Modcast #99: Jacques Renault

Jacques Renault? is the post-punk who moved to Chicago and then on to NYC. Somewhere along the line he became a bonafide house/disco dj/producer afficionado (with releases on labels such as DFA, Italians Do It Better, RVNG INTL). He’s been touring the world ever since and putting smiles on the faces of dancefloors + of course making them sweat. This one-hour long mix is the most recent episode of the Modcast series and here we get Jacques dropping tracks that will make you wanna take your clothes off.

Everything Falls Apart

New Jersey based founder of labels Troubleman and Italians Do It Better Mike Simonetti travels the world playing obscure disco/house, on occasion he also remixes tracks. Here’s his take on “Everything Falls Apart” from L.A quartet The One Am Radio that focuses on the whisperlike vocals but injects the track with a steady beat for all you late night dancers.

BONUS: Kanyeezy also gets a remake.

CIRCLEDSUN-1

Circled Sun

Chromatics with an excellent track that apparently was mistakenly left off the download card that came with the deluxe vinyl version of their “Night Drive” LP.

Taximix

The awesome Anton Qlint (one half of the Italians Do It Better affiliated Gothenburg based duo Tiedye) just sent over this new mix (that he did for his gig on Friday at the club Tell Your Taxidriver Erste Liga at Erste Liga in Munich) of hard to find Scandinavian disco/prog/pop etc. and also the unreleased Tiedye remix of a track from Swedish group Syket (second song in the mix).

Mike Simonetti

Italians Do It Better head honcho Mike Simonetti gives us his latest mix entitled “African Connection”. Spring is in the air!

“…It is mostly African disco lps and 45′s mixed with some Caribbean and Jamaican tunes in there for good measure. No real mixing here, just kicking back and fading in and out for maximum early Spring vibes, so dont expect a dj spectacular here – it’s all about the selection. As a matter of fact, this mix was done while playing with the big man on the floor– true multitasking…”

BONUS: His funktastic edit of the Jackson 5 track “Express Yourself”.

Bottin

Italian producer Bottin is the latest addition to the disco crazed people over at Italians Do It Better and his “No Static” single is essential. This mix he did to promote the release is perfect for lazy sundays.

Mike Simonetti – Albuterol mix

Mike Simonetti of Troubleman Unlimited/Italians Do It Better fame just dropped this mix.

“OK, here’s the backstory. early in 2008 mike and johnny went into the studio to work on stuff, fuck around a little with edits, music etc… Mike brought a box of records into the studio, and they picked out some songs. We came up with an idea to collaborate on a mix of edits. We did a bunch of edits on the fly (no computers, just a few cdjs) and did a mix. At the time, Mike was staying at Adam and Natties house and as we all know he’s allergic to cats, and he was pretty fucked up the whole time he was there, in a constant state of “almost asthma attacks”…The typical Portland weather (DAMP RAIN) didnt help either. Plus we listened to chopped and screwed hip hop pretty much exclusively (as it is the shit Johnny listens to being from Houston and all). The mix you hear is the result of some of my time in Portland in early 2008…Pitched down tracks for your enjoyment…Done in a single take, Mike and Johnny knocked out some edits and tried to mix them. Some of these are proper “edits”, others are simple extensions of the good parts for djing purposes, and a few tracks were perfect the way they were. Shit, some are even edits of other edits!!! The original tape was all but lost, but i found this on my ipod on the plane and dumped it to my computer. I totally forgot about it. you may have heard some of these versions in a live nightclub setting when i was djing. small world, right? I am going to post a few edits for you all to download later this week if you want (let us know) …Can you guess which one of these songs on this mix is one of Mike’s favorite disco trax of all time?”

Fan Death

Sorry for our absence, just been busy. Here’s a track that’s been on heavy rotation here at Discobelle HQ (and all over the blogs + discussed on Grindin) for a few days now. Fan Death is the group, the track is named “Veronica’s Veil” and it’s in that Italians Do It Better retro new wave/disco vein that we all love.
