Jason Forrest – Raunchy (Video) + Raunchy – Jokers Of The Scene Remix

Jason Forrest’s new video for “Raunchy” is first and foremost a warning to everyone that they should not make eye contact or try to engage that guy at the mall who’s wearing a sweater with horses on it and rocking a mane of shoulder length hair while browsing for muskets. It’ll just end badly.

But more than that, it’s a stompingly good return from Forrest, who curates North American dance music juggernaut label Nightshifters. The track begins as a laid back clap-along affair, things slowly descend into a dimension of thrashing guitar solos and screaming horns that gradually becomes hotter and hotter until you notice that your shoes have melted onto the floor in a sticky multicolor mess.

Accompanying it is a rework from Canadian contingent Jokers of The Scene, who hone their tact of distilling their remixes to one gigantic eight minute “just-as-the-sun’s-coming-up” moment of ecstatic joy, before veering back off into the darkness. It’s a well paced track that would sound perfect being played somewhere where you can see the stars above you.

Grab “Raunchy” on iTunes now and get some extra goodies, and simultaneously be on the look out for Jason’s new album “The Everything” – Coming April 15th, 2011 on Staatsakt records.

FUNERALS – AITU (Jokers of the Scene Dub)

Don’t let the gingerbread version of Jokers of The Scene above fool you, this track is channeling some weird magick vibes from Columbus, Ohio FUNERALS. This dub takes things underground deep enough to be burrowed into the earth’s core, and then slowly starts to rise to the surface again for a blindingly big finish.

Tenderoni

Kele Okereke is the frontman of Bloc Party and he just released his first solo album “The Boxer” (production duties coming from Hudson Mohawke and XXXChange) last week which was preceeded by the single “Tenderoni” in early June.

We have the remix from Canadian power duo Jokers Of The Scene (btw, happy belated Canada day you guys!) which doesn’t go as hard as their previous tracks but keeps the focus on a more minimal and melodic sound with fistpumping breaks – although they still keep it dark and moody – showing that they’ve spent alot of time in Berlin.

Happy Please

Brandon Sek disbanded his Curb Crawlers blog (one of our favorite blogs period), but don’t worry since he won’t be leaving us in the cold. He already started up Happy Please (together with the wonderful Flora Wong of Grindin’, Nobody Cares About Kitsuné and Dazed Magazine fame). To kick things off on the new domain he provides us with this techy stormer of a mixtape from the boys in Canadian duo Jokers Of The Scene.

Bright Black Magick

Two of our favorite production/dj duos, Acid Girls & Jokers Of The Scene, got together for one mighty fine mix where Jokers Of The Scene mixed the Acid Girls part and the Acid Girls boys returned the favor. They’re about to embark on a joint tour and this mix was done to promote what has the makings to be one whirlwind of a ride.

Live From the Celestial Megaclub Green Room

Greg from Acid Girls passed this onto to all of us Grindin peeps yesterday, it’s not really the style we’ve grown accustomed to from Acid Girls but it’s the perfect workday mix right now. Acid Girls will be going on tour soon together with Jokers Of The Scene, they’re also heading over to Europe in January + you shouldn’t forget to check out their recently released single “The Numbers Song” (we posted it here).

Acid Girls – The Numbers Song

Big release coming up on IHEARTCOMIX from the fantastic LA duo Acid Girls, Greg and Jamie have been working hard for a couple of years now and they’ll reap their benefits with the release of “The Numbers Song/Lightworks” (the EP is released digitally on August 18th and on vinyl September 1st. It comes backed with remixes courtesy of Canadian powerhouse Jokers Of The Scene and Dave P & Adam Sparkles). The original track itself is a hypnotic, stompy and techy beast of a dance track that has been a staple in our dj sets for some time now, always ensuing people to collectively lose their shit.
