Joy Orbison X TTT X Hinge Finger

London production wizard Joy Orbison is about to co-launch a new record label Hinge Finger together with designer Will Bankhead.

To further add to this exciting piece of news, Joy Orbison and Will Bankhead have compiled an hour long formidable mix for our downloading and listening pleasure, the mix doesn’t have an official tracklist but if you’re into the UK scene then this could very well be the mix of the year. Kavsrave vs. Joy O – Untightled

Even though we’re all gutted that newly renamed Joy O recently dropped the “rbison” from his name, life must go on. Whether it was for fear of copyright infringement or not (this Doldrums Records tweet seems to suggest that the name change wasn’t his choice), I’m all for whatever alias Peter O’Grady wants to go by if his new tracks keep sounding this good.

“Untightled” begins sounding very precise and controlled, piano sweeps and percussion clicking like Joy O and cohort Kavsrave are holding something back. But after everything quiets down suddenly for some incomprehensible dancehall vocals, the track grows more and more unhinged, branching out into different driections and then surging back together.

It’s tactful and uninhibited at the same time, and clocking in at just over five minutes it feels like it could’ve gone for another ten without exhausting the vibe. Regardless, Joy O or Joy Orbison, we’ll take what we can get.

Thought we’d bring you some heat today. Legendary house producer Todd Edwards did the single “I Might Be” for Scion A/V and then it was passed on to a bunch of up and coming producers. UK newcomer Joy Orbison did this splendid chilled out and hypnotic take on the track.
