Pariah – Left Unsaid

That hot little two lettered recognizable label that relaunched five years ago is finally getting a chance to try their hand at the compilation game (or for the first time since 1989′s “In Order To Dance” at least) with R&S’s forthcoming IOTDXI collection.

The first half consists of some pristine dancefloor moments from the last two years – kicking off with Model 500′s “OFI” remixed by Bullion, and also including some James Blake, Lone, Blawan, and Vondelpark tracks that you’ve probably wifed up someone on the dancefloor to.

The second CD is full of unreleased material from the R&S camp, including this stony, rustling static anthem from Pariah that kind of sounds like someone’s chipping away at a stone tablet in the middle of a wheat field. It’s only at about the four minute mark that things start feeling a little hectic, rising distorted horns slowly drowning out all the other sound. Hear this on a good set of speakers ASAP.

IOTDXI is out on October 31st.

James Blake & Justin Vernon – Fall Creek Boys Choir

Somebody better grab the internet a box of tissues, because this one is going to have blogs everywhere metaphorically blowing their loads.

Rightfully so though, Justin Vernon sounds like an angel and Blake strikes a halfway point between the “blubstep” of his debut vocal album and the near-rhythmless chaos of recent Hemlock offering “Pan/Order”, suggesting that he has this “making emotionally resonant beautiful haunting melancholy music” thing locked down pretty well.

hotflush

Hotflush – Back and 4th Compilation + Boddika – Warehouse

Scuba and his Hotflush label have, since 2003, had experimentation and genre-collision etched into the very structures of everything they do. Putting out key tunes by the core pioneers of dubstep, but also by true outliers like Mount Kimbie, Joy Orbison and Sepalcure, Hotflush has a consistence in diversity: multiple sounds united by true craftsmanship and high-tech expression of complex emotion.

And now, Hotflush is releasing

BACK AND 4TH on April 4th, a compilation featuring productions from Roska, FaltyDL as well as a collection of essentials from Hotflush’s catalogue with tracks and remixes from James Blake, Untold, Pangaea, 2562 and more.

Free to share with you is the aptly titled “Warehouse” by Boddika, which captures the mood and feel of a gigantic metallic room pounding with percussion and buzzing synth saws. It’s one of the more menacing cuts off the album, but still packs enough punch to get a warehouse of people flush and sweating.
