Brega-Cover

Today marks the release of Man Recordings boss Daniel Haaksman’s compilation CD “Daniel Haaksman Presents Tecno Brega” (tecno brega is Portuguese for “cheesy techno”), the sound originates from the Amazon region and it’s basically a simple preset drum pattern combined with mid to high range synth lines being pushed to the max.

The compilation gives the listener a thorough overview of what is happening to the Tecno Brega movement in Brazil and the rest of the world at the moment. The compilation includes a wide range of the most established along with cutting edge producers and artists working within the genre such as João Brasil, Banda Uó, DJ Cremoso, Gaby Amarantos etc.

Here’s a 15 minute megamix from Daniel Haaksman which was made to present the compilation.

Also, if you’re in Berlin tonight you should check out the releaseparty with performances from Banda Uó, Waldo Squash, João Brasil and Felipe Cordeiro taking place Haus Der Kulturen Welt.

João Brasil is considered the mash-up king of Rio, his debut single on Man Recordings, “L.O.V.E. Banana” that features vocals from Lovefoxxx (of CSS fame) just dropped and it’s a sure fire summer smash. In preparation for the release he decided to give out the lambada styled track “Tropical Bomb”.

“João wrote “Tropical Bomb” last winter when preparing tracks for his debut EP on Man Recordings. then J-Lo came out with “On The Floor” and we decided to not release “tropical bomb”, as she kind of stole the show using the “lambada” melody. When writing about the “lambada” story we decided to give away “Tropical Bomb” as a free track to promote the EP.”

Brazilian dj extraordinaire Chernobyl has been a pioneer in the Brazilian music scene since 1995, he’s one of the main pushers of baile funk, he discovered and signed Bonde Do Role and then produced their album. As a dj he has a knack for flawlessly mixing electro, Miami bass, 80s, oldschool baile funk, Baltimore club, afro, kuduro, or rock n roll, bending it all into his neo Baile funk style.

He teams up with growing German label Exploited Records (run by prolific dj Shir Khan) for the release of the “Empina A Pipa” EP (also available at Beatport) which will be out digitally today and then on vinyl in the middle of January. The EP features a wide variety of remixes from all over the world including fellow Porto Allegre resident Edu K, Berlin big shot Samim, Bavarian bounce maestro Dex (from Malente & Dex fame), Amazonian tribal guru Joao Brasil, Mexican neo-cumbia darling Toy Selectah and Lisboa newcomer Beat Laden. Not to mention the marvellous Finnish duo and remixers du jour Renaissance Man. They bring us a remix of the b-side track “Balanca” filled with Finnish sisu mixed in with tropical beats and chopped up Portuguese rap, it’s gritty and powerful with enough horns to make heads turn on the dancefloor.

Daniel Haaksman is just about to release his new “Gostoso” remix EP, and it’s available on both vinyl and digital. It contains remixes from Edu K, DJ Rob 3, Joao Brasil and Schlachthofbronx. We’ve been enjoying all the tracks he’s been feeding us this year and this release doesn’t let us down. To promote the release he is sending out a previously unreleased dub remix of his track “Pobum Coco” from our Finnish boys in Sharkslayer.
