TEED

TEED – Garden (Joe Goddard, Hackman & Donaeo Remixes)

This stunning batch of remixes for Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs’ latest single “Garden”, (which actually got the re-rub treatment back on Play It Down almost a year ago now) brings together two big names who put a unique touch on things.

Donaeo drags the track through a metal processing plant on the edge of town, running a buzzsaw in between the vocals and dropping a big UK Funky bassline that jars the original’s placated duet.

Hackman goes the opposite route, and provides a subdued mix of the original track that rolls along on some atmospheric bleeps & twinkling, letting the vocals breathe and take control of the ambience of the track, especially when they’re twisted into a foreign mantra completely different from the original halfway through.

Finally, Joe Goddard is still riding high on the same magic dust that spawned the recent “Gabriel” track on Greco Roman, with a remix that throws on some wobbly synth actions that leave the vocals largely untouched but bend and warp the original melody like a piece of vinyl that’s been locked in a sauna overnight and then played out the next morning. Fortunately, it sounds much better than actually doing that in real life would.

Joe Goddard – Gabriel

Joe Goddard (of The 2 Bears and Hot Chip fame, with the aid of London singstress Valentina) brings forth a monster of a house track with vocals that are instantly embedded in your memory which you’ll find yourself singing out loud everywhere you are. “Gabriel” is out now on DFA and Greco-Roman.

The 2 Bears – Red Bull Music Academy Radio Mix

Start your week off right with this Red Bull Music Academy exclusive, new music from Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard and Ministry of Sound radio host Raf Rundell, who occasionally dress up as bears and make joyfully oddball house music under The 2 Bears moniker.

Falling under the weird multicolored umbrella of the Greco-Roman Soundsystem collective, they’re partially named as a tribute to the gay contingent of early disco and house pioneers who paved the way for a movement that others would eventually mutate into “brostep” thirty years later, and partially as a tribute to those big furry things that run around in the woods and terrorize cottagers.

In a recent interview with Dazed Digital, Rundell talks a bit about the oft-made connection between their name and gay subculture by saying “we have huge respect for the pioneers of House music and nightclubbing – some of them were gay. We have some gay friends but I think most people probably do.”

Redundant maybe, but there’s something humble about the statement that makes this batch of tunes from Hessle heavyweight Joe, Adele, Toddla T and Guilty Simpson that makes it feel all the more authentic.

The 2 Bears

The 2 Bears consists of Raf Daddy (dj in Greco-Roman Soundsystem) and Joe Goddard (from Hot Chip) and they’re about to follow up the success of their debut EP with the release of the “Curious Nature EP” (out today on Southern Fried Records). The duo is influenced by Derrick Carter, Carl Craig and Larry Heard, and the pair updates their influences with a 21 century take on house to give us a somewhat moody yet banging EP that will surely get numerous spins here at Discobelle HQ. Follow the bears!
