“I met Octavian at a party in London. In a dark warehouse under an over pass . Some friend said hey man meet this young artists he is going to be really big. I said “ok” took a photo and then thought ok I’ll never see this kid again.. but in fact over the next 6 months I kept hearing his name and seeing him on great songs and I tried to stay in touch even tho he had another 12 phone numbers since we met. Finally he was stuck in LA for a while where he wasn’t as known as London and it was easy to pull up on him, he couldn’t escape. After a few weeks we nailed this song and I’m glad it got to finally see the light of day. Big up to Jim-E Stack for producing this with me.?” – Diplo

L.A bassfilled club music label Body High has had an immense year with a string of excellent released this year including mystery producer DJ Funeral and legendary New Jersey house producer Todd Edwards.

The free compilation includes bumping tracks from the whole Body High crew and friends, with offerings from DJ Sliink, Jerome LOL, Jim-E Stack, Myrryrs, Pipes and a collaboration between label co-founder Samo Sound Boy and Floyd Campbell.

Montreal / LA duo LOL Boys and Sinjin Hawke sign up for an extremely necessary re-edit of 702’s r&b hit “Steelo” (which, as far as I can figure out, is talking about style).

They clear out plenty of space for the vocals, which waste no time stating “I’m gonna break it down”. Things continue building up from there until Missy Elliot is comparing herself to Michael Jackson behind some crackling high hat acid house drums and shuffling snare rolls. It feels like the audio embodiment of their Montreal based Boomclap party, which we’ve already raved about here before.

Speaking of LOL Boys, their new “LDR” EP is out now and is seriously fantastic stuff. Remixes by NGUZNGUZU, Jim-E Stack, Marcus Price and others, but the original productions are so strong that they almost make all the other takes on them unnecessary.

Jim-E Stack makes the audio equivalent of falling down the stairs with a new freebie combining reloading gun clacks and some bubbling stuttering. Put simply: Modern dance music that’s sure to get people percolating.

New Orleans native Jim-E Stack is young, talented, and always strapped. Okay, the last one is just a guess, but this recently compiled Fader Mix carries so much metaphorical firepower that it might as well be true. This mix has new tracks by LOL Boys, NGUZUNGUZU, Dubbel Dutch, and a surprisingly good unknown edit of a Wacka Flocka track, early limewire internet style. It’s a happy surprise that in 2011 there can still be such thing as an “unknown edit”.
