly at the same time. Finally, Plant newcomer Grandtheft turns “Party Motion” into big room electro house but as always, keeps it classy. What’s that, did you just ask about the “Party Motion” video? After the sensational animated video for “Boom-Ha” it only makes sense. Rest assured, it’s almost in the can, again directed by Matt Luckhurst!

Mobroder

Mobroder is a new project from rapper Spankrock with producers DJ Hoff and Blu Jemz which was inspired by their love of early 80′s Italian electro. Scion A/V released their remix EP for the funky track “Rush” about a month ago with remixes coming from some buzzing producers like In Flagranti, Turbotito, Nile Delta and Da Hardy Boyz. Philly rapstress Amanda Blank drops a verse on the b-side track “Love Duet” (remixed by Shazam). This is a cheeky and fun EP which we guarantee that you’ll enjoy, grab the whole thing below.
