Berlin based imprint, Odd Socks says it all in the name: it’s something a bit strange and wonky, yet essential… just like your little feetsie covers. Stepping out for the first time this year, the label put together this dandy four-tracker showcasing a tight collection of remixes from the likes of Max Graef, IMYRMIND, James Creed and Josh T.

Up first, Max Graef takes on “KDIM” by Glenn Astro & IMYRMIND and channels some grainy, lo-fi boogie stylings, like if Dam Funk made house music.IMYRMIND’s remix of “Matte” from Saine is a stuttering exercise in filter cut-offs and sparkling arpeggios. The James Creed remix of “Fleabag” from Josh T. & Arkist is my pick of the bunch with its swagger-laden bassline and confident swing. Josh T. turns in a version of Josh Creed’s “Undone” to round out the package.

Forthcoming this month!

The third release from freshly started Berlin based label Odd Socks comes courtesy of Berlin based producer/dj James Creed. “Top Pocket EP” is born from a deep appreciation of lazy grooves, crispy sounding percussion and tumbling synth tones with the occasional handclap and soft sung vocals along with piano tones, the EP has already seen support from the likes of Axel Boman, Homework, Round Table Knights etc. and it will first be released as limited 10″ vinyl with a digital version to be released later in this month.

In support of the new release, and in anticipation of their upcoming shows at Hive, Zurich on December 27th and Panorama Bar, Berlin on January 18th, label owners Creed & Stone have supplied magnificent third installment of the Oddcast series.

When Luca Lozano’s first EP sampling 20th Century Band’s steel drum definitive classic “Heaven and Hell” came out back in January, it immediately shot to the top of my “on repeat” playlist. Transforming the original’s melancholy reflections on humanity into a fog-machine filled clap inducing house stomper that kept the impact of the chorus intact, if not slightly re-arranged, it was an instant winter anthem.

Now it’s hard to believe that Klasse Recordings are nearing their 10th release only eight months later in the form of KLS009, a new EP from Luca Lozano. Titled the “OUT OF STEP” EP, it’s a moody old school tinged double track release featuring reworkings from Detroit native Kris Wadsworth and Tel Aviv’s Red Axes which will definitely be taking a prime position in your record bag (the Ian Mackaye cover art alone is deserving).

The EP sees a full release on both vinyl and digital formats on the 9th of September, and September 3rd also sees the return of the Klasse Recordings label party, KLASSE NACHT. This time the guest is Mr. Rafael Kakudo, the Polish born DJ and producer whose recent ‘Work EP’ is now on its umpteenth vinyl re-press, after seeing support and applause from mainstage players such as DJ Sneak, Shlomi Aber and Josh Wink. Playing alongside him will be the Klasse staples, including Luca Lozano, Mr. Ho, Johanna Knutsson and James Creed.

We’re also hosting a little competition over here at Discobelle – anyone who answers this question can score a free vinyl copy of KLS009 and a snazzy Klasse tote bag:

Which band originally wrote the song ‘Out of Step’?

Email your answers here before September 3rd and check out a video teaser for the release and some Soundcloud snippets below!

The lovely Johanna Knutsson is originally from Malmö but is now part of the Klasse Recordings massive down in Berlin and here’s her debut offering, the 4 track “Heavy Baby” EP which sounds absolutely fantastic and is packed with soulful techhouse to give you that warm and bubbly feeling.
