Oliver $ – Doin’ Ya Thang

Dedicated to all the DJs worldwide who’re comfortable with being “just up here fucking around”, Oliver $’s new jam for Made to Play sub-label Play It Down is effortlessly addictive and employs a sample guaranteed to make anyone smile.

Sampling one of Moodymann’s inspirational impromptu DJ set speeches and employing a simple, thumping bassline, it narrates the more intimate moments of being out in a club: The DJ crooning about what tracks they’re going to play next, yelled banter from the audience, scratched records, the pause where the same record gets played twice over because “we’re still on this muthafuckin record”, and the steadfast refusal to stop playing when the club owners start yelling at you.

Limited to 200 vinyl copies, it’s a great homage to the atmosphere and feeling of intimate house music when it feels like something’s going on that’s bigger and more powerful than the sum of everyone in the club.

Hold You Tight

Seclusive Berlin producer Daniel Steinberg is about to unleash his debut album “Shut Up” late January on Front Room Recordings (sublabel to Made To Play, both run by Jesse Rose) but he’s no newcomer seeing as he’s spent the last 15 years honing his trade and is well regarded amongst the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Luciano, Richie Hawtin and Claude Von Stroke. On the track “Hold Tight” we get a 6 minute microcosmos of the productions offered on his debut album: warm, soulful and with a tropical feel that will have you strutting around on the dancefloor in mere seconds.

T.E.E.D – Garden (Jesse Rose Remix Radio Edit)

T.E.E.D is Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. The track “Garden” is a track from their recent EP on Greco Roman and features guest vocals from Luisa of Lulu and The Lampshades. Jesse Rose liked the track so much he decided to remix it and release it on his new imprint Play it Down.

You Know It

‘Sleep Less’… if there is one person who knows about lack of sleep it would have to be Jesse Rose. Take the month of March 2010. Jesse went from Berlin to Tokyo to play at Womb, back to Berlin for a day in the studio before heading off to Paris for his Made to Play residency at La Regine, then direct to London to sign a new act, back to Berlin for ten hours and it was off to L.A and the start of his U.S Tour, which ended in three gigs at WMC (Made to Play vs Rekids & Get Physical Beach party being the highlights), before jetting off to Mexico to play an extended set at Santanera in Play Del Carmen and then an after hours on the beach before jetting back to Berlin to finish a remix for Sound Pellegrino. Feel tired just reading this? Then try actually doing it!

The ‘Sleep Less’ series is all about showcasing what Made to Play stands for, tracks to put in your box and play, as well as showcasing the house sound you can expect to hear when Jesse’s playing at a club or festival. Heading the first part of the series; ‘Night One’ starts ‘with Non-Stop Dub’ which nods to classic Chicago house, with a sprinkle of Jesse’s trademark cheekiness, with ‘(Where Were You) Last Night’ going back and moving that chunky Dubsided sound forward. ‘(Where Were You) Last Night’ has already been picked up by Radio Slave for a forthcoming remix.

The first instalment of the ‘Sleep Less’ series drop this Monday and Jesse Rose gave us a re-edit of “You Know It” to promote it.
